It started more than 200 years ago...
Homoeopathy was founded more than 200 years ago by
Dr. Samuel Hahnemann who gave direction to this
branch of medicine with his famous concept :
"Similia similibus curenter" ( let likes cure likes )
The three basic principles of homoeopathy are:
1. The rule of simile
2. Testing of medicament in healthy human being
3. The principle of homoeopathic dosage
The rule of simile or "similia similibus curentur" is the
basic principle of homoeopathy and forms its nucleus.
Homoeopathy started with experiments on the effects of
Cinchona by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. In a series of
repeated tests with Cinchona, he observed certain
pathological effects (symptoms) which appeared to
resemble intermittent fever (now known as Quinine
fever). Studies on many substances led him to establish a
new rule of cure. Substances which are capable of
producing symptoms in a healthy human being, are
capable of curing the same symptoms, when given in
micro quantities. This marked the formal beginning of
homoeopathy in 1796.
Homoeopathy - a natural therapy
Homoeopathy is holistic as it considers the entire
individual with its physical, mental and emotional
symptoms and treats the sum of the symptoms according
to the rule of simile. It is described as a specifically
determined or organ-specific threshold stimulation
therapy. It is the aim of this therapy to produce a
"reactivation" or stimulation of the autoregulatory activity
in the organism. Homoeopathy is a natural therapy,
directed at an active participation of the organism's
natural capacity to react and regulate, adapt and
regenerate itself, as well as to defend itself against
pathogenic influences/noxious effects.
The symptoms, in their totality are the pre- requirement
for the selection of the medicament according to the rule
of simile.
Homoeopathic medicines
As per the homoeopathic philosophy and concept, a
substance can become a homoeopathic remedy only
after the pharmacist has processed the crude product of
nature in accordance with homoeopathic technique in
order to develop its inherent properties and makes its
medicinal properties ready for use.

The legend who set standards for

Dr. Willmar Schwabe (1840-1917), pharmacist, author
and publisher, pioneered the introduction of scientific
methods and standards into the profession of pharmacy.
- Dr. Willmar Schwabe Arzneimittel, as the company is
called today, is the oldest, most venerated homoeopathic
manufacturer in Germany and the world. One of the
international leaders in the production of natural
medicines, regarded as an institution in itself, the history
of the company provides some of the most outstanding
examples of contributions to the evolution of
homoeopathy after Hahnemann.
- Dr. Willmar Schwabe founded the Homoeopathic
Central Pharmacy to manufacture and sell homoeopathic
medicines in 1866.
- Dr. Willmar Schwabe created precise standards for
homoeopathic pharmaceutical production, published in
1872 as Pharmocopoeia Homoeopathic Polyglotta and
later revised it as it is known today " Dr. Willmar Schwabe
Homoeopathisches Arzeinbuch" which was
subsequently accepted as the official German
Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia (HAB) which serves as
an international reference standard for homoeopathy
even today.
- Dr. Willmar Schwabe also established a publishing
company for medical literature, medical plant nurseries
and founded the first homoeopathic clinic in Leipzig,
Germany. His family continues to lead the company
following the creative spirit of research and science
established by Dr. Willmar Schwabe.
The main aim of Dr. Willmar Schwabe was to standardise
the industrial production of homoeopathic medicines by
strictly adhering to the rules of Hahnemann. To quote him
"I have founded an institution of my own which examines
every homoeopathic remedy for genuineness and purity
and which sets standards for its quantity, the content,
effectiveness and the characteristics of the substances".

Schwabe remedies have a long tradition in India.
Homoeopaths in India have used and continue to use
Schwabe formulations based on their deep faith in the
quality of its medicines. It is therefore only natural that the
Schwabe family has a long term interest in the
development of homoeopathy in India. In fact our first
order from India was raised over a century back.
With the establishment of its state-of-the-art
manufacturing plant in Noida, Uttar Pradesh,
Dr. Willmar Schwabe India Pvt. Ltd., as the new company
is known, brings to India more than 140 years old tradition
of excellence in the production of homoeopathic
medicines. The plant, the only one of its kind in the
country, deploys the best technological know how
available in the world today.
The company imparts high grade training to its
employees in the original German homoeopathic
formulations, while respecting the local legal frame work.
Starting initially with the manufacturing of Biochemic
Tissue Salts and Biocombinations, today the company is
manufacturing and marketing a wide range of mother
tinctures, dilutions, attenuated trituration tablets, Alfalfa
tonic and other speciality formulations.
STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
Schwabe's commitment - " No Compromise with Quality
'' and the meticulous efforts put in during the planning
stage are well reflected in their Indian plant. A lot of
emphasis is laid on cleanliness. Absolutely dust free
environment is maintained by various methods. The
structure is so designed that every accessory like air
conditioning, electrical supply, hot water, cold water, DM
water and distilled water required in the manufacturing
area come through the technical floor which is just above
the manufacturing area. This system also leads to
efficiency as all maintenance can be done without
disturbing or contaminating the production area. The
technical floor has 17 Air Handling Units (AHUs) of which
8 are exclusively for the production area. Two fresh air
changes take place in an hour in each Air Handling Unit.
The production area has "Epoxy" flooring and rounded
corners. This prevents dust particles from settling on the
floor.
High Efficiency Particulate Air Filters ( HEPA Filters )
have also been installed in the plant to ensure total
bacterial elimination in the filling area. This facility, apart
from use of genuine raw materials, back potencies and
Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) makes Schwabe India
dilutions superior to other dilutions in the market.
The plant has its own water distillation unit to meet its
total requirements. There is also a de-mineralised water
plant which provides up to 10,000 liters of water per day.
To avoid microbial growth in stagnant water, this water is
kept under constant circulation.

