1 Platform Assembly Overview 21’ Rainier Yurt – General Purpose PLYWOOD decking Rainier Industries offers a choice of 2 types of platforms. The general-purpose version is commonly used for temporary installations. Drawings for platforms requiring structural engineering are available through your Rainier Yurt representative. Layout Plan View / Beams & Blocks only This plan set illustrates the construction of the general-purpose platform. It starts with the layout of the pier-blocks (footings), the installation of the support beams, the installation of the decking and general construction details to add clarity. 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 2 Pier-Block Layout 1) Locate and level the footings as shown. Be sure the cradles are all at the same height. The illustration above assumes a level site. For sloped sites, the layout will be similar but vertical support posts and diagonal bracing will be required to compensate for changes in elevation. See the last 2 pages for illustrations showing how to adapt this layout to a sloped site. Note – Poured concrete footings can be substituted for pier-blocks. Site and soil conditions will dictate the footing size. If substantial footings are poured, tie-down anchors will not be necessary. 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 3 4x6 Joists and Blocking added to Pier-Blocks 2) Cut the 4x6 beams to the lengths indicated on the Layout Plan View drawing and place them in the cradles of the pier-blocks. - Confirm that the centers of the beams are 4’-0” center-to-center. - Secure the beams to pier blocks as necessary 3) Cut the 2x6 Blocking boards to fit and secure them to the beams (as illustrated) - Pre-drill and screw through the ends of the 2x6 blocking into the 4x6 beams Note – If your plans include Tie-down anchors, they should be installed after the beams and blocking are complete but before the decking is installed. See the illustration on page 7. Rainier recommends that all platforms be anchored. 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 4 Illustration of 4’x8’ Tongue & Groove (T&G) Plywood Decking Note – The 21-foot platform is decked with (14) 4’-0” x 8’-0” Tongue & Groove Plywood. Use the layout provided on the next page to install the T&G plywood. Rainier also provides a separate plan for those who wish to use 2” x 6” T&G decking. See www.rainieryurts.com 4) Secure the T&G plywood sheets to the Beams and Perimeter Blocking. 5) Make a compass with a board or string, - Use a nail at the center of the platform and a pencil to mark the perimeter - The radius for the cut will be 10’-4 7/16” (124 7/16”) 6) Cut outside the newly scribed circle (10’-4 7/16”) (diameter 20’-8 7/8”) 7) Screw the 2x6 Tex® “Banding Board” to the blocking and beams where intersections occur. Also screw straight down through the plywood into the 2x6 banding board every 6” all the way around the platform. 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 5 Layout of 4’x8’ Tongue & Groove (T&G) Plywood 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 6 Bill of Materials - T&G Plywood Worksheet Use Floor Beams 4" x 6" Size Quantity Floor Decking #2 or Btr / Framing Spec. For sloped sites you will need to add posts and diagonal braces. See the concept drawing on pages 9 & 10. Rainier recommends that all platforms be anchored. Yurt size, platform height, exposure to prevailing winds, soil conditions, site topography and other conditions will affect the type and quantity of anchors. For that reason anchors are not on this B.O.M. but should be included when supplies are priced and purchased. This B.O.M. is provided as a convenience to assist our customers with determining the cost of their platform. The format allows it to be used as a shopping list. Prices and types of lumber vary by region and supplier. Work with your local building center to establish prices. Note – The B.O.M. includes screws to secure the T&G decking to the beams. Nails can be substituted for the T&G but screws should be used to secure the 2x6 Banding Board. 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 7 Detail 1 / Platform Framing - Plan View Detail 2 / Platform with T&G Plywood–Plan View Detail 3 / Platform Framing & Anchoring – Section View 18435 Olympic Avenue South Seattle, WA (866) 839-8787 rainieryurts.com 8 General Elevation View – Level Site A deck is shown in the view above.
