Vada`s Gesso Resist Tutorial
Vada’s Gesso Resist Tutorial October 2006 When one of my stamping heroes sends me a technique, I sit up and pay attention! Design Team Member Vada Schutz offered this stunning technique -- I hope this tutorial does this artistic technique justice. Make sure you peek at Vada’s “to-die-for” artwork on the artwork pages! Supplies: - Stamps for Collage - Black StazOn Ink - White Gesso - Wax Paper - Kaleidacolor, Spectrum or Rainbow Ink - Brayer - 2 or 3 Colors of Walnut EZ Tintz (or watered down dye inks) in colors complementary to the Rainbow Ink - Heat tool - Glossy Cardstock - Several Cosmetic Sponges Step One: Stamp a collage in black StazOn over the glossy cardstock. © 2002-2006Patstamps.com Step Two: Dry the ink with a heat tool. Step Three: Step Four: Step Five: Step Six: Tear off a small portion of wax paper and squirt a quarter-size drop of Gesso on it. Dry the Gesso with a heat tool. Step Seven: Sponge sparingly over the cardstock, leaving plenty of white space. © 2002-2006Patstamps.com Carefully wad the wax paper with the Gesso facing out. Dab and swipe the Gesso sparingly over the cardstock and images. Apply the lightest color of Walnut Ink Tintz to a cosmetic sponge. Step Eight: Repeat; sponge on additional colors of tintz as desired. Leave plenty of white space. Step Nine: Dry inks with the heat tool. Step Ten: Load brayer with complementary rainbow ink. Brayer ink over the tintz and cardstock. The rainbow ink will blend the ink tintz while the gesso will resist the ink. I love the way this turned out -- so graphic! Use high-contrast colors for best results.