SINGLE REMEDIES
Mother Tinctures - a class by themselves
- Schwabe India is the first company to use extra neutral
alcohol, a much more expensive but purer alternative to
any other type of alcohol used by many companies. Even
double distilled alcohol is not free from impurities such as
aldehyde and fusel oil. Extra neutral alcohol guarantees
that homoeopathic dilutions and tinctures are free from
impurities.
- The mother tinctures are filtered through very fine and
expensive filters, which remove even the minutest of
impurities that may occur during the handling of herbs.
- The distilled and filtered mother tinctures are stored in
rooms fitted with expensive explosion resistant and
flame-proof electrical fittings of proper intensities to avoid
any accident due to fire and protect the phytochemicals of
the tinctures.
Dilutions - the quality that makes the
difference
Drug potentization is done using the Hahnemannian
method, which was introduced by Dr. Hahnemann
himself and followed by Dr. Schwabe from the beginning.
The whole process is under the responsibility of qualified
experts.
Trituration Tablets - manufactured as
per homoeopathic tradition
Homoeopathic pharmacopoeia of India prescribes that
the trituration should be done to 6x level and achieve
particle reduction to 10 microns. However, most
companies do trituration like simple mixing ignoring
particle reduction measurements since this is more
convenient. Schwabe believes in homoeopathic tradition
and do trituration as required. German triturators are
used for hard materials which can not be triturated on
other machines.
Globules
Sugar globules are used as vehicle in homoeopathic
medicines. Homoeopaths endorse that good quality
dilutions, especially the higher potencies, deteriorate or
even get destroyed by poor quality globules which
contain impurities and contaminations. At Schwabe
India, sugar globules are manufactured in stainless steel
pans in absolutely clean conditions, using pharma grade
sugar. For export to Germany, we import German sugar
and process it to globules which are made according to
German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia.
QUALITY CONTROL

A quality assurance laboratory checks the quality of all our
raw materials and packing materials and the finished
products.
All incoming herbs and other raw materials are tested for
their pharmacopoeial requirements and are compared
with authentic preserved samples that are used as set
samples. Cutting edge technology is used to assure
quality control. For instance Thin Layer Chomatographic
test is conducted on all mother tinctures and basic
substances, including CoTLC and Co-run UV scan
wherever required.
Schwabe's instrumental analytical laboratory is one of the
most highly sophisticated ones in the country, which helps
to maintain high standards of quality expected of leaders
in this business. Schwabe India has a well equipped
microbiological set up.
Schwabe India maintains a team of highly qualified
technical staff including experts in homoeopathy to
constantly guide and advise on the various aspects of
homoeopathic manufacture and quality control. The unit

Tissue salts and biochemic therapy
" The nature of the disease is linked to the disease
of the cell". Influenced by this fact and the
discovery that the natural activity of the cell
depends on a standard amount of inorganic salts,
helped Dr. Schuessler in developing his Biochemic
therapy. According to him any variation in normal
amount of inorganic nutritive salts, especially a
deficiency of these salts was the cause of a
disease. Consequently his therapy consisted of
compensating the deficiency of inorganic salts
through their medicinal counterparts. In this regard
it is not necessary to replace the deficiency with
substitution, but to release a stimulus to release
information which will help the cells to reabsorb the
necessary organic salts from the food, so that the
inner balance is maintained. Over the period of
time, many homoeopaths started using biochemic
medicines either alone or along with homoeopathic
medicines.

Mother Tinctures
Over 400 mother tinctures of different categories with
natural colour and flavour and the expected therapeutic
value. It is achieved by standardising over thirty factors
responsible for the quality of the product including the
authenticity of the basic material. These are judged by
pharmacopoeial parameters like macroscopic, and TLC
assays as applicable.
Dilutions
A wide range of dilutions in different potencies.
The number exceeds 1100 and the range includes
recently proved drugs, sarcodes and nosodes. These
are made by Hahnemannian method, using Schwabe's
imported and in-house back potencies.
