I had the great privilege to meet high-level representatives fully involved in sports. The City of Lausanne has sports in its genes and the wish to ripen and give priority to a sustainable development under a controlled program, two main aspects which consolidated our relationship. 4 MY TEAM AND MYSELF ARE DELIGHTED TO PRESENT THE FIRST EDITION OF THE LAUSANNE INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW Sport is undoubtedly at the heart of the event. For the first time ever, Switzerland will welcome an event of the famous Global Champions Tour: a magnificent circuit bringing together the best riders and horses in the world, since 2006. Now, our goal is to go even further by allowing a wider range of people to discover this extraordinary sport and this magnificent animal — the horse. Three Saumur’s Cadre Noir extraordinary performances of the worldwide known French cavalry school will display the quintessence of the equestrian art. Our deepest desire is that the children’s village, numerous exhibitors and upstream events will allow the public of Lausanne to have an unforgettable experience. It is important for us to reach maximum participation. Today, the Lausanne International Horse Show brings us together, and we hope this will be the beginning of many more gatherings in Lausanne. A strong working partnership between marketing expert Stéphane Allio and our experienced event team will prove a formidable mix to deliver an outstanding international event in Lausanne. Jan Tops started his career as a horse rider. His all time career sporting achievement is an Olympic team gold medal won at the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. Jan expanded his involvement in the sport by developing a world class show jumping stable and training facility in his native town Valkenswaard, in The Netherlands. CSI Valkenswaard was created in 1993 and has established itself as one of the best horse shows in the world. However Jan had a vision to raise the sport to a new paradigm and his realisation of this vision materialised in the creation of the Global Champions Tour which was launched in 2006. Today, Jan focuses on growing his various business units and is proud to be an influential force in the sport of show jumping. Global Champions Tour welcomes Lausanne, home of the Olympic Committee and the FEI, to its world class circuit. Careful material selection, quality service providers complying with ISO 14000 standards, a location within 500 meters walking distance to public transport. All is being anticipated to make the Lausanne International Horse Show an event compatible with environmental issues. This being our first edition we are aware that there is a still a long way to go before we are able to deliver an event with a 100% green label. Nevertheless, we are committed to spread our green initiatives amongst the riders, public and partners . 10 The participation of the public will take an important role : a part of the ticket value will be reimbursed to projects managed by the NGO South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd, with the purpose of compensating CO2 emissions. In order to give credibility and a tangible value to our initiatives, we have decided to count on professionals of environmental issues. Quantis will be supporting us during the whole process of preparation and validation of our initiatives, evaluating the real impact of our activities in a precise manner. At the end of the event, an exhaustive assessment will be delivered and we will debrief about the totality of the results and actions to be put in place for future editions. GREEN COMMITMENT COMMITMENT REQUIRES ACCURATE MEASUREMENT THE LAUSANNE INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW AND QUANTIS JOIN FORCES TO ENSURE THAT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF THE EVENT WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND DULY MONITORED Thanks to the high media visibility, sport is increasingly becoming a reference model for the general public. Therefore, it is of highest importance to embrace the environmental issues. Quantis uses a global approach of environmental impacts (e.g. regarding global warming, water or biodiversity) covering all the steps of an event, enterprise or product life cycle. QUANTIS AND THE LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS (LCA) QUANTIS For us, this approach aims to evaluate the environmental impacts of an event, to act efficiently on the sources of the main impacts, but also to increase awareness among partners and spectators, inviting them to participate in the green initiative. We will also undertake regional or international actions to compensate residual impacts including greenhouse gas emission compensation projects managed by South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd. Quantis is one of the world leaders in life cycle analysis counselling (LCA, or environmental balance). The company was founded in 2006, and is currently employing 70 people spread around its Swiss, French, Canadian and American offices. There are several experts worldwide recognized in LCA methods. Quantis keeps a very close relationship within the scientific community and participates in numerous research projects. This approach allows them to help all type of organisations, measuring, analysing and managing the environmental impacts of their activities. The troop was founded in 1828, and gets its name from the black uniforms that are still used today. It is one of the most prestigious horsemanship schools in the world. Accordingly in 1972, the Equestrian National School was constituted around the Cadre Noir, which form its core teaching staff. Today, there are about 50 horses and a team of elite riders. 12 A UNIFORM OF RICH HISTORY The members of the Cadre Noir have either civilian or military status. Some of the riders have reached the highest level of international sport, being Olympic or World Champions. This type of horsemanship on which the school is built was taught by Francois Robichon de la Gueriniere, the French riding master to King Louis XV and author of the book “École de Cavalerie”, which was published in 1731. In 1815, the first recruited horsemen were civil and frequently retired officials. To distinguish themselves from the military school dressed in blue (cavalry colour), they progressively adopted a black attire. The military horsemen that replaced them perpetuated this tradition and preserved it. Today, the only remarkable differences between civil and military clothes are the stripes displayed on their tunics and kepis: the one of the civil uniform being trimmed with a small golden sun and the one of the military uniform, with a lighted grenade. A N I M AT I O N S A PLACE FOR EVERYONE BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE EVENT, FANS, RIDERS AS WELL AS THE GENERAL PUBLIC WILL BE GIVEN A WIDE RANGE OF OPPORTUNITIES TO BE PART OF THE LAUSANNE INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW The Lausanne International Horse Show will sponsor an Interclub Challenge of jumping competitions within the Canton of Vaud. A ranking will be established at the end of each competition. The winning club riders will be rewarded by having the privilege to take part in the event organisation as part of the assistance crew on the arena and this way admire the world stars of jumping in close proximity. Moreover tickets will be regularly offered via online games at the official website www.lausannehorseshow.com . Children will be able to test their knowledge by answering questions about riders and horses participating in the competition. Finally, the Children Village will provide a space for discovery about the world of horses. An introductory tour will allow them to learn about a horse’s life cycle and to ride a pony for the first time. A second area focused on raising awareness towards green actions will also be an integrating part of the Village. STROLLING, SHOPPING AND NIBBLING INSIDE THE EXHIBITORS VILLAGE Multiple exhibitors will be present at the event, offering a unique opportunity to explore the latest trends. Located at the heart of Bellerive, the exhibition will be open to the public, free of charge.
