Mondial Cabaret

lobal Cabaret is a
two-actor show which
draws on the tradition
of popular cabaret music,
singing,
dancing,
magic
tricks, and burlesque and
masked comedy to present
a take on contemporary
life. A stage reduced to its
most simple form. On one

side, an unsmiling master
of ceremonies. On the other
side, a multitalented music
hall artist. In one corner, an
old gramophone ; facing it,
an electric guitar. Antique
lamps. A laptop. Tradition
and innovation alongside each
other. The hour will twist and
turn in an unpredictable way,
according to the whims of
the two characters. Often
funny, sometimes moving,
their interaction will be
defined by jealousy, jokes,
fights and fellowship. Of
course, like in any cabaret
show, there will be music,
comedy, and magic. But
here, nothing will
happen as expected. Songs
will be interrupted, sketches
will deviate, and the magic
will appear uninvited. This
performance is empowered
by beautiful voices, and
comedians

U
n avocat réputé est retrouvé sans vie à cheval
sur la frontière entre le Québec et l’Ontario.
Du coup, les corps policiers des deux provinces
sont forcés de mener l’enquête conjointement.
Malgré leurs réticences initiales, les détectives
David Bouchard et Martin Ward, aux antipodes
sur tous les plans, s’attaquent à leur mission avec
diligence. Les méthodes peu orthodoxes du premier
ne font pas toujours l’affaire du second.

billboard of the border between Quebec
and Ontario. Police forces from two provinces are
forced to lead a joint investigation into the causes
of death. Despite their initial differences detectives
David Bouchard and Martin Ward, undertake
their mission with diligence. The unorthodox
procedures of the first do not please the second.

’est une histoire de cœur. Celui d’Edmond n’est
plus très solide. Mais il bat au rythme d’une
indépendance farouche, celle qui lui fait refuser
l’idée même d’entrer en maison de retraite, celle
qui le pousse à refuser les soins de Rose, qu’on lui
envoie comme infirmière à domicile. Papy fait de
la résistance? La jeune femme lui tient tête. Elle
sait le tumulte qui saisit un cœur quand il faut
accepter l’inacceptable. Le sien n’est pas encore
remis. Un jour, une mauvaise chute oblige Edmond
à accepter l’aide de Rose.

Les fiancées de l’Amérique

F
iancées de l’Amérique est un film de personnages
qui se rencontrent l’espace de quelques jours.
Deux familles, l’une vit en Roumanie, l’autre
en Amérique, sont unies par l’amitié fictive
qu’entretiennent deux femmes. Maria, devenue
entrepreneuse en cosmétique aux États-Unis et
suspectée déserteuse par la Securitate (la police
secrète de la Roumanie communiste), retrouve
Rodica, maintenant mariée avec Radu, l’ex-fiancé
de Maria.
Les personnages sont riches, complets, intéressants,
et qui plus est, sont joués de façon magistrale par
les acteurs dans un décor champêtre. Un véritable
bijou du cinéma roumain.

our réaliser le rêve de son grand-père,
Honza, un escroc sympathique et intelligent,
accompagné par son ami Jirka, réunit l›argent
nécessaire pour un voyage un peu spécial en
Argentine. Leur projet de vente de la vigne de
son grand-père vole en éclats une fois que les deux
hommes s’exposent à l’environnement calm et
séduisant de la région viticole de la Moravie de sud.

his is a story of the heart. Edmond’s is no
longer strong. But it still beats with an
independence which fights against the very
idea of entering a retirement home, while
at the same time refusing help from Rose,
his home carer. Nonetheless she stands up
to him. She knows the tumult that a heart
undergoes when it is forced to accept the
unacceptable. Hers hasn’t yet healed. One
day however, a bad fall forces Edmond to
accept Rose’s support.

