Surprising beauty!
Illusional world continuously
inspiring the world.
Ukrainian unique folk dance
mixed with authentic Russian
classical ballet
Departing from Tokyo to
Broadway. Amon Miyamoto’s
international project
21 men and women in their teens to thirties,
selected from disabled persons all over China, will
dance the “Senjukannon” with their hand
motions in perfect coordination. They received
high praise in the world at the Athens Paralympic
Games, Exposition of Global Harmony and a TV
program “With a Dream” (Awarded Most
Excellent TV Theme Award of Hollywood
International Movie TV Festival). Because they
are hearing-impaired, their other senses are sharp
and their feeling sense is strong and they deliver
not only their beautiful art but also “the power
to have a dream and to live strong.” Please look
forward to their transcendent performance.
Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, has been
known as a city of ballet arts since the
days of the former Soviet Union, along
with Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
From such an old city, Kyiv, many ballet
artists starting from Nijinsky, a legendary dancer, are continuously entering the
world. The Kyiv Ballet Company, in its
12th performance in Japan, will present
a magnificent atmosphere created from
the fertile land of Ukraine and the
elegance born in an old city such as Kyiv,
as well as presenting the splendor of
Russian ballet.
This will be a magnificent and international project
departing from Tokyo to Broadway created by
Amon Miyamoto, a theater director, who made his
debut on Broadway, as the first Japanese, with his
work, “Pacific Overtures,” collaborating with the
first-class creative team of Broadway, New York!
It will be a trial run of the competition of tickets
to Broadway, New York between the Tokyo
production and the London production. A big
dream will be presented to you in 2007, the year
of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Amelia
Mary Earhart, the first female pilot and the year of
the 80th anniversary of the solo transatlantic
flight by Charles Augustus Lindbergh.
this winter!
The winter line-up at the Tokyo International Forum is more powerful
than ever before! In addition to Russian ballet competitive performances
by 3 companies, there will be many must-not-miss performances such
as new musicals made in Tokyo, real Broadway musicals and popular
Chinese dances. This winter, why don’t you enjoy the performing arts at
the Tokyo International Forum?

Japan performance for limited
time! That excitement will be
revived with original direction!
The No. 1 popular ballet company
in Moscow will perform in Japan
after a 7-year interval.
Let’s enjoy yearend/New Year’s time
with a prestigious ballet company
with a long history and tradition.
The musical, “RENT” has been enjoying a
record-breaking long run on Broadway. The
stage is set in New York’s East Village at the
end of the 20th century. It represents
figures of diligent young people who want to
be artists, who are too poor to pay their
rents, in a blighted town where drugs and
AIDS are rampant. Following the Japan
performances of the movie which scored a hit
and sold out tickets in 2006, this will be a
special run of only 10 performances, to be
performed at Christmas time, the season of
RENT! The excitement of the movie and
Broadway will be revived in Japan.
Moscow Academic Music Theater capped with
names of Stanislavsky, an actor/theatre director,
who is boasted to the world by Russia and his
cooperator, Nemirovich-Danchenko, a dramatic
author, will perform in Japan after a 7-year
interval. The program will be Bourmeister’s
version of “Swan Lake” which was born in the
Moscow academic Music Theater and gave great
impact to the history of ballet and Vainonen’s
version of “Nutcracker” which is most loved in
Russia. All the stages created by Vladimir Arefiev,
a director of stage art, will be used and the stage
in Moscow will be completely reproduced. It will be
the most luxurious Christmas present from Russia.
The Leningrad State Ballet, born in Saint
Petersburg, a city of midnight sun and arts, is
a prestigious ballet company with a history
and tradition of more than 170 years. This
year, Tchaikovsky’s 3 masterpieces, “Swan
Lake,” “Nutcracker” and “Sleeping
Beauty” are lined up. There may be many
people who are looking forward to a New Year
Special Ballet, an annual unique event for the
New Year’s time at the Forum. Stages full
of a noble romantic mood, exactly
reproduced from the original stage, will be
presented with a flowing music performance
of the Leningrad State Orchestra.

Series No.4
LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL
- A jazz festival which you can access through the internet It is during summer time, mainly
in July, when European countries
are crowded with jazz festivals.
Montreux in Switzerland and North
Sea in Holland represent such festivals. However, London Jazz Festiロンドン
val (LJF) is daringly held during the
off-season, November. As LJF is
held in the capital of England, it
must have been a topic in the news, but it has not attracted
much attention in Japan.
In LJF, which started in 1993, enthusiastic performances will be
deployed on stages of major concert halls and jazz clubs in
London for 10 days. In 2006, starting from English artists such as
Dave Holland, who celebrated the 60th anniversary of his birth
and Evan Parker, leading an electro acoustic ensemble and European and American jazz musicians who cover main-stream to
improvisation such as Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Cassandra Wilson, as well as world-line musicians such as Marisa Monte
and Seu Jorge were booked. The highlight of 2006 was a live
performance in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where a black veteran
pianist, Randy Weston performed his own representative repertoire with BBC Big Band. These gorgeous stages which are impossible to realize in Japan show the success of the original
planning ability of LJF.
The reason that indoor venues are mainly used is due to the
climate condition during this season, but outdoor free concerts
are also prepared, where fans can enjoy “hopping” several
stages in simultaneous multiple programs, utilizing the advantages of an event in a big city. In addition, with the collaboration of BBC Radio3, live audio source is released as an accessible
content on the internet; therefore, LJF is an environment which
can be recognized by the world’s music fans as a very familiar
jazz festival.
In its 15th round this
year, Chick Corea,
Sonny Rollins and
others are to perform.
LJF now prides itself
the best content on
the European jazz
scene in terms of its
quality and quantity.
