TheWhere-Wolves:
TreasureHunt Treasure Hunt, once again lived up to the legend surrounding its name. There were six schools participating in the hunt, with Trio coming out victorious at the end. Each team had one “where-‐wolf” with them, being their guide, and six clue cards, eventually resulting in almost one and a half hours of non-‐stop sprinting all over the campus! The mind boggling clues led to the teams going to places like the primary playground and even the bathrooms! One particular clue, ‘Break a leg’, had a variety of interpretations ranging from (a non-‐existent) chapel, to the Medical Center and finally, the actual answer, the Drama room. The teams were taken for a ride all around the campus, as they were seeking the hidden treasures, which were certificates for the winners. The event was definitely a success as the participating schools were kept entertained while they attempted to decode the riddles given to them. Though, by the end of the event, everyone involved in the event had to stop for a moment to catch their breath, it’s safe to say that it was one of the most cherished events of the first day at VIVUMtwelve. Spotlight: Double Trouble
“Double double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and cauldron bubble.” The iconic words from Shakespeare’s Macbeth have inspired dramatists all over the world. And today’s event Double Trouble showcased some of the most talented dramatists we have ever seen. This event tested the creativity, innovation, and the power of expression of all participants, which was definitely not an easy task. The stimuli given to the participants were the most intriguing, starting from “Shakespeare meets Marlin Brando” to “Little Red Riding Hood is evil.” Nobody was oblivious to the nerve wrecking suspense in the silent room, as the participants prepared for a five minute play in a matter of fifteen minutes. This event ended up being one of the most challenging events of the first day. The winner of the event had to depict Shakespeare meeting the Godfather (or in other words, Marlin Brando). They did a fabulous job, putting both Shakespeare and Brando in a car swapping stories, ending on a humorous note with Shakespeare calling Brando ‘evil’. The event saw some breathtaking and exceptional performances! When the curtain closed on the event, and all was over, we were left with many emotions running thick in our veins and a brillant smile on our faces, due to the sheer enjoyment edured from such a notable and compelling show put forth by the Spotlight TheQuill:
Telephonic Pictionary
Nestled up on the second floor of our academic block, this Language-‐and-‐Literature event was a modest affair; however, what transpired in room 301 was fu, thrilling, and bizarre in equal measures. “Telephonic Pictionary” was, as the head of department described it, a mix of. There were six teams of four students, each in grades 10 to 12, present: the teams were from NPS Rajajinagar, NPS HSR, NPS Jayanagar, NPS Koramangala, Trio World School, NAFL, and CMRNGC School. One person from each team had to take a piece of paper with a statement on it – an everyday statement, if you consider “Peter Pan raced in formula one” everyday. They were given a time limit in which to draw a picture representing the statement. The next person had to come up with the statement from the drawing. This was then repeated, with the third student creating a picture on this derived statement, and the fourth deducing a final statement from the third’s drawing. The final statements were compared to see which corresponded to the original statement given to the first student the m ost. The eventual winner was NAFL, followed by CMRNGC in second, and NPS HSR in third. Great job to all those who contended with this quirky challenge, and kudos to Lang-‐and-‐
Lit for devising it in the first place! VENI VIDI VICI The Opening Ceremony
As the lights went down, the excitement in the air was palpable. There was no doubt that everyone was eagerly waiting for VIVUMtwelve and as the wolf insignia came on, a loud cheer went up from the crowd. The VIVUM band set the tone for the opening ceremony and almost everyone was on their feet by the end of it. Soon after that came the invocation dance, which was a splendid combination of Indian culture and modern contemporary, and it was highly enjoyed by all. The spoof of Julius Caesar was humorous, with modern elements such as Skype and iPhone bringing in a new and interesting twist to the storyline. The line “Give him the toughest punishment – enrol him in the IB!” was a fantastic finish to the story and surely everyone in the audience agreed if the uproarious laughter was anything to go by. TISB’s very own Biryani Boys set the stage on fire with their dance performance. If all this wasn’t enough, Bombay Rockers came in and gave a scintillating performance that had the entire crowd on its feet, dancing and cheering with enthusiasm. All in all, the opening ceremony totally set the mood for a wonderful fun-‐filled VIVUM and left everyone with a sense of excitement about what was to come. VIVUM: Sports
Minutes after a marvellous opening ceremony, finally the sport events began. A majority of schools have taken part in various sporting activities. Starting with football, the TISB –B team suffered an early upset and went down fighting against D.P.S East. The match ended 2-‐0 in favour of D.P.S East which saw them through to the next round of the 11 – a -‐ side football tournament. The remaining two fixtures were D.P.S North against Lake Montfort and N.P.S Indiranagar against N.P.S Kormangla. Both these games ended in a stalemate and D.P.S North and N.P.S Indiranagar went through to the next round on penalties. Today the highly awaited match starring the TISB-‐A team is scheduled to begin at 12:30 pm. In the 5 – a-‐ side tournament, hosts TISB went through on penalties after the game ended 2-‐2. The TISB basketball team also won their game against N.P.S HSR. The highlight of the sporting events on Day 1 was the 7-‐
0 routing of the Ryan International hockey team by the TISB-‐A hockey team. All in all, the first day of sporting events in Vivum were exciting and surely it can only get better as teams progress through the knockout rounds. Vogue: Before&After
Footwork: Dizzy Steps
From 1PM to 2PM yesterday, the Galleria was changed into a makeup artists’ haven. Talented budding beauticians sat with colourful makeup sets and pictures and worked on their ‘models’. Each school was given the picture of a differently made up celebrity. They had to make their model up in the same way as shown in the picture. The trick was to do this as impeccably as possible within the stipulated time. As the hands of the clock ticked on, participants worked harder and worry was written all over their faces. After the time had ended, students were still hurrying to add their finishing touches. Every model looked wonderful and it was clear that the participants were practised in wielding eyeliners and lipsticks. Nevertheless, all could not be adjudged winners and the schools that outshone the others were NPS-‐I, Trio International School and NPS-‐HSR in the first, second and third places respectively. Most of the schools participating in Vivum brought along their exceptional dancers to showcase their talents at Dizzysteps, the Inter-‐school dance competition of the festival. The event was a grand success, with each of the schools putting up extremely captivating performances. The two schools that reached the finals were NPS, Koramangala and NPS, Indiranagar. The finale envisaged a group dance from each school and if the scores had tied, there would be a face-‐off between the individual dancers from the two schools. And that was just what happened! The atmosphere during the face off that followed was absolutely electrifying, with the two participants competing in 3 brief, yet intense dances, while their supporters cheered them on. Though the audience thoroughly enjoyed the treat, the performances put the judges in a dilemma of sorts, as they had to deliver the final verdict. The result was NPS K emerging as victors of Dizzysteps twelve! TheHowl:
Battle of the Bands Round 1
The preliminary round of the Battle of the Bands, one of the most-‐awaited events of Vivum, was held in the small auditorium yesterday. There was a huge turnout. As band after band churned out songs from a varied range of genres, a thrilled audience involved itself in every performance. From the reaction of the audience, it was evident that the event had surpassed their expectations. The musical talent, hard work and determination of the participants were put to test not just by the experienced judges but also the cheering crowd. All the bands exuded confidence on stage. Music-‐lovers will agree that the event was truly wonderful. And this was only the preliminary round – the finals are bound to be more fun, more amazing and more rocking! The schools that have made into the next round are NPS-‐I,TISB and CMR – Let’s all await with bated breath for the round that is to come! Wednesday, November 7th
