Southern Charm 10 Days / 9 Nights Thursday - Monday January 21 - 30, 2016 Join the Judy’s Leisure Tours as we travel to the Nashville, Atlanta, Savannah and Charleston. This exciting trip gives you at taste of Southern hospitality and charm and the experience of a lifetime. Today we start our journey to the south and make our way to Rockford, IL. After stopping at our hotel to freshen up we head to Hoffman House Restaurant for dinner. 1 Today we are off to music city Nashville, TN. We will be staying at the spectacular Opryland Resort. Tonight we enjoy a traditional BBQ dinner at Nashville’s #1 dinning and entertainment destination the Wildhorse Saloon. No trip to Nashville would be complete without attending the Grand Ole Opry. We cap our evening with a preformance that showcases a mix of country legends and the contemporary chart-toppers who have followed in their footsteps. 2 This morning it’s time to sit back and enjoy the ride as we travel to Atlanta, GA. Our first stop following lunch will be an Inside CNN Studio Tour where we will get a first hand look at how the news is gathered, written and reported. Next we are joined by a guide who will give us a tour of Georgia’s history, Atlanta’s history in the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement and the Centennial Olympic Games of 1996. We end our evening with dinner at the one remaining original tea room in Atlanta Mary Mac’s Tea Room for a family style traditional southern dinner. 3 After breakfast we head to the Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Site. You will have time to explore the Visitor Center, the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Dr. And Mrs. King’s Tomb and view the eternal flame and the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame. Next we are off to Macon, GA and the Hay House. One of Georgia’s most distinguished structures, the Johnston-FeltonHay House in Macon was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1974. The house itself contains more than 16,000 square feet in 24 principal rooms. After lunch on your own we are off to Savannah, GA the first planned city in the United States where you will have free time to explore the southern charm and hospitality the city has to offer. 4 This morning we start with a narrated Trolley Tour of Savannah’s Historic District. You will ride along cobblestone paved streets beneath mossdraped oaks and experience the “Old South” with her stately mansions, beautiful squares, romantic riverfront and abundance of artifacts. Your afternoon is free to explore as your trolley pass is valid throughout the day. Tonight we dine at 45 Bistro one of the best restaurants in Savannah, which is housed in a renovated historic1852 building. 5 Today we stop in the old port town of Beaufort, SC, about as Southern as it gets. It’s tucked off the beaten path on the banks of the Intra-Coastal Waterway. Enjoy a horse and carriage ride through this town of historic antebellum homes and narrow oak-lined streets. In addition enjoy shopping at the art galleries, antique shops and modern boutiques that dot the entire downtown and uptown walking districts. After lunch on your own we travel to Charleston, SC where we will be joined by a guide who will take us on a tour of picturesque and exquisitely preserved Charleston. The city is a visual feast of antebellum architecture, cobblestone streets, flickering lanterns and historic landmarks. 6 This morning we head to Magnolia Plantation. Magnolia has been selected as one of "America's Most Beautiful Gardens" by Travel + L e i s u r e Magazine. Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. After lunch (on your own) we will take a narrated cruise to visit Fort Sumter the site of the first shots fired in the American Civil War. Fort Sumter is a poignant part of our country’s biography. 7 As we ahead out of Charleston for home we make a few more stops on o u r Southern Charm tour. Our first stop is Angel Oak T r e e reportedly the oldest thing - living or man-made - east of the Rockies, Angel Oak is a live oak tree aged approximately 1,500 years. Our next stop is The Charleston Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in the United States. The Charleston Tea Plantation is the home of American Classic Tea, tea grown in America. It is located on picturesque Wadmalaw Island in the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry. Its grounds include 127 acres of Camellia Sinensis tea plants, a working Tea Factory and a charming Plantation Gift Shoppe. We continue our journey through Tennessee into Kentucky where we will overnight in Richmond, KY. And who knows we may surprise you with a unique stop or two along the way. 8 We continue towards home through Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and into Wisconsin. We will over night in Beloit, WI. Tonight you will have time for one last dinner together (on your own) to reminisce about the memories created on your trip. 9 Following breakfast we start the final leg of tour, making stops for your comfort along the way.
