Speakers
James Barr – Vice-President/General Manager,
Asia Pacific, Terex Aerial Work Platforms
Jim has 32 years of experience in the aerial work platform industry with Genie/
Terex AWP. Over the past 20 years, he has been directly involved in the leadership,
growth and development of regions throughout Asia Pacific. In 1996, Jim entered
into the Asia Pacific market with the task of educating the market, developing a
dealer network and driving the growth of the rental opportunity in all regions.
Over this time, to be successful, Jim and the team aggressively developed the
required infrastructure to support the growth and needs of their customer base.
Today, there are about 150 commercial team members (sales, service, inside
support) in Asia Pacific with 12 offices.
Tomie Chan – General Manager, Haulotte Asia
Tomie started his career in the AWP industry as the Asian service manager based
in Australia in 1996. He then relocated to Hong Kong and assisted in setting up the
JLG Hong Kong office in 1998. Tomie got involved in sales a year later and was
promoted to JLG Asia general manager in 2002. Apart from setting up the JLG
Beijing office and developing the Chinese market, he was also involved in growing
the AWP business for JLG in Japan. At end 2008, he moved to Haulotte as the
Asia GM based in Shanghai. During the past 7.5 years, his key focus has been the
China market which is growing rapidly. He also chairs the IPAF Singapore Country
Council since 2013.
Janne Haapalainen, Area Sales Representative, South East Asia,
Australia and New Zealand Scanclimber
Janne has been part of the mast climbing work platform industry in Asia and
Oceania for the past 15 years. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree
from the International Business School, University Technology Malaysia. He was
part of the management team to establish and operate several mast climbing
work platform companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
In 2011 Janne was appointed as area sales representative for Scanclimber Oy.
He has wide knowledge of mast climber applications in challenging industries
like oil & gas, power plants, shipyards and skyscrapers.
Kimmo Koskensalo – Chief Technology Officer, Scanclimber
Kimmo Koskensalo has been Chief Technology Officer at Scanclimber for the
past six years, being responsible for technology, design and R&D of Scanclimber
machinery and special projects. From 2000 to 2009, he was with Scaninter, first
as product manager, hoists and lifts; and later as hoist division manager, material
hoists, transport platforms, construction hoists and permanent industrial lifts.
He is a qualified electrician and holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical power
engineering and a master’s degree in automation engineering from the
Tampere University of Technology in Finland.
Jiro Noguchi – Director, Nishio Rent All Singapore Pte Ltd
Jiro Noguchi joined Nishio Rent All in 1988. Since then, he has moved progressively
and held director positions in Nishio Rent All’s operations in Singapore (2002),
Malaysia (2004) and Indonesia (2015). He holds a bachelor of business
management degree from Kinki University. He is a Japanese citizen currently
residing in Singapore.

Liew Wan Sein – Principal Specialist (Engineering Safety),
OSH Specialist Department, Occupational Safety & Health Division,
Ministry of Manpower, Singapore
Engineer Liew has been in the field of safety and health for 14 years. Her research
interests include mobile elevating work platforms, forklifts and lifting machines.
She is a registered professional engineer with the Professional Engineers Board
Singapore and a registered Workplace Safety & Health Officer. She studied
mechanical engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and
obtained her MSc (Safety, Health & Environmental) Technology from NUS.
Alan Loux – Vice-President, Global Marketing, JLG Industries, Inc.
Alan Loux is responsible for leading the company’s marketing activities worldwide,
including strategic planning, product management and marketing communications.
Alan joined JLG in 2013 with more than 25 years of experience in marketing,
innovation and business management. Prior to joining JLG, he was Corporate
Vice-President of Marketing for Direct Supply, Inc. He worked at Kimberly-Clark for
more than 19 years in multiple brand marketing and management roles, including
Vice-President of Marketing, where he was responsible for managing some of the
world’s strongest global brands. Alan also formed The Loux Company, providing
marketing and management expertise to non-profit organisations. Alan graduated
from the University of Wisconsin School of Business (Madison, Wisconsin, USA) with
an MBA in marketing. He completed his undergraduate studies at Wheaton College
(Wheaton, Illinois) where he earned a bachelor of business administration degree in
business/economics.
Hansen Ng – IPAF Senior Instructor, and Executive Director, BS Technology Pte Ltd
Hansen has been in the access industry since 2005. He oversees the management
and operating of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) in BS Technology, and
is currently the Executive Director. The company was the first to become an IPAF
approved training centre in Asia in 2007. Hansen was certified as an IPAF Senior
Instructor in 2011. He has immense experience in training from conducting IPAF
operator, demonstrator, instructor and MEWPs for Managers courses in Singapore
and overseas, including Shanghai and Tianjin in China. He won an International
Awards for Powered Access (IAPA) trophy as IPAF Training Instructor of the Year
2015. Hansen graduated with a bachelor of commerce degree and is a member of
the IPAF Singapore Country Council. He actively participates in the MEWP industry
in standards work groups and as a guest speaker.
Josephine Lee – Executive Manager, Construction Productivity and Quality Group,
Building & Construction Authority, Singapore
Josephine Lee is currently the Executive Manager from the Construction
Productivity and Quality Group of the Building and Construction Authority.
The Construction Productivity and Quality Group (CPQ) promotes and educates
the built environment sector on the technology available to improve productivity.
It adopts a customer-centric account servicing approach in helping firms in
their productivity journey and also in the administering of the CPCF incentives
to encourage technology adoption, manpower development and capability
building by firms.

