From our kitchen to yours!
Happy summer to all of you! I
hope you are taking some
time to enjoy the warmth and
sunshine of summer in Canada, since it seems our summers go by so quickly.
I have enjoyed a very busy but
wonderful summer. As you
know, I was home in Germany
visiting my family during the
month of June, and on my
return brought back my 15
year old niece with me for a
month long vacation.
It’s been a great opportunity
for me to share with her the
beauty of nature in our region
of this great country.
vour of freshly picked produce, straight from the garden
to your table.
Not only have we been visiting throughout the region, but
we also ventured up north to
North Bay, Temagami and
took a trip on the Polar Bear
Express, departing from
Cochrane and travelling to
Moosonee and Moose Factory, located on the edge of
the Arctic. It was certainly
something different for my
niece, who is used to city life
in Hamburg, Germany.
I always try to capture as
much of that flavour as I can,
for as long as I can. While
our growing season is relatively short, making preserves
and jam is a great way to
keep those tastes top-of-mind
year round.
While up north I made sure to
pick up some wild blueberries
that were in peak season
which I plan to use for making
homemade jam.
Now that summer is here we
can celebrate the bounty of
the Ontario harvest — fruits
and vegetables abound.
There’s nothing more delicious than enjoying the fla-
This edition we offer some
more great kitchen toys for
your consideration, along with
our high quality line of food
processors, which will help
you to whip up some homemade preserves quickly and
efficiently. We also would like
to introduce to you the new
line of Denby stoneware:
Caramel & Caramel Stripes.

We’re Renovating…….
Starting in mid-August we’re going to begin renovating our storefront as part of the Town
of Orangeville’s heritage façade improvement program. At the same time, we’re planning
to make some improvements to the layout of the store interior, so be sure to watch for the
changes. All things being equal, the work should be completed towards the end of September.
In the meantime, you can take advantage of our “mess”. We’ll need to clear out product in
order to make room for the work crews.
Be sure to drop by and check out the savings!

Did you know….
...Some of the basic requirements
for jam making include:
•
Large, heavy-bottomed
saucepan
•
Long-handled whisk
•
Clean canning jars & lids
(jars & lid screw bands are
reusable — the lid discs are
NOT)
•
Metal or silicone funnel
•
1/2 cup measuring cup
•
Jar lifter (rounded, rubbercoated tongs)
...Jams and preserves are similar in
that they are both a cooked
combination of fruit and sugar (and
sometimes pectin). The difference
being that preserves still contain
chunks of fruit, whereas jam is more
like a fruit puree.

Thermo Whisk by CuisiPro
This unique flat whisk is designed for temperature-sensitive
recipes. Continual readings as you whisk or stir are important when caramelizing or melting ingredients, so you’ll
know the exact moment when to remove the pan from the
heat. This two-in-one tool is also good for custards, chocolate and ice cream bases, a basic tool for every kitchen.
Hand wash only. Battery included.
...A food sieve is a metal conical
device with an extremely fine mesh,
used for pureeing or straining. The
mesh is so fine that a spoon or
pestle must be used to press the
food through it.
...A food mill is a kitchen utensil
best described as a mechanical
sieve. It has a hand-turned paddle
that forces food through a strainer
plate at the bottom, thereby
removing skin, seeds and fibre.

PRODUCT OF THE MONTH — Food processors
Food processors were introduced to North America by the French in the 1970s and have revolutionized food preparation. A
basic food processor consists of a plastic work bowl sitting on a motorized drive shaft. The cover of the bowl has a feed
tube through which you add food, allowing you to easily chop, dice, slice, shred, grind and puree most foods. Most food
processors come with a standard set of attachments including an S-shaped chopping blade and several discs for slicing and
shredding. Additional attachments are also available for specialized applications.
From the Kitchen to the Table carries a full-line of high quality food processors to suit your specific requirements.
