Învierea lui HRISTOS , Învierea noastră
Praznicul Învierii Domnului Nostru Iisus Hristos străluceşte, în viaţa
spirituală a creştinului ortodox, mai puternic decât celelalte praznice împărăteşti.
El revarsă, în sufletele credincioase, lumină dumnezeiască şi nemuritoare care
aduce mângâiere şi alinare inimilor întristate şi cheamă la pace şi fericire pe
creştinul din toate timpurile.
Trăim cel mai important eveniment al
anului bisericesc – Învierea Domnului nostru
Iisus Hristos – sărbătoare a sărbătorilor și
prilej de aleasă bucurie pentru întreaga lume
creștinească.
Viața creștină este un mers spre Înviere.
Prin Patimile Mântuitorului descoperim pe
Dumnezeu Care Se jertfește pentru lumea
căzută, o scoate din iad și îi dă șansa
mântuirii.
Rezumatul învățăturii noastre despre
Înviere probabil este concentrat într-o
rugăciune din cadrul Sf. Liturghii: “În
mormânt cu trupul, în iad cu sufletul, ca un
Dumnezeu, în rai cu tâlharul și pe scaun
împreună cu Tatăl și cu Duhul ai fost
Hristoase, toate umplându-le Cel ce ești
necuprins”.
Iisus Hristos, Om și Dumnezeu adevărat,
se așează pe cruce pentru a o sfinți, se așează,
apoi se ridică, Înviind. Așa ar trebui să fie și
viața noastră, an de an, până la ultima clipă a
vieții pământești. Să omorâm omul vechi din
noi, plin de păcate și de vicii, pentru a învia
alții, mai îmbunătățiți în toată virtutea.
Legea bisericească se concentrează în una,
în porunca Dragostei, căci Dumnezeu este
iubire, iar cel care nu iubește n-a cunoscut pe
Dumnezeu (I Ioan 4, 8). Astfel, să fie vrednică
toată suflarea creștinească a mărturisi
împreună cu apostolul: “Noi am cunoscut şi
am crezut iubirea, pe care Dumnezeu o are
către noi. Dumnezeu este iubire şi cel ce
rămâne în iubire rămâne în Dumnezeu şi
Dumnezeu rămâne întru el.” (I Ioan 4, 16).
Lumina pe care acest praznic al
praznicelor o revarsă în sufletul creştinului
izvorăşte din marea minune a Învierii
Mântuitorului Hristos din morţi; minune mai
presus de fire şi gândire, că nimeni nu a auzit
vreodată ca un mort să iasă din mormânt, fără
a strica peceţile gropii şi fără a răsturna piatra
de pe uşa mormântului.
Această lumină izvorăşte din biruinţa lui
Iisus Hristos asupra încuietorilor iadului care
ţinea pe strămoşii noştri ferecaţi, având

stăpânire deplină peste ei; ea izvorăşte din
bucuria deschiderii uşilor raiului care fuseseră
închise odată cu păcatul săvârşit de către
primii oameni în grădina Edenului, care era
păzită de un înger cu sabie de foc, ca nimeni
să nu mai poată intra acolo; ea mai străluceşte
şi din faptul că această preaslăvită minune este
chezăşia învierii noastre. Fiecare creştin are
convingerea profundă că şi el va învia la o
viaţă veşnică, unde va trăi în comuniune
deplină cu Hristos, cu Maica Domnului, cu
îngerii şi cu toţi sfinţii şi drepţii bineplăcuţi lui
Dumnezeu.
Credinţa în viaţa veşnică şi în înviere naşte
în sufletul creştinului puteri nelimitate, îl fac
încrezător în viaţă, în progres, în bine şi în
fericire. Învierea lui Hristos îl convinge că nu
moartea, ci viaţa pune ultima pecete pe
întreaga existenţă, după cum mărturiseşte şi
Sfântul Apostol Pavel în întâia Epistolă către
corinteni: “Dacă Hristos n-a înviat, zadarnică
este atunci propovăduirea noastră, zadarnică
şi credinţa voastră!’’(I Corinteni 15,14).
“Căutaţi pe Iisus Nazarineanul, cel
răstignit? A inviat!” (Marcu XVI, 6)

Mântuitorului este întărită de mărturii
puternice şi convingătoare ale martorilor
oculari şi transmise nouă de Sfintele
Evanghelii. Ele stau de-a pururea ca nişte

făclii, povăţuind sufletele credincioşilor pe
calea vieţii sfinţeniei şi a nemuririi, arătând că
Hristos a înviat cu adevărat din morţi, aşa cum
a spus mai înainte.
Acum toate s-au umplut de lumină
Nu există îndoială că arătările au fost mult
mai numeroase, precum mult mai vastă a fost
învăţătura Sa şi de necuprins faptele Sale, dar
sfintele evanghelii nu le menţionează pe toate.
Mărturia lor nu se poate tăgădui, pentru că
au fost văzute în repetate rânduri. Ele umplu
sufletul creştinului de optimism. Oare credinţa
în El, în învierea Lui nu este deja şi un început
al învierii noastre, ca şi nădejdea, dragostea
curată în nevoinţa şi jertfa, în lupta cu
răstignirea patimilor, a răului din noi? Orice
biruire a unui păcat, a răutăţii, a poftei, trufiei,
slavei deşarte a eului înseamnă o biruire şi
dezlegare din legăturile păcatului şi a morţii şi
o simţire a nemuririi. Şi orice rugăciune, gând
curat, faptă bună sunt semne ale puterii vieţii
de veci. Şi orice mărturisire a Celui înviat este
un semn al credinţei, al participării la viaţă
spre mai multă conştiinţă, lumină, adevăr,
pace, bucurie. Hristos a Înviat!
Fie ca sfânta sărbătoare a Învierii
Domnului să ne găsească în comuniune, să ne
aducă în suflete Iertarea, Bucuria, Încrederea,
Lumina, Iubirea și veșnica Speranță!

