JuDGE Richard Garrison, an artist based in Raleigh, is well-known to Triangle viewers for canvases that take Bay Area figuration as a point of departure. Broad planes of saturated color and a palpable sense of light are features of his work, to which Garrison has added his own idiosyncratic touches of found paper collage elements and impasto paint handling. Garrison studied at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After receiving his BFA, he continued to teach Art instruction in the Raleigh area. A North Carolina Emerging Artist Recipient, he has exhibited in several North Carolina galleries including his own studio/gallery in downtown Raleigh. Richard has juried shows at the Visual Art Exchange when it was Wake Visual Art Exchange. He is no stranger to the art community, Garrison has commissioned for several corporations such as Bank of America, Capital One and Duke University. Arts of the Albemarle is honored to have an artist of his stature judging this year’s 24th Annual Landmark Competition. www.richardgarrisonart.com Opening Reception Awards will be given at the opening reception on Sunday, September 12, 2010 from 5:30 -7:00 pm at The Center.
