Wakizashi Hanover is "Freaky" Good Again
By Bill Finley
In a race that pitted brother-versus-brother and
star-versus-star, there was a lot of hype coming into last
night's Jennas Beach Boy at Hoosier Park. In the end,
though, it wasn't much of a race. W akizashi Hanover took
care of that.
Indiana-bred star Freaky Feet Pete tried his best in his
first tilt on the Grand Circuit, but he was no match last night
for W akizashi Hanover in the $110,250 Jenna's Beach Boy.
With Tim Tetrick beating little brother Trace, W akizashi won
by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:48.4.
planet.
The other story was the battle of the Brothers Tetrick, as
Tim drove W akizashi and Trace drove Freaky Feet Pete.
The betting public knew it would be one or the other,
making Pete the 3-5 favorite and W akizashi the 6-5 second
choice. The next lowest price on any other horse in the
race was the 50-1 on Camturo Rock.
Trace took the initiative off the gate, gunning Freaky Feet
Pete from the nine post while Tim settled into a two-hole
trip. It seemed at times as if they were the only two in the
race. Tim waited patiently, didn't tip out until mid-stretch,
and then sat back in the bike as his mount blew past
Freaky Feet.
"Freaky Feet Pete is a good horse," said W akizashi's
co-owner Bruce Kennedy. "W hen you're dealing in harness
racing anything can happen in a race and when your
opponent has a record like Freaky Feet Pete had you can't
take it lightly. W e knew he was a dangerous horse.
"The fact that he won wasn't a big surprise. Timmy left
just enough to tell the other horse you're not going to get
there cheap. Then they both tried to set the pace for their
own horses. Timmy has always been very confident with
our horse."

It was a big night at Hoosier, where another highlight was
still another win by Bee A Magician over the boys, this time
in the Centaur Trotting Classic.
Even though he was nowhere near Hoosier last night,
Wiggle It Jiggleit was part of the story in the Jennas Beach
Boy. W akizashi
Hanover is one of
only two horses to
have ever beaten
him and W iggle It
Jiggleit is the only
horse that had
beaten Freaky Feet
this year. That
made last night's
race more or less a
battle to see who is

W akizashi Hanover is now 10 for 16 on the year and
might be in line for a Dan Patch Award if not for the fact
that W iggle It Jiggleit is out there. It's not clear when the
two will meet again. W iggle It Jiggleit is headed to Hoosier
to face Freaky Feet Pete in the Indiana sire stakes finals on
Oct. 10. Meanwhile, Kennedy said the Oct. 6 Keystone
Classic at The Meadows will be next for their horse.
W akizashi Hanover is being pointed for the Breeders
Crown, while W iggle It Jiggleit's connections say they are
leaning against supplementing into that race.
As for Bee A Magician, she seems to be more machine
than horse. Last night was her 61st career start and her
41st career win. She's clearly the top older trotter in the
sport, males included.
The only thing different for her last night was the
presence of a new driver. Brian Sears elected to drive at
Yonkers in the New York sire stakes finals, so Dave Miller
picked up the assignment. Sears will eb back for her next
race.
Perhaps keeping in mind that Bee A Magician has a huge
race coming up in the Oct. 10 Yonkers International, Miller
was content to let the daughter of Kadabra do her own
thing. She didn't really gear up until the final turn and when
she did she swept past Gural Hanover. W ind Of the North
made somewhat of a race of it late with a late move, but
Bee A Magcian held on to win comfortably, by 1 ½ lengths.
The time was 1:53.

"She's an amazing horse," Miller said. "She overcame a
bad post (No. 9) and got the job done. It's not easy for
these mares to keep racing the boys. They are bigger and
stronger and she's one of the few that can keep beating
them."
Second choice Natural Herbie, also International-bound,
showed nothing, finishing eighth.
The first of the night's stakes races resulted in a minor
upset as Sunset Glider beat 2-5 favorite W omans W ill by a
half-length for the Takter-Gingras combination in the
$207,300 Kentucky Stallion Management for 2-year-old
trotting fillies. The race drew just five horses. Sunset Gilder
led throughout.
Indiana-bred Topville Cadillac won a division of the
Kentucky Stallion Management for 2-year-old pacing fillies,
with Call Me Queen Be winning the other. Call Me Queen
Be was driven by Scott Zeron, who came right back and
won the Elevation for 2-year-old pacing colts with American
Passport. Trainer Tony Alagna finished one-two in the race
with Mindtrip rounding out the exacta. Both were maidens
coming into the race.