THE LITURGY AS PARTICIPATION
TO THE RESURRECTION
The Divine Liturgy is the most essential way to experience the Resurrection. Though
established on Holy Thursday, the Liturgy became the most eminent Sunday service of the
Church. Thus, it has turned into the supreme and uninterrupted witness about the Resurrection
of Christ; also known Himself as “the great and most holy Pascha”.
In Liturgy we review the Sacrifice of the Great Hierarch, who was not killed on the Cross,
but voluntarily offered Himself as sacrifice in order to pass us from the death of this life to
eternal life.
At the feast of Pascha, the entire Church is renewed by some real elements: the bread and
the wine. In Liturgy they are changed into a mystical Body and Blood of the Lord. As we
consume them, we become one with Him. Thus they become food for eternal life. The bread,
named by Romanians “Paşti” is consumed as a renewal of the Resurrection. It is a reminder
of the heavenly mana sent down from heaven. In Liturgy, Christ – the Lamb of God
actualizes the sacrifice intended for our ransom, but also our great passing (Pascha) “from
death to life from earth to heaven”.
Many Orthodox Christians commune on the feast of Pascha, becoming one with the body
and blood of Christ. Hence, our birth to the future life can be understood as a natural birth in
which the Head is followed by the Body. The Church is often named the mystical body of
Christ.
In the Liturgy, not only do “we proclaim the death” (I Cor. 11,26) but we also participate
to the great passing of Christ – the Eternal Pascha (Hebr. 10,10). The disciples have
recognized Him as He broke the bread, when he was vanished. In Liturgy, we also recognize
the Risen Christ, who not only died for us, but also stands at the right of God and mediates for
us (Rom. 8,34). Of Him, says the Priest in a final prayer of the Liturgy, may “we partake
most truly in the unending day of His Kingdom”.

R.O.E.A. SUMMER CAMPS
The camping programs offered by The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America are an extension
of the Church's sacred ministry to her young people. For over 50 years, these camps have given children
from across North America an opportunity to practice and learn about their Faith while spending
recreational time with other young Orthodox Christians. Students are given both the knowledge and
encouragement necessary to build a strong spiritual life which will be of great benefit to them
throughout the years to come.
The camps programs (at “Vatra Romaneasca” Great Lakes, MI) currently scheduled are:

SAINT ALEXIS TOTH OF MINNEAPOLIS
Saint Alexis Toth of Minneapolis (or Alexis of Wilkes-Barre, PA; March 18, 1853, Kobylnice - May 7,
1909) was a Russian Orthodox church leader in the Midwestern United States
who, having resigned his position as a Byzantine Catholic priest in the
Ruthenian Catholic Church, became responsible for the conversions of
approximately 20,000 Eastern Rite Catholics to the Russian Orthodox Church,
which contributed to the growth of Eastern Orthodoxy in the US and the
eventual establishment of the Orthodox Church in America. He was
canonized by the Orthodox Church on May 29 1994.
His holy relics now rest at St. Tikhons Monastery in South Canaan,
Pennsylvania where the faithful may come to venerate them and to entreat
St ALEXIS' intercessions on their behalf.
Early life. Alexis Georgievich Toth was born on March 14, 1853, near Prešov in Zepes county of
Slovakia (then a part of the Austrian Empire). Toth married Rosalie Mihaluk on April 18, 1878, and was
ordained to the Priesthood in 1878 by Bishop Nicholas Toth, the Greek Catholic Bishop of Prešov.
Following the death of his wife and child a few years later, he served in local parishes, as diocesan
chancellor, and as professor and director at the Greek Catholic seminary of Prešov. In 1889, he arrived
in the U.S., and he was holding services at St. Mary's Greek Catholic Church in Minneapolis,
Minnesota – today St. Mary’s OCA Cathedral, NE Minneapolis.
Conflict with Bishop John Ireland - As an Eastern Rite Catholic, Toth honored the custom of paying a
visit to the local Latin Church Catholic bishop in his area, since there was no Eastern Rite Catholic bishop
serving in the United States at that time. The ordinary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul
and Minneapolis was John Ireland, who had been attempting to "Americanize" German and other
Catholic immigrants, and was hostile to ethnic parishes such the one in which Toth served.
Ireland refused to give Toth permission to serve as a priest in Minneapolis, and furthermore ordered
his parishes and priests not to have anything to do with the Ruthenian Catholic priest or his
parishioners. Although Toth sent letters to his bishop in Slovakia, detailing his experience and
requesting specific instructions, he reportedly never received a reply.
From Rome to Russian Orthodoxy - Having heard nothing from his own bishop, he and other
Eastern Rite Catholic priests who had shared similar experiences began to cast about for a solution to
their dilemma. In December 1890, they met Orthodox Bishop Vladimir Sokolovsky of San Francisco
followed, culminating in Toth's decision to formally enter the Russian Orthodox Church in March 1892.
Toth was accompanied by 361 fellow Eastern Rite Catholics; thousands more would follow in the years
to come, largely due to his own efforts to evangelize them toward this move.
Like Josiah, “he behaved himself uprightly in the conversion of his people” (Sir 49:2). He was
instrumental in the formation or return of seventeen parishes, planting a vineyard of Christ in America,
and increasing its fruitful yield many times over. By 1909, the time of his blessed repose, many
thousands of Carpatho-Russian and Galician Uniates had returned to Orthodoxy. Any future growth or
success may truly be regarded as the result of Father Toth’s apostolic labors.