Bobule - The Grapes
he movie presents a history of love, friendship
and betrayal during the former communist
regime in Romania. Three very close friends become
separated due to strange reasons. Mary, an air
hostess, leaves for the United States of America
after breaking up with her fiancé Radu, a TAROM
pilot, Radu, betrays her with her close friend Sanda
(an air hostess also). Mary returns to Romania and
learns of the reasons why she was betrayed by her
fiancé. The discovery of the truth will be extremely
harsh for everyone but especially for Mary who had
become subject of a diabolical plan, orchestrated
by her close friend Sanda, with the complicity of
Romanian secret service- SECURITATE (to which
she was a collaborator).

n order to put the dream of his grandfather into
life, Honza, an intelligent and likable swindler,
accompanied by his friend Jirka, accumulate money
for a special trip to Argentina. However, their
intention to sell grandfather’s vineyard collapses
once the two are exposed to the calm and seductive
environment of the wine-growing region of the
southern Moravia.

orsque le notaire Lebel (Rémy Girard)
fait à Jeanne et Simon Marwan (Mélissa
Désormeaux-Poulin et Maxim Gaudette)
la lecture du testament de leur mère Nawal
(Lubna Azabal), les jumeaux sont sidérés
de se voir remettre deux enveloppes, l’une
destinée à un père qu’ils croyaient mort et
l’autre à un frère dont ils ignoraient l’existence.
Jeanne voit dans cet énigmatique legs la clé du
silence de Nawal, enfermée dans un mutisme
inexpliqué lors des dernières semaines avant
sa mort. Elle décide immédiatement de partir
au Moyen-Orient exhumer le passé de cette
famille dont elle ne sait presque rien.

Mia et le Migou

ia est une fillette d’à peine dix ans. Alertée par
un pressentiment, elle décide de quitter son
village natal quelque part en Amérique du Sud pour
partir à la recherche de son père. Ce dernier travaille
sur un chantier gigantesque visant à transformer une
forêt tropicale en luxueuse résidence hôtelière. La
route est longue pour retrouver son papa. Mia doit
franchir une lointaine montagne, entourée d’une
forêt énigmatique et peuplée d’êtres mystérieux. Au
coeur de ce monde de légende, la fillette découvre un
arbre hors du commun et se confronte aux véritables
forces de la nature. Une expérience extraordinaire...

Jeanne and Simon Marwan (Mélissa DésormeauxPoulin, Maxime Gaudette) to read them their mother’s
will Nawal (Lubna Azabal), the twins are stunned to
receive a pair of envelopes – one for the father they
thought was dead and another for a brother they
didn’t know existed. She immediately decides to go to
the Middle East to dig into a family history of which
she knows next to nothing. Simon is unmoved by the
mind games of a mother who was always distant and
cold. With Lebel’s help, the twins piece together the
story of the woman who brought them into the world,
discovering a tragic fate forever marked by war and
hatred as well as the courage of an exceptional woman.

Y
van, dealer de voitures vintage, la quarantaine
colérique, surprend le jeune Elie en train de le
cambrioler. Pourtant, il ne lui casse pas la gueule.
Au contraire, il se prend d’une étrange affection
pour lui et accepte de le ramener chez ses parents
au volant de sa vieille Chevrolet.
Commence alors le curieux voyage de deux bras
cassés à travers un pays magnifique, mais tout
aussi déjanté.
athieu spends his days as a lollypop man, helping
children cross the road and trying not to be drunk
on the job. One day, fate happens and Mathieu stupidly
causes an accident. This would cause him lose his job
so he pleads with Marc, (the other guy involved in the
accident) to release him of any blame. But Marc, a police
equipment salesman, is over his head with problems.
He faces a nasty divorce lawsuit and a total bankruptcy.
Marc hopes to score one major coup i.e sell his stock of
750 NYC flashlights to the national police and get his
life back. That weekend, his wife robs him of his car
and his credit cards bounce. Mathieu proposes to help
Marc as long as he takes the blame for the accident.
Marc and Mathieu’s journey into the Ardennes is a tale
of love lost and friendship won.

van and Elie are two loners who wander
aimlessly through their lives. Yvan is a
short-tempered 40-year-old vintage car dealer
while Elie is a young burglar and ex-junkie.
One day Yvan catches Elie trying to rob him.
Instead of beating him up, he becomes strangely
attached to him and agrees to drive him home
to his parents in his old Chevrolet. Yvan and
Elie are both nostalgic about lost relationships,
which is what leads them to undertake a bizarre
journey through a region that is as spectacular
as it is crazy. Both are trying to find the pieces
of a puzzle that they want to put back together,
but it might be too late.