Undefeated Travel Playlist Providing Early
Return on Investment
By Tom Pedulla
YONKERS, NY - Tom Grossman of high-powered Blue
Chip Farms knows talent when he sees it, and that led him
to join several others in making a recent investment in
undefeated Travel Playlist. If only the stock market offered
such swift and encouraging returns.
Travel Playlist, in his first race since the new ownership
group was announced on Tuesday, provided an early and
impressive return by storming home a convincing winner of
the Genesee Valley Farm Pace New York Sire Stakes Final
for 2-year-old colts and geldings on Saturday night at
Yonkers Raceway. He extended his perfection to 5 for 5.
His sizzling performance as he overcame post seven in a
field of seven
highlighted New
York’s Night of
Champions for
2-year-old trotters and
pacers. Each of the
four New York Sire
Stakes Finals carried
a hefty 225,000 purse.

2-year-old fillies for
her sixth victory. Allerage Echo capitalized on an early
break by previously undefeated Dayson to take the
Allerage Farm Trot for colts and geldings. Dime A Dance,
one of three Ron Burke trainees in the W inbak Farm Pace
for 2-year-old fillies, rattled off her fourth consecutive
victory for Burke.
But it was Travel Playlist and the investment made in the
very fast son of Art Major that created the greatest buzz
during the second and last New York Night of Champions
after 3-year-olds were in the spotlight two weeks ago.

Ronald Michelon remains the majority owner of Travel
Playlist but agreed to move into what appears to be a
blindingly bright future with Grossman’s Blue Chip Farms,
Taylor Made Stallions, and Fred W . Hertrich’s All-American
Harnessbreds.
“W e’re looking to hit the lottery and have a stallion like
the father,” said Grossman. He raced and stands Art Major,
a winner of more than $2.7 million in his brilliant career.
“W e are certainly interested in all of his offspring and
watch them very closely,” Grossman said. “This is, by far,
the most interesting 2-year-old out of this horse in many,
many years.”
Travel Playlist was confidently driven by Marcus Miller,
who took command early. They withstood a demanding
opening quarter of 26.2 and pulled away as they spun out
of the final turn for home. His new owners all but expected
such domination when they dug deep into their wallets to
claim a financial stake in the bay colt. Terms of the
agreement were not announced.
“W e paid for him assuming he had a real shot to be a top
3-year-old and sire,” Grossman said.
Grossman said the newcomers to the Travel Playlist
bandwagon will serve as “advisers and cheerleaders” while
Erv Miller, who remains as the trainer, plots a course that
they hope will lead to the Breeders Crown.
“He’s still got a lot to prove,” Grossman said. “Obviously,
he’s a very talented, fast horse and, if he’s tough like his
father, he will keep doing this.”
Non Stick is another youngster with a long road ahead in
his racing career and much to prove. But Jeffrey Gural, one
of his owners, is so pleased with him that he was delighted
the other day when he came upon a bill that was higher
than expected. The bill reflected a 50 percent share in the
daughter of Lucky Chucky, double the percentage he
thought he owned.
Gural can be forgiven his confusion. He has a fair amount
going on at all times as owner of Meadowlands Racetrack
in East Rutherford, N.J., not to mention his assorted
owning and breeding interests.
Gural said his visit to Yonkers, a rival track, was
nonetheless a bit nostalgic. “I spent a lot of the years of my
youth at Yonkers Raceway,” he said. “It’s nice to come
back here and have a little luck.”
Gural thought the latest of Non Stick’s six victories was
arguably the most impressive. “I thought this was a good
test,” he said. “She’s undefeated, but she’s been drawing
the easy division.”
Non Stick assumed an early lead and was never
seriously threatened. Gural gave much of the credit to
trainer Ake Svanstedt and commended his choice of driver
Daniel Dube, who knows the intricacies of the half-mile oval
at Yonkers.
“It’s always a smart move when you come to a track like
this to have somebody who knows his way around,” Gural
said.
In the race before Non Stick kept his unblemished record
intact, Gural rooted home Allerage Echo as the breeder of
that horse. Allerage Echo, a bay gelding by Conway Hall,
won for the fifth time in nine starts with a pair of runner-up
finishes.
Afterward, George Ducharme, his trainer, announced that
Allerage Echo’s 2-year-old campaign was over. “That’s it,
the last start for the year,” he said. “It’s been a long year.
It’s time to get him some rest.”
Ducharme is
confident he has not
yet gotten to the
bottom of Allerage
Echo. “He’s done
everything asked of
him,” he said. “I don’t
know where the
Allerage Echo
bottom
is right now.”

comprising half of the six-horse field that started in the
W inbak Farm Pace, it was perhaps not that surprising that
Dime A Dance, a daughter of Roll W ith Joe, got the job
done in 1:54.1. She was joined in the race by stablemates
Mother of Art and Encore Deo.
“There’s no limit right now,” Burke said of Dime A
Dance’s future. “She looks like a top horse.”

