1st Prize - Eurosolar Italia
Category e ) Solar Architecture and Solar Urban Planning 1st Prize Motivation: For the coherent and systematic research of the technological innovative solar components as a new architectural language, able to answer to the energy efficiency in high architecture quality building. PRIZE AWARD: Project: STATO DELLA CITTÀ DEL VATICANO Governatorato della città del Vaticano Segretario generale arcivescovo Renato Boccardo Prof. Ing. Livio de Santoli Photovoltaic integration for the “Sala Nervi” Address: Studio “Energia e Ambiente Via 3 Cannelle,15, 00183 Roma [email protected] [email protected] Project Systems The very advanced “ bioclimatic concrete double roof” for the “ Sala Nervi” monumental architectonical building used for the Vatican Audience Hall of 8.000 seats designed by Pier Luigi Nervi in 1971, need a radical restoration intervention. The 4.800 concrete degraded roof tiles supported by different “umbrella steel structures” had to be substituted by new architectonical elements following the rigid rules of the Italian and international Restoration Chart, with some “ analogical aesthetical and technological characteristic”. Actual state The Vatican “Governatorato” and the scientific working team of the Rome University coordinated by the Prof. Ing. Livio De Santoli had the courage to propose a complete photovoltaic roof design in order to assure the solar radiation protection and cover the energy need of the building and part of the Vatican connected structures. The design is supported by calculations and simulations try to produce the maximum level of architectural integration, defining the appropriate characteristic of the material, the size and the colours.
