Südosteuropas, besteht aus zwei historischen Regionen
und bildet heute eine Brücke zwischen Orient und Okzident.
Es blickt auf eine lange, bewegte Geschichte zurück,
deren Spuren ein Symbol für das Zusammenleben der
verschiedensten kulturellen, ethnischen und religiösen
Gemeinschaften sind.
Die Landeshauptstadt Sarajevo ist ein pulsierendes Kulturzentrum und wird aufgrund ihrer nur wenige Schritte
voneinander entfernten Gotteshäuser der katholischen,
orthodoxen, islamischen und jüdischen Religion auch
als europäisches Jerusalem bezeichnet. Die bergige
Region rund um Sarajevo wurde durch die Olympischen
Winterspiele 1984 weltweit bekannt. Im Sommer lädt sie
zu ausgedehnten Wander- oder Mountainbiketouren ein.
Das gesamte Land wird von zahlreichen Flüssen durchzogen, die atemberaubende Schluchten in die karstigen
Hochebenen geschnitten haben. Rauschende Wasserfälle und kristallklare Seen säumen den Weg. Bei einer
geführten Schluchtenwanderungen oder abenteuerlichen Raftingtour erhält der Besucher außergewöhnliche
Einblicke in die beindruckende Flusslandschaft.

Bosnia-Herzegovina, the heart-shaped country in the
centre of South-Eastern Europe, is made up of two
historic regions and today forms a bridge between East
and West. It has a long, turbulent history, the traces of
which are a symbol for the coexistence of very different
cultural, ethnic and religious communities.
The capital Sarajevo is a pulsating cultural centre and
has been described as a European Jerusalem because
of the presence of houses of worship from the Catholic,
Orthodox, Islamic and Jewish faiths, all in close proximity to each other. The mountains around Sarajevo
became famous throughout the world as a result of the
Winter Olympics being held here in 1984. In summertime,
the area is perfect for long hikes or mountain biking.
The entire country is criss-crossed by many rivers, which
have cut breathtaking canyons in the limestone plateaus.
Roaring waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes dot the trajectories of these rivers. Visitors can get fantastic views of this
amazing river landscape on guided walks along the canyons
or on adventure-filled rafting trips.

15 Heilbäder des Landes, deren wohltuende Thermalquellen bereits von den Römern genutzt wurden.

spas in the country, whose beneficial hot springs were even

der Alten Brücke in Mostar (Juli), dem eindrucksvollen Kulturfestival Bascarsijske Noci im berühmten Handwerkerviertel (Juli) oder dem Filmfestival (August) in Sarajevo und
nicht zuletzt dem Internationalen Jugendfestival Mladifest
in Medjugorje (August) hat man die Gelegenheit Land und
Leute intensiv kennenzulernen.
Tourists can really get to know Bosnia-Herzegovina and its
people during the country‘s many cultural and sporting festivals, including the artists‘ festival in Pocitelj held in June,
the International Una Regatta in Bihac held in July, diving off
the Old Bridge in Mostar in July, the impressive Bascarsijske Noci (The Nights of Bascarsija) cultural festival held in
Sarajevo‘s famous artisan quarter in July, the Sarajevo Film
Festival held in August and, last but not least, the Medjugorje International Youth Festival or „Mladifest“ held in August.

Golubac. Der beeindruckende Nationalpark Djerdap mit
seiner gleichnamigen über 100 Kilometer langen Schlucht,
die auch als „Eisernes Tor“ bezeichnet wird, zählt zu
den imposantesten Taldurchbrüchen Europas. Eine der
beliebtesten Fahrradstrecken Europas, der Donauradweg,
führt auf einer stattlichen Länge von 665 Kilometern durch
Serbien und eröffnet unvergessliche Eindrücke auf eine
noch weitgehend unbekannte Donauregion.
Von einzigartiger Schönheit sind die unzähligen, teilweise einsam gelegenen Klöster, mit ihren überraschend

Serbia is a diverse holiday destination steeped in culture, with breathtaking landscapes of outstanding natural beauty protected in five national parks. The country‘s
imposing mountains are criss-crossed by many streams
and rivers, the trajectories of which are dotted with
crystal-clear lakes.
Europe‘s second-longest river, the Danube, is of great
importance to Serbia. In addition to the lively, vibrant
capital city of Belgrade, the country‘s second biggest
city, Novi Sad, is also located on its banks. In Novi Sad,
numerous festivals are held all year round, including in
the well preserved medieval fortress of Golubac. The
impressive Djerdap National Park with its 100 km long
canyon of the same name, also known as the „Iron
Gate“, is one of Europe‘s most formidable valley passes.
One of Europe‘s most popular cycling trails, the Danube
Cycle Route, passes through Serbia on its amazing 665
km journey, opening up unforgettable vistas of an as yet
largely unknown part of the Danube region.
Unique beautiful are the countless, often isolated,
monasteries with surprisingly colourful paintings inside.

There are over 1,000 cold and hot mineral springs in
Serbia, as well as more than 50 thermal baths, some of
which were known even to the ancient Romans. These
