Alle bieren die wij in het assortiment hebben kunnen worden geleverd in Dolium® fusten. Dit zijn
one-way PET fusten, speciaal gemaakt voor eenmalig gebruik. Ten opzichte van de RVS fusten die we
gewend zijn te gebruiken hebben de Dolium® fusten vele voordelen voor de klant.
Dolium® fusten worden volledig gemaakt van PET materiaal, een soort hard plastic waar o.a. ook
frisdrankflessen van gemaakt worden. De fusten worden in een speciale ‘clean room’ gemaakt en
daarna schoongespoeld en op druk gebracht met Co2. Dit garandeert dat de fusten brandschoon en
volledig bacterievrij zijn voordat deze afgevuld worden.
De belangrijkste voordelen van de Dolium® fusten zijn:
 de fusten zijn lichter in gewicht dan RVS fusten, hierdoor wordt het werken met fusten een
stuk prettiger;
 de fusten zijn voor eenmalig gebruik, dus er word geen statiegeld berekend over de fusten;
 ruimtebesparing omdat de fusten niet terug hoeven naar de brouwerij, de fusten worden na
gebruik plat gemaakt en weggegooid, waarna deze volledig gerecycled kunnen worden;
 het bier is langer houdbaar in de Dolium® ® fusten, de kwaliteit van het bier word langer
gegarandeerd;
 De fusten worden gemaakt van zeer milieuvriendelijk, geheel recyclebaar materiaal.
Hieronder vind u een uitgebreide handleiding en veiligheidssheet aangaande de Dolium® fusten. Het
is van groot belang dat u deze handleiding volgt en de aan de veiligheidseisen voldoet om optimaal
gebruik te kunnen maken van de Dolium® fusten. Wij zijn niet verantwoordelijk voor het onjuist
gebruik van de fusten en eventuele gevolgen naar aanleiding van onjuist gebruik ervan. Bij elke
levering zal er een veiligheidssheet meegeleverd worden met alle benodigde informatie.
Voordat u voor de eerste maal gebruik gaat maken van de Dolium® ® fusten raden wij aan de
volgende instructies en waarschuwingen te lezen en door te geven aan uw personeel:
Houd de vaten uit de buurt van kinderen
Zowel onder druk als drukloos zijn de fusten ongeschikt om gebruikt te worden door kinderen, het is
geen speelgoed.
Dolium® One Way Kegs zijn alleen geschikt voor eenmalig gebruik
De fusten zijn niet-herbruikbaar en ongeschikt om opnieuw te vullen. Na gebruik van de fusten zullen
deze zoals in de handleiding aangegeven drukloos gemaakt moeten worden en klaargemaakt voor
recycling.
Laat de fusten niet (om)vallen, (om)rollen of anderszins een flinke klap incasseren
De fusten staan onder druk en zijn niet geschikt om harde klappen op te vangen. Er bestaat een
mogelijkheid dat het fust uiteen klapt op het moment dat deze een flinke stoot krijgt bij verkeerd
vervoer/verkeerde stapeling/verkeerd gebruik en het fust en deze bijvoorbeeld omvalt.
Gebruik professioneel aansluit- en tapmateriaal
De fusten zijn uitgerust met een standaard A aansluiting (schuifkop). Deze is volledig compatibel met
bestaande tapinstallaties, onder voorbehoud van het feit dat de temperatuur en drukregeling
worden gerespecteerd en de wettelijk vereiste veiligheidsvoorzieningen aanwezig zijn op de
installatie(s).
Laat de druk van lege vaten zo snel mogelijk af
In de handleiding vind u exact hoe u dit moet doen, via het geïntegreerde drukventiel. Doe dit alleen
in een goed geventileerde ruimte of buiten in verband met het vrijkomen van CO2 gas. Zorg ook altijd
dat er niemand in de afblaasstroom van het gas staat.
Opslagtemperatuur van de vaten:
De vaten kunnen functioneren tussen 0ºC en 35ºC, tussen deze temperaturen blijft het fust op de
juiste druk. onder de 0ºC en boven de 35ºC zal de druk zodanig verschillen van de juiste dat het
gebruik van de fusten niet verantwoord is. Ook zal de kwaliteit van het bier sterk afnemen bij een te
lage of te hoge temperatuur. Houd dus de fusten ook weg uit direct zonlicht of andere warmte- of
koudebronnen!
Sluit alleen een fust aan indien er een geschikte drukregelaar/ontspanner aangesloten is
Zet nooit overdruk op het fust!
Knoei niet met de steekstang of vatennek
Gooi of stoot niet opzettelijk met het fust of op de steekstang of vatennek
Houd fusten weg uit de buur van reinigingsproducten
Deze kunnen een chemische brosheid veroorzaken met een barst in het fust tot gevolg.
De fusten niet reinigen, herstellen, onderhouden of hergebruiken!
Fusten nooit doorprikken of insnijden
Dit kan levensgevaarlijke situaties opleveren.
De fusten niet verzwakken en/of verbranden
Het fust mag niet opgewarmd/verhit worden omdat dit de druk in het vat zal opdrijven met een barst
in het fust tot gevolg.
Nooit op gestapelde vaten klimmen of de vaten gebruiken als opstapje of enigerlei andere
constructie
Verzeker u ervan dat iedereen die met de fusten in aanraking komt weet wat het gevaar is van CO2
en hoe zij veilig moeten werken met de Dolium® fusten

