MARRIAGE: Please contact our parish office at least 6 months prior to your scheduled

José Antonio Meléndez Rodríguez
(born January 9,
1962, Rivas, Nicaragua) is a Nicaraguan American guitar
player, composer, singer, and songwriter who was born
without arms. His mother took Thalidomide while pregnant,
which caused his disability. Meléndez has learned to play the
guitar with his feet.
Meléndez began playing and singing in the Los Angeles area
in 1985. On September 15, 1987, Meléndez sang Never Be
the Same while playing the guitar with his feet in a special
performance for than Pope John Paul II. Visibly moved, the
Pope descended from his chair and embraced
Meléndez. The Pope told Meléndez, "My wish to you, is to
continue of giving this hope to all, all the people," which
inspired him. As of 2005, his band, Tony Meléndez and the
Toe Jam Band, has a busy concert schedule. Meléndez gives
motivational talks and has written a book. He campaigns
actively for the pro-life cause.

At Pentecost, the Spirit
made the apostles go forth
from themselves and turned
them into heralds of God’s wondrous deeds, capable of
speaking to each person in his or her own language. The
Holy Spirit also grants the courage to proclaim the newness
of the Gospel with boldness (parrhesía) in every time and
place, even when it meets with opposition. Let us call upon
him today, firmly rooted in prayer, for without prayer all
our activity risks being fruitless and our message empty.
Jesus wants evangelizers who proclaim the good news not
only with words, but above all by a life transfigured by
God’s presence. Whenever we say that something is
“spirited”, it usually refers to some interior impulse which
encourages, motivates, nourishes and gives meaning to our
individual and communal activity. Spirit-filled evangelization
is not the same as a set of tasks dutifully carried out despite
one’s own personal inclinations and wishes. How I long to
find the right words to stir up enthusiasm for a new chapter
of evangelization full of fervor, joy, generosity, courage,
boundless love and attraction! Yet I realize that no words of
encouragement will be enough unless the fire of the Holy
Spirit burns in our hearts. A spirit-filled evangelization is
one guided by the Holy Spirit, for he is the soul of the
Church called to proclaim the Gospel... I once more invoke
the Holy Spirit. I implore him to come
and renew the Church, to stir and impel
her to go forth boldly to evangelize all
peoples.

DOMINGO DE PENTECOSTÉS
Primera Lectura: Hechos 2:1-11
En la fiesta de pentecostés, los discípulos se
reunieron cuando diferentes lenguas de fuego
descansaban sobre ellos, y se llenaron con el
Espíritu Santo. Empezaron a hablar en
muchas lenguas. Aquellos que los escucharon
se sorprendieron mucho.
Segunda Lectura: 1 Corintios 12:3b-7, 12-13
Pablo les dice a los corintios que cada uno posee diferentes
dones y lleva a cabo diferentes ministerios, pero que cada uno
trabaja para el bien común en Jesucristo.
Evangelio: San Juan 20:19-23
Jesús se les apareció a los apóstoles después de su resurrección
y les otorgó el poder de perdonar los pecados.
El tiempo pascual, tiempo de gracia,
termina con la fiesta de Pentecostés, en
que la Iglesia revive el derramamiento del
Espíritu Santo sobre María y los Apóstoles
reunidos en oración en el Cenáculo.
Pero, ¿quién es el Espíritu Santo? En
el Credo profesamos con fe: «Creo en el
Espíritu Santo que es Señor y da la vida».
La primera verdad a la que nos adherimos en el Credo es que el Espíritu Santo
es «Kyrios», Señor. Esto significa que Él es verdaderamente Dios como lo es
el Padre y el Hijo, objeto, por nuestra parte, del mismo acto de adoración y
glorificación que dirigimos al Padre y al Hijo. El Espíritu Santo, en efecto, es
la tercera Persona de la Santísima Trinidad; es el gran don de Cristo
Resucitado que abre nuestra mente y nuestro corazón a la fe en Jesús como
Hijo enviado por el Padre y que nos guía a la amistad, a la comunión con
Dios.
Pero quisiera detenerme sobre todo en el hecho de que el Espíritu Santo es el
manantial inagotable de la vida de Dios en nosotros. El hombre de todos los
tiempos y de todos los lugares desea una vida plena y bella, justa y buena, una
vida que no esté amenazada por la muerte, sino que madure y crezca hasta su
plenitud. El hombre es como un peregrino que, atravesando los desiertos de
la vida, tiene sed de un agua viva fluyente y fresca, capaz de saciar en
profundidad su deseo profundo de luz, amor, belleza y paz. Todos sentimos
este deseo. Y Jesús nos dona esta agua viva: esa agua es el Espíritu Santo, que
procede del Padre y que Jesús derrama en nuestros corazones. «Yo he venido
para que tengan vida y la tengan abundante», nos dice Jesús (Jn 10, 10).
Jesús promete a la Samaritana dar un «agua viva», superabundante y para
siempre, a todos aquellos que le reconozcan como el Hijo enviado del Padre
para salvarnos (cf. Jn 4, 5-26; 3, 17). Jesús vino para donarnos esta «agua viva»
que es el Espíritu Santo, para que nuestra vida sea guiada por Dios, animada
por Dios, nutrida por Dios. Cuando decimos que el cristiano es un hombre
espiritual entendemos precisamente esto: el cristiano es una persona que
piensa y obra según Dios, según el Espíritu Santo. Pero me pregunto: y
nosotros, ¿pensamos según Dios? ¿Actuamos según Dios? ¿O nos dejamos
guiar por otras muchas cosas que no son precisamente Dios? Cada uno de
nosotros debe responder a esto en lo profundo de su corazón.