Shahid Qureshi – Director of Product Safety, Asia Pacific & Middle East, Haulotte
In his current position as Director of Product Safety with Haulotte, Shahid Qureshi
develops standards for design and safe use of products, working with counterparts
in Europe and Oceana; identifies market opportunities; participates in product
development projects from concept through implementation; investigates and
develops new technologies; and initiates product safety programmes that include
hazard analysis, design reviews and warnings development. He joined the Haulotte
Group in 2007 and was previously Product Development Manager with Oshkosh
company IMT (2004-2007), Director of Engineering with the Mayville Engineering
Company (1998-2001), and Director, Product Engineering with Simon Aerials
(1991-1997).
Olaf Sterkenburg – Group Commercial Director, Riwal Holding Group
Olaf has been working for Riwal since September 2014 in the role of Country
Manager Benelux, after an extensive international corporate career and a
foundation in strategy consulting. Olaf has been instrumental in bringing the Dutch
and Belgium (“Benelux”) Riwal organisation to the next level of professionalism. In
his current role as Group Commercial Director, Olaf leads all of the commercial
efforts of the Riwal Group and oversees the International Sales, International Rental
as well as Marketing & Communications departments. The group managers of
these departments report to Olaf and there is dotted line reporting from the
commercial managers in the country organisations to Olaf. Olaf reports directly to
Riwal’s CEO, Norty Turner.
Romina Vanzi, IPAF Head of Regional Development and MCWPs
Romina Vanzi supervises and coordinates IPAF’s operations in different regions.
She is also responsible for developing support and services for IPAF’s MCWP
members worldwide. Before joining IPAF, Romina gained over five years’
experience in the mast climbing work platform (MCWP) sector, most recently as
export for Spanish manufacturer Elevadores Goian and before that as export
manager for Electroelsa.
Jonathan Wan, Managing Director, Transvert Scaffold & Engineering Pte Ltd,
and Executive Committee member, Access & Scaffold Industry Association (ASIA)
Jonathan is a strong believer in the “lead by example” principle. Prior to his role as
managing director, Jonathan worked his way up the ranks, starting as a junior
operations executive and working alongside with scaffolders. Jonathan dedicated
almost a decade of time and passion in learning the scaffold trade and honing his
craft. His dedication and in-depth knowledge of the industry has won the respect of
not only Transvert’s management and staff, but also experienced industry players
and the authorities alike. He has also successfully chaired the first-ever Work At
Height Conference 2013, an event that was supported by the Ministry of Manpower,
Workplace Safety and Health Council, and Singapore Workforce Development
Agency in November 2013.

Tim Whiteman – IPAF CEO & Managing Director
Tim took up his current position in January 2004. He has more than 25 years’
experience in the lifting industry, mainly as a publisher and journalist. He founded
The Vertikal Press in 1999, publisher of Cranes & Access, Kran & Bühne and
vertikal.net. Prior to that, Tim co-founded KHL International, the company that
launched leading magazines such as International Cranes and Access International.
Over eight years, he was responsible both as editor and later, financial director. He
is a member of the European Rental Association (ERA) Statistics Committee. Tim
holds a PAL Card (Powered Access Licence) to operate scissor lifts, self-propelled
booms and vehicle-mounted platforms.
Calvin Woon, Managing Director and Senior Consultant,
Zion Global Marketing Pte Ltd
Early in his career, Calvin helped increase interest in Internet marketing amongst
the masses. He excels in the field of Internet marketing and his extensive experience
in the industry has made him one of the most recognisable figures online. Calvin
graduated from the National University of Singapore with a BBA (Marketing) in 2008.
He has consulted for thousands of individuals and business owners from USA, UK,
Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong etc. in several areas of Internet
marketing, including search engine optimisation, online marketing and advertising,
and online lead generation. His expertise and knowledge is best reflected in his
achievements: he is currently managing two fast-growing corporations, one of which
is IM Buzz LLP, which has generated over $1 million in revenue online in just two
years. He also has been featured in various Singapore publications such as The
Straits Times and MyPaper for his online entrepreneurial activities, as well as for his
expertise and knowledge in Internet marketing for businesses.
Chris Wraith – IPAF Technical & Safety Executive
Chris has been involved in the access industry for over 25 years, initially as a
contract haulier delivering and operating mobile elevating work platforms
(MEWPs). He joined UK rental company Nationwide in the mid-90s, becoming an
IPAF senior instructor and completing a first class honours degree in Safety &
Environmental Management. Following a number of years as UK Quality Health,
Safety and Environmental manager for European dedicated MEWP rental company
Lavendon, he was appointed as technical officer for IPAF. He is a lead auditor and
a chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH).
Chris is widely acknowledged as a MEWP expert and regularly delivers
presentations at national and international events. He is involved in the
development of guidance and standards internationally and is responsible for
managing the IPAF accident reporting project.
