GLENDORA - The community of Glendora came together
last week collecting bears, letters and prayers for families impacted by the devastating shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary
School in Newtown, Conn.
The community is leading
with love through this project

of Martha's Candies and Maura
Murabito wife of the Mayor of
Glendora, Gene Murabito.
Throughout the entire week,
members of the community
brought in teddy bears, letters
and prayers to Glendora Interiors, Glendora Florist, Martha's
Candies, Cake Mamas and Ken
Turner Real Estate.
"I was heartbroken when I
heard the events that took place
in Newtown, Conn. It was an
uncontrolled feeling that I
needed to do something to be a
part of letting people over there
know how much we care over
here," said Annette Nemeth. She
continues that a short-term goal
for the project is to physically
release the pain that was felt in
our local community by so

members joined with Eliot
Middle School and Hillsides Services for its 18th Annual Adopta-Family program held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 on
La Salle's campus.
Hundreds of students, parents, children and families enjoyed
games, Christmas Cookie decorating, Christmas carols, bingo
and a delicious lunch at the
Adopt-A-Family Christmas
party. Santa and his elves arrived to visit with the children
at the party and to help distribute Christmas presents.
During the week preceding
the party, La Salle students
wrapped hundreds of gifts for
foster and needy children from
Hillsides and Eliot Middle
School. Additionally, gifts were
donated to 15 children of military families from Fort Irwin.
"It is a selfless, generous and
fun way for our students,
alumni and our community to
start the Christmas Season,"
said Michelle Grima, Student
Life Service Coordinator. "Everyone truly had a great time!"

obligated to do something to
reach out to the Newtown,

said she donated a teddy bear
because she put herself in that
situation and can't even imagine what the families are experiencing. When Colombus
Johnson heard about the
project, he came all the way
from Los Angeles to deliver a
handwritten letter. "I thought it
was neat that the community
was getting together," Johnson
said, "I wanted to play a small
role and be able to express my
condolences." Johnson believes
that this project along with many
others will eventually help heal
a town, which will help heal a
city, which will help heal a
county, which will help heal a
state, which will help heal a
country.
"I think this project will help
impacted families because we
need to let them know we care
and we love them and there is
hope," Snider said. "It could
have been my kids," she says,
"I wasn't able to hug them that
night and because of that, I
wanted to physically hug the
families who had lost their own
children." The community of
Glendora hopes that this project
will have long-term effects, not
only in our local community but
in Newtown, Conn. as well.

GLENDORA - The Glendora
Woman's Club recently presented the Glendora high School
Girls Silhouette Choral Group in
a special Christmas program at
the club's December meeting.
The choral group, under the
direction of Brian Trevor,
D.M.A., entertained members
and guests with a variety of
Christmas songs and special
selections, said president program
choir
Carolyn
Cunningham.
At the close of the musical
program, director Trevor announced that the group would
be traveling to New York City
in February to perform at
Carnegie Hall.
The meeting ended with a
standing ovation for the choral
group, midst congratulations on
their upcoming performance in
New York City.

"Shen Yun literally means 'the
beauty of divine beings dancing'," says Julianne Xu, one of
the company's bilingual emcees.
"It's a very rare kind of arts
group. Shen Yun presents to
audiences all over the world a
true culture, something you
don't see even in modern-day
China."
Founded in New York in
2006,
the
nonprofit
organization's mission is to
bring a long-lost culture back
to life. With the globally understood voice of the arts and taking advantage of the artistic freedom in the United States, Shen
Yun Performing Arts was born.
Shen Yun performances bring
alive this ancient treasure for the
audience. The classical form of
Chinese dance perfectly expresses the essence of the di-
vine culture.
China was once known as the
"Celestial Empire". To understand the journey through 5000
years of China's history first one
has to understand its beginnings. Emperor Huangdi, also
known as "The Yellow Emperor", is credited with establishing the deeply rooted foundation of ancient China. A way
of life called "Tao," or "The
Heavenly Way" which flowed
through every aspect of life,
venerating the divine and virtue
in ancient China.
The concept of aligning oneself and life to higher principles
has permeated China's culture
for thousands of years; it has
been expressed as the organizing principle in every aspect of
life. From the arranging of furniture with Feng Shui, to governing people by Confucian ideals; from following Taoist and
Buddhist meditation practices to
creating music and art that revere the divine.
"China was once known as
'The Celestial Empire,'" says
Shen Yun conductor Chen Ying.
"Calligraphy, music, painting,
and even the Chinese language
are believed to have been passed
down from the heavens."
Fast-forward and you discover that these traditions have
almost completely disappeared,
have almost been completely
wiped out by the Communist
Party's political campaigns.
The Cultural Revolution of 60's
and 70's was especially damaging. A trove of treasured artifacts, temples, and literature
were destroyed in the name of
the communist revolution. Many
of China's most renowned operas, folk songs, and popular
lore were altered for the sake
of propaganda. Chinese culture
has never fully recovered from
this attempt to purge the beauty
of its true heritage.
China's myths and legends
are all based in the rich and
beautiful "Heavenly Way". They
recorded that the Middle Kingdom was continually guided by
celestial beings. This provided
China's people with a path of
beauty, virtue and kindness to
live by. Today this ancient tradition which has been all but
completely demolished is being
revived. Shen Yun Performing
Arts is reviving "The Heavenly
Way" for the world!

