OPENING OF "AIR CAMPUS", a world première at Lyon - Saint Exupéry
airport. At the beginning of April 2011, the first flight simulation center will
open at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport. This center will ultimately be home to four
complementary activities for airline flight crew - the first in the world, combining
the following on a single site:
• Flight center simulation
• Medical center
• Training center (for pilots, hostesses, stewards, etc.)
• Hotel residence and restaurant for trainees.

Laurent Japhet is an unusual character; having worked as bank manager,
he followed his dream and became an airline pilot and instructor. Paying his
way through his training, he received his pilot license in 1979. Today, Laurent
Japhet is one of BRIT AIR’s most experienced pilots, with more than 18,000
flight hours. The ever-determined Laurent Japhet presented his project a
number of times without success: the project seemed overly ambitious. Japhet
set out to overcome these obstacles: he developed his project, adapted his
strategy and gained the support of serious partners. Throughout this "obstacle
course" he sought out those able to help him with each decisive stage: firstly,
Jean-Pierre Chevallard, Chairman of E2CA, an engineering firm, then Bernard
Olmer, Chairman of Fimmo and CFA Rhône Alpes Auvergne of the Financière
Duval group, who defined the program and the architectural, technical and
financial studies, as well as Franck Bogaard, Chairman of the Dutch company
SIM industries, supplier of the simulators, and finally Guy Rigaud, Chairman of
Rhône Alpes Création, who organized the round table that was needed to get
the project off the ground.

LAURENT JAPHET IN COMMAND
Laurent Japhet (58 years old), project founder, will be the holder of the center’s
certification. He will also chair the Board of Directors of SA Air Campus
Simuflight Center. Over the coming months, he will recruit and leading a
qualified, operational team to ensure the technical operation and commercial
activity of the center. For this, he will also be counting on the experience and
skills of the members of Supervisory Board.

Japhet’s team includes a number of different experts and companies from Lyon
who have contributed their advice and skills:
Bernard Olmer, CEO of Fimmo, responsible for finding real estate and finance
strategy.
Jean-Pierre Chevallard, CEO of E2CA, economist.
Alain Barbier, regional director of CFA Rhône-Alpes Auvergne, FINANCIERE
DUVAL group, both developer and investor.
AT’LAS Architects, selected for the originality of their project.
FORTEM legal associates for the legal aspects.

SIMULATOR, THE FOCAL
POINT OF THE PROJECT
AND A MANDATORY
REQUIREMENT
A pilot’s license only allows its holder
to take command of a plane that he/
she is qualified to fly. It requires 60
hours on a flight simulator.
Once the qualification has been obtained, it is only valid for six months. Renewal
(which is compulsory, otherwise an airline cannot continue to employ its pilot,
under pain of losing its Air Operator’s Certificate) requires the pilot to take an
8-hour course and exam on a simulator (over two days). Each category of plane
has its own simulator.
Airline staff must complete a refresher course every six months.
A flight crew comprised of two people (captain + co-pilot) who are accompanied
on these courses by an instructor from their own airline.
AIR CAMPUS SIMUFLIGHT CENTER, THE
FOCAL POINT OF THE PROJECT, READY
FOR SERVICE IN APRIL 2011
Air Campus Simuflight Center will be developing a flight simulator platform in
the Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport zone, to be rented on an hourly basis to airlines
from around the world and certified flight schools. Air Campus Simuflight
Center is an independent company, with no links to any individual airline.
Three latest generation flight simulators will be ready for operation when the
center opens:
1 Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator, 1 Boeing 737 NG Full Flight Simulator, 1
FNPT II Boeing737 N, ordered from Sim Industries, an AIR CAMPUS partner.
Access to simulators will be guaranteed 22/24 hours. Maintenance operations
will be carried out during crew changes (real situation scenario).

1-4 • PROJECTS READY FOR TAKE-OFF…
To ensure a comprehensive offer that meets the expectations of airlines and
TRTO (Type Rating Training Organizations, the organizations certified to issue
qualifications), other complementary activities will then be brought to the same
site. The project also includes creation of the following when the center opens
in April 2011:
AIR CAMPUS CEMA
An aviation medical center, certified to conduct
the periodical, compulsory medical examinations
of pilots, hostesses and stewards.
Subsequently, two other subsidiaries will be developed:
AIR CAMPUS ACADEMY,
A flight crew, sales and technical training center
proposing training courses to complete those
offered by the TRTOs.
AIR CAMPUS ‘INN
Accommodation and restaurant for future trainees.
The center will offer a high level of services (fitness
center, swimming pool, etc.), including a 24-hour
restaurant to fit with the highly specific lifestyles
of flight crew.

A new economic boost
for Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport
The AIR CAMPUS offer, the only one of its kind in the world, is an ideal addition
to the city airport model deployed by Aéroports de Lyon at Lyon-Saint Exupéry,
with the creation of a new dynamic center for professions directly related to
the airport industry. Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport will thus become a key site for
airline companies from around the world.

A FEW KEY FIGURES :
At present, world demand is 15,000 new pilots per year, for at least the next
fifteen years. (Sources: OACI and AIRBUS).
AIRBUS and BOEING each deliver some 500 new planes of the same category
every year. Each plane is piloted by 5.5 crews (including 1 instructor).
To date, considering only the Airbus A 320, there are 6,297 aircraft in flight
or on order, which represents 69,267 pilots, i.e. more than 1,108,000 hours of
simulator use.
Bearing in mind that there are just 134 simulators in operation at present
throughout the world, and that demand is increasing, AIR CAMPUS cannot fail
to gain market share.
Today, only “major” companies have an in-house training center, since an
operational threshold of 64 aircraft of the same type is necessary to make such
an investment profitable.
The 700 small and medium sized airline companies from AROUND THE WORLD
which do not have or will not have this type of equipment are all potential
customers for Air Campus. By remaining independent, Air Campus will be able
to customize each offer for these airlines.
It is important to remember that Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport itself will facilitate
the development of an international clientele simply because of the attractive
nature of the Rhone-Alps region, but also and primarily because of its easy
access, with more than 8 million passengers per year. The airport has direct
flight links with more than 120 European cities and is of course connected to
the largest European hubs.
Lyon’s TGV stations including Saint Exupéry, the Rhônexpress and the tramway
express linking the airport with Lyon downtown in less than 30 minutes, along
with the airport’s motorway intersection make the site ideal for all airlines and
TRTOs seeking to offer excellent working conditions to their pilots and other
flight crew. Furthermore, this accessibility, associated with the fact that all
the activities related to flight crew training can be found on the same site, will
ultimately enable significant time savings, thereby enabling improved schedule
management and major productivity increases.

Ultimately, AIR CAMPUS will create more than 80 direct jobs on the Saint
Exupéry site.
• 17 employees in the AIR CAMPUS SIMUFLIGHT CENTER
• 10 employees for AIR CAMPUS CEMA
• Around fifteen for AIR CAMPUS ACADEMY
• Around fifty for AIR CAMPUS ‘INN
The presence of large numbers of trainees who will be staying an average of 48
hours on the site, near Lyon and the Alps, will also result in the development of
other commercial activities. Added to this, are the sub-contracting and various
associated activities that are also liable to generate indirect employment.

Take one original, innovative idea: the creation of a unique flight simulator
training center.
Allow to stew in the mind of a passionate, enterprising captain until the idea
takes shape.
Add a team of leading flight experts to define the development project.
Fold in a group of determined shareholders who support and encourage the
project.
Find the ideal platter in which to serve the project, i.e. Lyon-Saint Exupéry
airport.
Roll out the project, carefully planning each stage of its development.
