H B A NEWSBRIEF OME UILDERS SSOCIATION The Official Newsletter of the Home Builders Association of Greater Southwest IL The Voice of the Homebuilding and Remodeling Industries in Southwest Illinois. Representing Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Greene, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, Randolph and St. Clair Counties August 2015 issue w w w .h b as w i l .o rg In Loving Memory ~ Herschel E. Johnson ~ Over 130 golfers and volunteers enjoyed the links at Far Oaks Golf Course in Caseyville. Congrats to the 6 winning teams - the A flight had a 3 way tie each scoring 54! All of the event updates and pictures can be found throughout this issue... 1st Place A Flight Team Liese Lumber with a score of 54 taking home $250 cash and the traveling trophy! 2nd Place A Flight Team Light Brite Distributing with a score of 54! I-55 Corridor Update The Municipality Assistance Committee has made great strides in taking the I-55 Corridor Plan from one that was far reaching and over bearing to the land owners in its coverage as well as residential developers and builders to a plan that, while still under revision, is more in keeping with current codes and practices. We feel that the door has been opened for this committee to become a sounding board and source for information by these municipalities in the future. As published on the Madison County website please be aware that the Edwardsville Plan Commission will continue its review of the proposed I-55 development code on Monday, August 17, 2015 at 7 PM at the Edwardsville City Hall, 118 Hillsboro Ave, Edwardsville, IL 62025. The Glen Carbon Planning & Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to hear comments about the proposed regulations on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 7 PM at the Glen Carbon Village Hall, 151 North Main St, Glen Carbon, IL 62034. The Madison County Zoning Board of Appeals is expected to continue its review at a later date. The HBA, locally and nationally lost a great leader, in Herschel Johnson. It is said that the true measure of a great leader is the willingness to place the needs of others above their own. Great leaders truly care about those they are privileged to work with and understand that the true cost of leadership comes at the expense of self-interest. Herschel exemplified this definition of leadership. Each of us saw his devotion and dedication to the home building industry, not only on a local level but also on a state and national level, and to the people who work in the industry. He “volunteered” countless hours to help make our industry a better place to earn a living and homes a better place for families to live. Whether you were new to home building or a veteran, Herschel always had time to talk about the issues facing us and the direction things needed to go. He helped make our local HBA a strong and respected voice on the local, state and national level. To recognize his dedication, commitment and leadership, The Golf Committee is renaming our annual golf event the Herschel Johnson Golf Classic.