José Antonio Meléndez Rodríguez, más conocido como Tony
Meléndez (nacio 9 de enero de 1962) es un guitarrista,
compositor y cantante nicaragüense. Célebre por su habilidad al
tocar la guitarra con los pies. Un medicamento recetado por
orden médica a su madre durante el embarazo, el medicamento
se llama Talidomida, debía calmar los efectos de náusea del
primer semestre de embarazo, pero sus efectos dejaron graves
consecuencias: al igual que a él, el fármaco provocó que miles
de niños nacieran con deformidades, sin brazos, sin pies.
Debido a las precarias condiciones de salud que existían en los
países centroamericanos en los años sesenta, la familia
Meléndez decide trasladarse a los Estados Unidos de América.
Durante muchos años la familia tuvo que acomodarse a una
forma de vivir con ciertas limitaciones materiales. Tony jugó
fútbol (soccer) en la secundaria de chino, no tuvo limitaciones
durante sus estudios secundarios, y detestaba sus brazos
artificiales, los cuales, más de alguna vez, fueron a parar en un
cubo de la basura. Fue su padre quien le dio sus primeras
lecciones de guitarra y aquella vieja guitarra española que
perteneció a su progenitor es uno de sus más preciados tesoros.
Es famosa su interpretación ante 6.000 jóvenes en el Universal
Amphitheater de Los Ángeles el 15 de septiembre de 1987,
para el Papa Juan Pablo II. Después de que Tony terminara de
interpretar el tema Never be the same, el Papa sorpresivamente
saltó del escenario, se acercó a la plataforma donde se
encontraba lo besó y lo felicitó. Las palabras del Papa fueron
las siguientes: “Tony, eres verdaderamente un joven muy
valiente. Estás dando esperanza a todos nosotros. Mi deseo
para ti, es que continúes dando esperanza a todo el mundo”.
Hasta el día de hoy radica en los Estados Unidos, en la ciudad
de Branson MO, llevando una ocupada agenda de conciertos y
charlas motivacionales que han sido acompañadas de la
redacción de un libro: "A Gift Of Hope" ("Un regalo de
esperanza"), escrito en inglés, hoy traducido al castellano.
Escribió también un libro titulado No me digas que no Puedes.
Está casado, su esposa Lynn y sus dos hijos son su mayor
inspiración.

