“Inside/Out helps with experimentation
because it is an environment that has
no pressure to create, but provides all
the tools to do so. It functions as a
choreographic laboratory where one can
put an idea on stage and see its results
without risking their reputation as a
choreographer. This freedom, coupled with
the availability of some of the best dancers
in the world is, to me, the definition of
experimentation at the highest level.”

“There is nothing in medicine to
counteract the inexorable pace
of the disease (Parkinson’s). But
dance does offer hope that
structured movement, accompanied
by music, is in some real sense
restorative. Once we enter the

who participate in the dance, we
forget the travail engendered by
the disease.”

“My first show was maybe the most
memorable part of my first year at
Hubbard Street. I was filling in last

The way that all of the other dancers

“HS2, as an entity, finds its strength
in the diversity of its dancers, and
though skilled enough to work and move
together as one machine, each Company
member possesses his or her own unique
strengths. In the dance world, we are
often taught to conform to a certain
style, but HS2 has shown me that there
are many ways to be talented, passionate
and powerful on stage (and off), and
therein lies the magic of
this Company.”

“Creating for Harold and the Purple
Crayon presented an excellent challenge.
We needed to make a dance that would
retain the quality and integrity of a
Hubbard Street Dance performance as well
as the attention of a 7-year-old. It was
a wonderful task to delve into the magic
of the iconic book and the imagination of
a child’s mind.”

“My perspective on movement has
been completely re-informed by
my experiences in the Summer
Intensive and HS2. Being around
the caliber of artists at Hubbard
Street, my choreography has
been pushed to seek different
and exciting possibilities, allowing
me to further express my ideas
in a more sincere and lucid way.”
