Dear Friends, Spring is finally here and within the past few months we have seen many changes around the construction site. Inside, walls are going up giving definition to the space. It’s exciting to visualize what life will be like once staff and your loved ones are occupying the center. Work on the cottages is moving ahead and one unit is, in fact, complete and fully furnished and it is beautiful! This first cottage will become our model and sales office beginning in early July. Landscaping has been a bit slower than anticipated due to the wet weather this spring, but even at that there are the beginning signs of the garden paths; how wonderful it will be when this garden is in full bloom. We have the start of our Memory Support team lined up. In addition to myself as Director of the Memory Support Center at Brecon Village we have – Kelly Adams, Coordinator, Adult Day Services. Kelly has recently worked with the fund development team and transfers to this new role with prior experience managing an adult day center in Colorado. Cindy Lockman, Coordinator, Resident Services. Cindy is joining us as a new face to the Evangelical Homes team and has over 20 years experience in the area of senior services including adult day programs and assisted living communities. Steve Hopkins, Director, Wellness and Physical Health. Steve will be working with the memory support team in a unique role which will blend his current duties as Corporate Director, Wellness and Physical Health with a Brecon campus role coordinating Wellness and Life Enrichment programming across each of our living centers. Julie Sage, Director, Marketing and Sales. Julie is also new to Evangelical Homes and her first task is to fill the Memory Support Center! Julie has been busy reviewing our prior list of contacts and following up with folks. During the month of June we will begin the process of interviewing for our Personal Assistant (universal worker) positions. Mark Your Calendars: The official Grand Opening celebration of the Center is scheduled for September 20th, 2009. More details will follow. As the Memory Support Center moves towards completion, the task of filling the residence and letting the broader community know the scope of services that will be available takes on added importance. Julie comes to Evangelical Homes with over 25 years experience in the senior health and housing industry, most recently as a marketing representative with Sumner on Ridgewood, a continuing care retirement community near Akron, Ohio. The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation has awarded us a grant through the Anna Botsford Bach Fund for Seniors for $23,066 for one year of funding. The grant will allow us to offer Adult Day Services at the Memory Support Center to some participants who do not have the financial resources to pay for the services. We are very grateful for the funding. Even though the Evangelical Home in Saline has been operating since 1974, and Brecon Village has been serving the community since 1999, there are still many people who are not aware of all the programs and services that have been developed in recent years. Julie will help Evangelical Homes tell its story and market the full continuum of services to area seniors. Our Church Ambassadors have $44,700 in support for the naming of the Chapel. Their goal is $50,000, which leaves them only $5,300 away from their goal. The official name of the chapel is Chapel of Memories. “I am excited to be a part of the Evangelical Homes,” Julie noted. “In the short time I have been here, it is evident that there is a strong history and commitment to service that will continue to benefit the community and meet the varied needs of potential clients in a broad range of settings. I look forward to getting to know the people in the area, and helping them know more about Evangelical Homes.” Our campaign is going strong, with over $1,557,000 in gifts and pledges! Thank you everyone for the support and commitment you have made to this project. The Campaign Steering Committee is helping to secure more gifts, which is moving us to our goal. The Public Relations Subcommittee has been very busy with events and promotional items: § Ten Thousand Villages committee shopping event resulted in $218 in support (15% of sales the week of May 3 – 10, with several hundred dollars in items also purchased and donated to the Memory Support Center. § Measure For Measure Concert at the First United Methodist Church resulted in 300 guests and $5900 in net proceeds. § Wine For Your Cause at the Quarter Bistro resulted in 55 guests and $415 in net proceeds. § The Sponsor A Brick program has $17,935 in gifts, and the second order of pavers was placed on June 1st. Those pavers will be installed for the opening of the Center. You may still sponsor bricks, call Becky Pazkowski at 734-429-1155 for more information. The Professional Advisory Group has been busy with program suggestions and asking their colleagues to support the campaign. Business and Corporate Subcommittee is working on gathering support from the business world, which is no easy task these days. However, we are seeing support coming in many different shapes and sizes….some from discounted items for the Center, some in sponsorships for the events, and others in outright gifts. The landscaping project is the newest for this group, as there are many new naming opportunities that range from $750 to $10,000 for the vast landscaping. Also, we have Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts who have chosen landscaping projects for their Silver Award and Eagle Scout projects.