Avez-vous déjà remarqué le regard de quelqu’un qui a la Foi, je veux dire la
vraie Foi, celle qui manifeste la Présence qui va au-delà de n’importe quelle
croyance ? Une telle personne rayonne la lumière et l’amour, son regard lumineux, brillant, pur parle tout seul. Croisez un tel regard, et vous vous sentez
ravivé, éclairé par je ne sais quoi… Sans un mot vous pouvez être touché au
plus profond. Je parle pas de ces Etres, qui ont pour la plupart vécu de grandes
épreuves, mais ne se plaignent pas, leur Foi les a nourri, les a aidé à accepter, à
pardonner. Ils ont su trouver en eux la Force, une Force d’Amour qui peut
faire des miracles et dépasser tout type d’obstacle. Ce sont souvent des gens
simples avec un grand cœur, Ils nous aident à nous rappeler ce qu’est l’Essentiel. En voici un exemple extraordinaire, Tony Melendez Je suis né au Nicaragua, mais j’ai vécu aux États Unis presque toute ma vie. Je suis un chanteur et
un guitariste. Nous sommes venus ici parce que j’étais un enfant sans bras et la
médecine du Nicaragua n’était pas très avancée. Je suis né comme ça à cause
d’un médicament, la thalidomine, qui a été donné à ma mère quand elle était
enceinte de moi.
C’est pour ça que je n’ai pas de bras. Au début, j’étais si jeune que je ne comprenais pas que je n’avais pas de bras. Un peu plus vieux, les autres enfants
criaient « Il n’a pas de bras, il n’a pas de bras ! » Cela me faisait mal au cœur, ça
me blessait beaucoup. Depuis tout jeune j’ai dû apprendre à utiliser mes pieds.
Je voulais me débrouiller tout seul : j’écrivais, je jouais, je faisais tout avec mes
deux pieds. Dieu m’a donné la Force. Dieu m’a donné à ma famille. Dieu m’a
donné la musique. Avec ma musique, je me sens bien, connecté avec Mon
Dieu. Elle m’aide à grandir et à calmer le cœur. Les gens me demandent
« Tony, comment peux-tu te sentir si bien ? » « Parce que j’ai ces pieds qui font
tout pour moi, j’ai une famille qui est précieuse et mon cœur qui veut danser,
qui veut chanter… qui veut vivre… parce qu’aux yeux de Mon Dieu, je suis
entier ! » ... « Tu es Mon Dieu et en Toi je mets ma confiance ; Mon amour
pour toi ne finira jamais » Tony, tu es vraiment un jeune homme courageux. Tu
nous donnes espérance à tous et je te souhaite de continue à donner cette espérance à Tout le monde ! » Sa sainteté Jean Paul II Dieu a toujours été dans ma
vie. Et ce moment avec le Saint-Père, c’est comme s’Il m’avait dit : « Tony, tu
dois travailler, tu dois chanter, tu dois aider. Tu dois être Mes Pieds, Mon Cœur
et aussi Mes Mains » ; et j’ai commencé à voyager, à chanter et à parler aux
jeunes du monde. Je vois une personne comme toi qui a des bras, des pieds, qui

Le Gala de levée de fonds au profit de l’église, le 25 mai dernier, a réussi
avec succès. Nous remercions tous ceux qui, d’une façon ou d’une autre, y
ont contribué spécialement vous autres qui avez honoré cette soirée de
votre présence. Nous avons collecté la somme de vingt-cinq mille cent
cinquante dollars ($25,150.00).

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Breathe into me Holy Spirit, That all my thoughts may be holy. Move in
me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy
Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I
may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I always may be
holy. Spirit of wisdom and understanding, enlighten our minds to perceive
the mysteries of the universe in relation to eternity. Spirit of right judgment
and courage, guide us and make us firm in our baptismal decision to follow
Jesus' way of love. Spirit of knowledge and reverence, help us to see the
lasting value of justice and mercy in our everyday dealings with one
another. May we respect life as we work to solve problems of family and
nation, economy and ecology. Spirit of God, spark our faith, hope and love
into new action each day. Fill our lives with wonder and awe in your
presence which penetrates all creation. Amen.