Brett Miller Misses Hoosier Drives After
Breaking Foot
Brett Miller had to take off his drives at Hoosier Park last
night after breaking his right foot in a freak accident at

news for Miller is that it is not
a serious break and he is
planning on driving

Among others, he is down to

Wiggle It Jiggleit Sire to Sugar Valley Farms
in Ohio
Mr W iggles, the sire of pacing superstar W iggle It Jiggleit,
will stand at Sugar Valley Farms in Ohio for the 2016
breeding season. His stud fee will be $4,000.
Mr W iggles has moved around quite a bit in his young
career as a stallion. He stood in Indiana his first year and
W iggle It Jiggleit is a product of that crop. But he was bred

to only 17 mares that year. His next stop was Ohio and
Sugar Valley but he was bred to only 20 mares that year.
That crop now consists of 2-year-olds and has produced a
sub 1:55 performer in Mr W iggle Pants, whose lifetime
mark is 1:53.2. From there, he returned to the Delaware
farm of George Teague Jr, and bred just three mares in
2013 and six in 2014. No doubt due to the success of
Wiggle It Jiggleit, he bred 42 mares this year.
"W hat W iggle It Jiggleit has done is huge for the sire,"
said Sugar Valley's Joe McLead. "George and I have been
friends and business partners for quite some time and he
felt it was time to move him back here. The first time
around it just was not economically feasible for us. Once
Wiggle It Jiggleit started doing what he's doing we started
discussing bringing him back. W hy not capitalize on what
he is doing and how well his other crop is doing with such a
small amount of horses?
"I think his book will be full within the next couple of
months. W e've already had a lot of requests from major
breeding farms from around the country and we haven't
even put out a press release yet. The reception is going to
be really good. He's standing at a reasonable price, $4,000,
and there is a lot of opportunity here in Ohio."
Illness Knocks Two Superbly Bred Hanover
Horses from Harrisburg Sale
Two of the better bred horses in the Harrisburg yearling
catalogue have come down with cases of spinal ataxia.
One, Player Hanover, had been euthanized. The other,
Danielle Hanover, is likely
to survive the ordeal but will
likely never race and has,
of course, been taken out
of the sale.
“Both of them were ataxic
behind,” explained Hanover
spokesman Murray Brown.
“But, unfortunately, that's
part of the breeding

Champion and millionairess Possess The Magic. Danielle
Hanover, also a filly, is by Cantab Hall out of D Train, and
is a half-sister to Donato Hanover.
“The Muscle Hill-Possess The Magic colt was so
neurologically impaired that he had to be put down,” Brown
said. “The Cantab Hall-D Train filly was not nearly as bad.
She is likely untrainable, but hopefully she will be okay as a
broodmare. I don't think that its unrealistic to have expected
that between the two of them they would have brought
between $300,000-$400,000.”

Venus Delight powers to victory in Milton

CAMPBELLVILLE, ON - Venus Delight and driver James

the $300,000 Milton Stakes Saturday night at Mohawk

trainee got away fifth in
the early stages for MacDonald, while Lady Shadow and
driver Doug McNair touched down on the front at the
opening-quarter in :26.
Lady Shadow and McNair were able to dictate the pace
and took the field by the half in :54.4. Down the
backstretch, Yagonnakissmeornot and Jody Jamieson
came first up from fourth, allowing MacDonald to catch
cover and situate Venus Delight second-over heading into
the final turn.
Lady Shadow paced by the three-quarter pole in 1:22.3
and appeared to create a few lengths of separation on her
rivals at the top of the lane. Venus Delight flipped off cover
in the lane and took aim at tracking down Lady Shadow.
Several mares began to close in on the leader, but Venus
Delight had the most pace and powered by in deep stretch
to win by half a length over Lady Shadow in 1:50.1.
Sandbetweenurtoes finished third, while Katie Said was
fourth to round out the Superfecta.
The driving victory with Venus Delight in the $300,000
event is one of the biggest triumphs to date for MacDonald.
“I feel great,” said MacDonald in the winner’s circle. “You
always feel great after a win, but after a $300,000 win it’s
pretty special.”
The Milton Stakes victory gives Venus Delight seven wins
from 16 starts this season.
“The trip was great, I wasn’t sure what was going to
happen,” said MacDonald. “I was worried maybe I would
get stuck first up, but when Jody didn’t go out of there and I
caught his cover I was more than happy.
“She stalled a little bit in the last turn and I got taken out a
bit, but a good horse can overcome a bad trip.”
Owned by Bamond Racing LLC., Venus Delight has
earned over $500,000 this season to bring her career
earnings to $758,133. Saturday’s victory was her 24th
lifetime.
A $2 win ticket on Venus Delight returned $6.30.

