Create your Contact List Choose your list of people (friends, family, co-workers, church family, etc… people you would invite to your wedding) to practice on first and invite to your business debut. Highlight 5 special women you think would be great associates on your team and invite them to your next meeting. 4. Schedule your Business Debut (or 1st Skin Care Class) Pick a date within 2 weeks to hold your first class. Make an Inventory Decision The decision to have product on hand is a very important one for you and your clients. It is completely optional to have inventory but virtually all consultants start with something. Inventory increases your initial sales by 50%, and saves you time. Mary Kay Inventory You have the choice in Mary Kay to service your customers in one of two manners: Deliver product to your customers as soon as they place their order. You carry product in your home, which you have purchased in advance to sell to your customers. Customers place their product orders to you, and you in turn accumulate orders to place and order to the company to service your customers for the products they need. A decision to purchase inventory depends on two factors: 1. RESOURCES - Do you have the capability to make the purchases? 2. GOALS - What level you choose should depend on your business goals. The single most important issue involved with inventory is that you make a decision that you are happy with, so that you are able to focus on succeeding in your Mary Kay business. Either choose to carry inventory or place orders to the company to service customers, but either way…make a decision and be happy with your decision. Benefits of Having Inventory on Hand Higher Sales Women want their products as soon as they try them. Your sales will be 50% higher if you carry inventory to give immediately to your customers. Less Returns Women do not usually change their mind once they have the product in their hands. If they have to wait for product they can change their mind about their order due to stress, money or husband. Confidence You are more likely to actively work your business if you have product on your shelf. You will feel like a professional and have more confidence in your sales ability. Motivation Your inventory will motivate you to do your business when you lack self-motivation. Product sitting on your shelf will get you out there selling! It’s instant cash!! Profit You will see a profit quicker from carrying inventory. If you have to place orders, it takes longer to see profit. Also, you can see a higher commission level from your sales, since you will need to order less often. Higher Reorders and Less Customer Drop Off If you are able to immediately service your customers once they run out, they will learn to depend on you. If you have to place an order to the company, they may look for another consultant who carries inventory. Less Frustration The consultants who do not carry products tend to get frustrated with their business. Not carrying inventory is one of the most common reasons for a consultant to drop out. Ways to Purchase Inventory 1. Credit Card Loan — Most new consultants put their initial inventory order on a credit card, realizing they are not going into debt, but instead investing for a 50% return. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover all have ways to borrow money. Mary Kay Cosmetics will accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover. You must be sure to have enough available credit on the card to cover your purchase. It is simple to find this out by calling the bank issuing your card and asking what your credit balance is. We recommend you use a separate bank card for your Mary Kay business, if one is available. Remember, if you finance your business using a credit card your interest is TAX DEDUCTABLE! 2. Conventional Loan - This type of loan from a bank will help you establish credit in your own name. If you are married, be sure to get the loan in your name. They prefer loaning larger amounts usually $2,500 to $3,000 minimum. The rates are usually reasonable and there is usually no pre-payment penalty, should you decide to pay your loan off quickly. 3. Passbook Loan — you borrow against the money you have in a savings account. 4. Life Insurance Loan — you can borrow against your life insurance usually at a very low rate of interest. 5. Credit Union Loan — If you are employed and have a Credit Union; or if married, your spouse might have a Credit Union at this place of employment. Credit Unions are traditionally a source of low interest loans. Processing your loan may take 2 to 3 weeks. 6. Mary Kay Bank Visa - Your recruiter can provide you with a credit card application for Mary Kay Bank Visa, a credit card available to you on terms negotiated by Mary Kay Cosmetics. The disadvantage to using this option is that credit approval requires 6 to 8 weeks. We recommend you express mail your application for faster service. 7. Family Loan — many times there are members of your family willing to help you start your career. It is recommended that the arrangement be made on a loan basis where you pay this money back in monthly installations. Co-signers — If you do not have a lengthy credit history or have not been employed long enough, having a cosigner (parent, relative, close friend) may help you qualify. 8. Secured Loan — you can use your automobile, your home, stocks and bonds, certificate of deposit, etc. as collateral. Along with banks, financial institutions such as Beneficial, Morris Plan, Avco, etc. offer a variety of loan packages. 9. Have a garage sale - Other people will pay you good money for items you sell. The good news is that you’ll be able to make $2 for each $1 you put into Mary Kay. 10. Get your Hustle On - Take the 100 Item Challenge (100 items x an average of $10 =$1,000) you can use your sweat equity as a last resource to finance your business.