wedding took place recently, of
Ishani daughter of Upul and
Barbara Dharmadasa and
Ram, son of Raj and Dr. Rani
Gowrinathan, at the fabulous
Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles. The parents of the
couple entertained 600 guests
at the wedding ceremony in the
beautiful courtyard garden
which was decorated with an
abundance of natural and ex-
otic flowers, and then inside
Vibiana (which was once the
largest cathedral in California)
and is converted to be one of
the most beautiful and elegant
venues for weddings. Although it was during the rainy
season, the sun shined bright
on the faces of the bride and
groom, the wedding party and
the guests. They were entertained to dancing music, a
fabulous ethnic dinner and
cocktails of course. A fairy
tale wedding with an East Indian flavor. The happy couple
honeymooned in the Maldive
Islands.

Junior Volunteers Donate Recliner
to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital
The Junior Volunteers at
Foothill Presbyterian gave an
early Christmas present to the
hospital and its patients.
Through their tea bag fund
raiser they were able to purchase a special $2500 hospital
recliner for the second floor.
This recliner will be used by
family members who wish to
stay with their loved ones overnight. Having a comfortable
place for them to rest will benefit all.
These 74 junior volunteers
work throughout the hospital.
Some you will see at the front
desk, some are discharging pa-
tients or delivering food trays
and some help out in the emergency room. Those involved
with the STARS program get
special training and then are able
to visit the patients. Their hard
work and smiles are much appreciated.

Donates Money and Gifts to Sisters

COVINA - An unidentified
woman is making the holidays
better for two sisters who survived a traffic accident that
killed their mother, father, 11
year old sister and an uncle.
The woman from Glendora
saw KTLA Channel 5's coverage of West Covina's Police,
"Shop with a Cop" program
where Jocelyn and her sister
were on the news, with Jocelyn
helping news reporter, Lynette
Romero, with the broadcast.
They also touched on the family tragedy.
Back on August 12, around
7:00 p.m, a Ford Explorer was
eastbound on the 134 freeway
at Figueroa in the Glendale area.
The SUV had six passengers.
Witnesses reported that the
SUV had a blowout and the
driver lost control of his vehicle.
The SUV struck a raised curb
near the center of the freeway
and then flipped over a number
of times, throwing out (then) 6year-old Jocelyn Ramirez from
the vehicle before falling through
an opening between the westbound and eastbound that was
built into the overpass for
Figueroa street.. The SUV fell
about 40 feet below onto
Figueroa street, killing the parents and the 11-year-old sister.
The uncle died in the hospital
and the older girl was transported to the hospital in critical
condition. The oldest sister had
to be extricated from the SUV
in critical condition. That was
the only opening in a long stretch
of the freeway and sadly the

SUV found the opening.
Another uncle, Jesse Abalos
(the brother of the mother)
along with his wife, Alejandra,
took in the two sisters. They
already had three children and
with Leslie and Jocelyn joining
the family, Alejandra had to quit
her job while she took care of
the family. This made things
pretty rough for the entire family.
The unidentified Glendora
woman wanted to make things
a little better for the girls and
the family. She contacted the
West Covina Police Department
and said she wanted to bring
gifts for the girls and the family.
She dropped off blankets,
toiletries, gift cards and also included a check for the family.
Officers Eddie Flores and
Laurie Pruitt showed up at their
home with the gifts. The family was all smiles as well as the
officers. They were extremely
thankful for the act of kindness
from someone they didn't even
know.
They wanted to say "Thank
you" to that special woman
from Glendora.