Rêves de poussière - Dreams of Dust
Un Homme Qui Crie - A Screaming Man
C
e long métrage traite à la fois de la déchéance
physique et sociale d’un homme et de sa douleur
de père dans un pays miné par la guerre et transformé
par la mondialisation. Adam, la soixantaine, ancien
champion de natation est maitre nageur de la piscine
d’un hôtel de luxe à N’Djamena. Lors du rachat de
l’hôtel par des repreneurs chinois, il doit laisser la
place à son fils Abdel. Il vit très mal cette situation
qu’il considère comme une déchéance sociale.
Le pays est en proie à la guerre civile et les rebelles
armés menacent le pouvoir. Le gouvernement, en
réaction, fait appel à la population pour un “effort
de guerre” exigeant d’eux argent ou enfant en âge de
combattre les assaillants.

ne usine quelque part en Picardie. Après un
plan social, les ouvrières sont sur le qui-vive
mais ce jour-là, le directeur les convoque pour leur
faire une petite surprise : des blouses neuves avec
leur prénom brodé… Un cadeau qui rassure tout
le monde. L’espoir revient. Le lendemain matin c’est
la consternation : l’usine a été déménagée pendant
la nuit et la direction est en fuite. Réunies dans un
café, la déléguée syndicale annonce aux ouvrières le
montant de leurs indemnités : 2000 euros chacune.
Scandalisées mais réalistes, elles décident de mettre
cet argent en commun pour financer un projet de
reconversion. Plusieurs idées sont lancées en l’air,
sans grand enthousiasme. Louise, la plus sauvage
de toutes, prend enfin la parole. Elle a une idée à la
fois faisable et abordable : faire buter le patron par
un professionnel ! L’accord est unanime et Louise est
chargée de trouver un tueur à gages. Elle va choisir le
plus minable de sa génération : Michel.Ensemble, ils
partent à la recherche du patron voyou

hat to do when the workers of a factory
have been laid off overnight? Louise has
an original idea: why not pool the compensation
money to ... hire a hit man and to liquidate
the boss? Motion accepted so Louise goes in
search of the gem they need and unfortunately
comes across Michel, a stinky security specialist.
Michel, who is busted, gladly accepts the deal
but proves so inept that he sub-contracts the
job to improbable novices. Moreover, as the
factory was a mere branch of a multinational
company, it is no bed of roses to find the one
who actually made the decision to outsource its
activities. But Louise will not give up so easily

The country is in the throes of a civil war.
Rebel forces are attacking the government.
The authorities demand that the population
contribute to the “war effort”, giving money or
volunteers old enough to fight off the assailants.
The District Chief constantly harasses Adam
for his contribution. But Adam is penniless;
he only has his son

legendary figures of world music and employs
together such Zairian archetypes as the charming
trickster, the impotent husband, the neglected
wife, the ingenue, and the diviner in a rags
to riches story of a poor rural musician who
finally gets his big break on television. This lively
farce illustrates Zairians’ faith in Systeme-D or
debrouillardise -- the art of husting to survive.
In Kinshasa, our hero uses his wit and talent to
win a beautiful wife, trick his greedy boss and
finally sing his theme song, “La Vie Est Belle,”
on national television. The infectious spirit
and affirmation of life in the face of seemingly
overwhelming obstacles capture one of the most
delightful aspects of contemporary African life.
