As a parent, maybe you've seen this trend where some teachers and parents are finding ways to help engage children's senses through play. If you are new to sensory play, I hope to help you find the courage to get started once you find how easy it can be. I'm here to share ideas you can try. I am a mom and have two kids who like to have fun! My son is 7 and has autism. He and my daughter, who is 5, both have sensory issues, so I know how important sensory play is for them. But, all children can benefit and really, it is just a lot of fun! Now to me, this winter has been a little weird. It got off to a late start, there have been days with a lot of snow, and then sometimes it's gone as fast as it came. So this month, I am dedicating "Sensational Sensory" to creating your own winter fun regardless of the weather. RECIPE SNOW DOUGH INSTRUCTIONS 1.Mix all ingredients in flat food storage container with a lid about the size of a casserole dish. The snow dough should feel like a crumbly molding dough when you are done, but you can play with adding more or less oil to find a texture that you like. Your kids can even help mix So, what if the snow dough might be this together! a little much for you and your kiddo 2. Put dough in the freezer for 3hrs or right now? Fill that same container with overnight. When it's cold enough, your a bag of cotton balls and get your kids can set up winter scenes with figures ice-cream scoops out. You can add to encourage pretend play. It's like sparkly or just plain blue craft playing in their own mini shivery sand pom-poms to it. You certainly could add any of your favorite figures to that box. (Kids should be supervised when as well. Happy Sense-ploration!! playing with snow dough.) Flour - 8 cups Vegetable oil - 1 cup Fun additional ingredients: Glitter (a tsp or 2 or more!) 4-5 drops essential peppermint oil FEBRUARY CALENDAR OF EVENTS Mom Review edition Personal Story What a wonderful experience! I’ve heard so much about Sweet Charlottes over the past several months. I have 3 boys ages 2, 4 and 6 (2 with ASD, ADHD and SPD) so I always check things out before taking all 3 places. I walked in this morning unannounced and was greeted by Molly and soon thereafter her intern Megan. I explained why I was stopping by. I had my youngest Jack with me and she welcomed him to play while they showed me around and explained what Sweet Charlottes is all about. Megan was a beautiful young lady and immediatedly took the time to play with my -Monthly Theme:goal Page 1 inspire others sharing stories little Jack while I spent time speaking with Sweet Charlottes is to Molly.