Technical
What is the maximum working pressure?
The maximum working pressure is 3.5 bar (50 psi) which is equal to stainless steel kegs.
The Dolium kegs remain functional up to 5.0 bar. The Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) opens at 5.2 bar (+/0.2). For more details see PRV.
What is the shelf life of the beverage in the keg?
The technical shelf life, in compliance with the brewer’s specifications, is proven to be 6 months. This is
equal to stainless steel kegs.
What is the difference between PET, PE and HDPE ?
PET : Polyethylene terephthalate is resin used for injection stretch blow moulding of bottles and
containers for food and beverage. This is the basic resin for the Dolium keg body.
HD-PE : High Density Polyethylene is a resin used for injection moulding of plastic parts. This is the basic
resin for the Dolium keg’s top and bottom.
What is the O2 intake and the CO2 loss ?
The Dolium body is composed of Invista® PET Polyshield® blended with 5% of MXD6 Polyamide.
The polyshield component contains the oxygen (O2) active barrier, keeping the oxygen away from the
product, whilst the MXD6 Polyamide is responsible for blocking the CO2 from leaving the keg.
The average loss of CO2 is 0.05gr/30L/month. For the oxygen content present in the keg over time please
refer the graph below.
Does the keg have UV protection?
The monolayer keg wall is blended with a specific amber colour which is protecting beer in the frequency
range of 300-450 nm which is the UV sensitive range for hops resulting in light struck off-flavours.
What is the maximum temperature and pressure a Dolium one-way keg can hold ?

What keg volumes are available?
Dolium kegs are available in 30 liter (7.93 US gallons) and 20 liter (5.28 US gallons) volumes
What fittings are available? How do I connect my keg coupler to the keg?
Dolium kegs are equipped with either:
- S type spear = Sankey , well type or European Sankey type
- A type spear = Alumasc, Flat type
- G type spear = Grundy, Trilobe

For all spear types the connection process is equivalent to stainless steel kegs.
Will the Dolium keg fit on my filling line?
The Dolium kegs have run on manual, semi-automatic, full-automatic, in-line and rotative filling lines.
Each filling line can differ from another. We can provide you with more technical details.
Dolium can also provide samples for qualifying brewers for testing purposes.

Do the pubs require any extra equipment when using a Dolium keg? Do I need a special keg coupler
for Dolium one-way kegs?
No. You can replace a stainless steel keg instantly with a Dolium keg with same fitting type.
Do I need to clean the keg before filling?
No internal cleaning required. Our customers receive clean and sealed kegs. The Dolium keg is assembled
by use of clean and sterile components in a clean room environment.
We recommend to rinse the outer spear parts by use of hot water (85 degrees C for 2 seconds) or clean
water (peracetic acid or chlorine dioxide) prior to opening the valve system.
Do I need to flush the kegs before filling?
Yes. Our customers receive CO2 pre-flushed and CO2 pressurized kegs. Dolium guarantees a CO2
concentration above 90%. Therefore a final CO2 flush is required on the filling line prior to filling equal to
practice with stainless steel kegs.
Do I have to adjust the filling speed of the Dolium keg vs. Stainless steel kegs?
No, the Dolium kegs have run on manual, semi-automatic, full-automatic, in-line and rotative filling lines
at filling speeds equivalent to Stainless steel kegs.
How can I manually fill the kegs? Can these kegs also be hand-filled right-up or can they only be
filled upside down (on a filling line)?
Dolium kegs can be filled manually in straight up positions or upside down equal to stainless steel. For

What tests or preparation do I need to do before I fill the keg?

Dolium kegs are delivered CO2 pressurised, a pressure test is recommended.
No cleaning or disinfection activity is required.
A CO2 flush is still mandatory prior to filling.
Ensure that Dolium one way PET kegs never get into contact with caustic soda or alkaline “detergent”
solutions (a.o. lye, alkaline chlorine solutions, tensides) as PET is not compatible with these type of
products.
What is the headspace I need to respect in case of a manual filling ?
The Dolium keg is designed for a head space of minimum 2% of the volume.
What is the maximum CO2 pressure to apply during filling ?
High pressures are not needed, please keep the beverage pressure below 3 bar with a minimum pressure
difference of 1 bar between in and out.
Can I put a Dolium one-way keg in a fridge for dispensing?
Yes, the working temperature of the Dolium keg is set between 0C and 35C.

In what time do I need to empty my keg and how long does the beer remains well once the keg has
been opened ?
Equal to stainless steel kegs.
What remains in the keg when it is empty and all beer is out? What do I need to do when my keg is
empty ?
Once the keg has been emptied and disconnected it is still filled with CO2 gas under pressure. Therefore
we recommend to depressurise the keg as soon as possible in a well ventilated area. The depressurisation
procedure is simple and can be be done by turning the Pressure Relief Valve by 90 degrees with a flat head
screwdriver.

Can I cut the plastic with a knife or sharp tool ?
Once the keg is depressurised it can be disassembled in a safe manner.
Can I just put it outside as domestic waste?
Once the keg is depressurised it should be recollected by your distributor for recycling. Never put it
outside as domestic waste.