Still Another Pa. Harness Week Fan Weighs In
I am very disappointed that "PA Harness W eek" is no
more. It's a show I stumbled upon a few years ago, and
found to be extremely entertaining! I thought the repartee
between Steve Ross and Heather Vitale "made" the show.
I have only a minor interest in harness racing, but I
watched the show every Saturday morning for all the fun.
I miss it, and I know I'm not the only one. I hope you'll
have the good sense to bring it back as soon as possible.
Sincerely, Joann Simmens
Short and to the Point
My comment on The Jug: "W iggle It Jiggle It, No balls all heart and guts."
Bob Emery
Kudos to Team Teague
W hen good things happen to good people, it makes
everyone else feel good, too. Such is the case with Team
Teague - who captured the venerable Little Brown Jug
yesterday. This was accomplished in the most
unimaginable way possible - parked for his lungs 1st-up in
both of his heats and still managing to beat the best of his
generation!
Today, everyone is just about unanimous in praising
Wiggle It Jiggleit, as the best thing since the microwave
oven.
W hile I hate being an I told you so, well...I told you so.
From the very first time I watched him glide over a
racetrack, I knew he was special. No, make that V-E-R-Y
special! In addition to being fast and having a gait capable
of gobbling up ground so effortlessly, he has the heart of a
champion - and was huge capturing The Jug. I guess
George Teague knew what he was talking about, when he
said W iggle It's lungs were capable of taking in lots of air.
I'm certainly not harness racing's leading authority (not by
a longshot), but as someone old enough to have watched
Bret Hanover, Albatross, Niatross and, more recently,
Somebeachsomewhere, in action, I always believed that
Wiggle It Jiggleit was worthy of being in the same
conversation of "greatness." W hen I suggested that, some
- a lot smarter than me - scoffed and rolled their eyes.
The truly great one's often display their mettle in defeat.
For the thoroughbred Triple Crown Champion, Seattle
Slew, that occurred in the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup,
when he ran both halves of the Laz Barrera entry of Life's
Hope and fellow Triple Crown champ, Affirmed, into defeat,
before getting beat a nose by a one-run closer named
Exceller - after setting an insanely-fast pace.
In the 2008 Meadowlands Pace, Somebeachsomewhere
would taste defeat for the only time in his magnificent
career. SBSW was parked 3-deep on a :52+ change
half-mile, before losing, albeit begrudgingly, to Art Official who had gotten a perfect, 2-hole trip. For W iggle It Jiggleit,
that race took place at the Meadowlands - in The Cane
Pace. Wiggle It got parked to the quarter in :25.4 before
grabbing the lead, then, he parked In The Arsenal to the
half in :52.1! But, even after such a grueling half-mile, he
refused to quit and just got nipped for show! The Cane was
not about a 1-5 shot getting beat, but rather, a great horse
demonstrating true greatness.
I believe that harness racing missed the boat by not
promoting W iggle It Jiggleit as its "face." Just look at what
the Thoroughbred folks did with American Pharoah this
year. Case in point, even though the Cane Pace - 1st jewel
of pacing's Triple Crown, was part of a stakes-heavy,
closing day card at The Meadowlands, including The
Hambletonian – I found it curious that W iggle It Jiggleit's
name was hardly mentioned in the lead-up. Some might
say that storied The Hambletonian was the feature on that
card and deserved all of the promotional play. But, think
about this: would there be any horse racing at any
racetrack on the same day that American Pharoah was
competing, where American Pharoah would not be the star
of the show?
W hen a special horse like W iggle It Jiggleit comes along with all the built-in "sizzle" - including a great name, classy
connections - who also happen to be African American well...you must promote that horse heavily! It should have
been a concerted effort by the entire industry – one facing
enormous challenges - trying desperately, to somehow, get
itself into the consciousness of a general public, who has
long forgotten about it.
The public loves superstars. I'm certain they would have
readily embraced one with an infectious name like W iggle It
Jiggleit - if only they were aware of him.
Sadly, however, it was just a blown opportunity.
Finally, congratulations to Team Teague - George,
Montrell, and Clyde Francis - for winning The Little Brown
Jug and for sharing your wonderful W iggle It Jiggleit with
us!
