Painted Mesh Tutorial
December 2008/January 2009
When was the last time you used Magic Mesh? I know it has been a while for me. This fun way to use the mesh will have you rethinking
your backgrounds. Try this with different paints and colors, even add some Pearl Ex or Powdered Pearls for a great background!
Supplies:
- Non-stick Craft Sheet or Wax Paper or Foil
- Rubber Brayer
- Cardstock, Designer Paper or Chipboard
- Magic Mesh or Drywall Tape
- Acrylic Paint or Gesso
- Scissors
*See additional ideas, below
Step One:
Wrap the mesh around the brayer by rolling the mesh adhesive-side facing the rubber. Line up the edge of the mesh with the brayer when
rolling. Cut the mesh with scissors where the edges meet.

Step Two:
Line up the mesh on the other side of the brayer roll and the mesh around that half. Cut off the excess mesh with scissors so the roller is
completely mesh-covered withou any extra hanging off the edges.
Step Three:
Step Four:
Step Five:
Step Six:
Place a line of Gesso or paint on the non-stick sheet.
Roll the brayer gently over the cardstock to transfer the paint.
Repeat where necessary.

Roll the mesh-covered brayered through the paint several times
gently to add paint all the way around the roller.
Allow the paint to dry and use as desired, or try one of the
variations, below.
Ideas to Try::
- Stamp directly over the background and color with colored
pencils or markers.
- Use designer paper instead of cardstock.
- Add Powdered Pearls or Pearl Ex to the paint to add shimmer.
- Roll the brayer over chipboard or chipboard letters for
a unique look.
- Roll the mesh over punched shapes
- Use on silk flowers for a unique look.
- Roll over acetate and use on cards or scrapbook pages. Ideas to Try:
Stamp directly over the background and color with colored
pencils or markers.
