Evolution
Packet data has been an important part of CDMA2000 since it was first
released. Since then, 1xEV-DO has increased capacity and performance,
and EV-DO Revision A has added many enhancements to support newly
emerging applications. EV-DO was designed explicitly for easy
deployment on top of existing CDMA2000 networks, with minimal changes
to the core network.
With the introduction of EV-DO Rev. A, several additional options are
available for a user to mix voice and data traffic. EV-DO continues to
evolve and Rev. B enhancements will be described, followed by a
discussion of where Rev. C is headed.
