Bericht des Präsidenten
Der Einsendetermin für
diesen Bericht trifft mit
dem Beginn des Oktoberfestes zusammen, so kann
ich leider noch nichts
übers Oktoberfest berichten, doch es sieht sehr
vielversprechend aus! Mit
dem
Verkauf
der
Eintrittskarten sind wir im
Vergleich zum letzten Jahr
weit im voraus die 2
Freitage und Samstage waren natürlich wie auch
in den letzten Jahren schon im Mai ausverkauft.
Die diesjährige Veranstaltung von Oktoberfest
Inc. “Rock the Tent” war dieses Mal mit über
3000 Besuchern ein voller Erfolg. Das sollte genug Geld einbringen um Oktoberfest Inc’s Etat
auszugleichen. Wie auch in den letzten Jahren
mussten unsere Untergruppen länger warten ehe
sie ihre Buden aufstellen konnten. Noch einmal
bedanke ich mich bei allen Gruppen für ihr
Verständnis. Vergesst bitte nicht, dass am
Samstag, den 6. November das Stiftungsfest stattfindet gefolgt von einer besonderen Feier der
Mardi Grass Gruppe am Samstag, den 13.
November. Beide Veranstaltungen sind sehr
wichtig für uns und wir würden uns sehr freuen,
wenn viele von euch mitmachen, um die grosse
Halle zu füllen. Beim Stiftungsfest am 6.
November wird es das letzte Mal sein, dass ich
eine Rede als euer Präsident halten werde, da ich
mich entschlossen habe, mich nicht wieder als
Präsident aufstellen zu lassen. Nachdem ich 9
Jahre in diesem Amt tätig war ist es Zeit, dass
“neues Blut” die Führung unseres Klubs übernimmt.
Wir haben einige Überraschungen für Euch an
diesem Abend und hoffen, dass viele von Euch
dabei sein werden um Rückblick zu halten und
einen Abend voller Frohsinn und Vergnügen mit
uns zu feiern. Das von unseren Chören veranstaltete Winzerfest war wieder mal ein Abend voller

Der Treffpunkt war wieder stark vertreten, gut
gemacht. Wie der Zufall es wollte, wurde schon
zum 2. Male der Tanzpartner von Karl Braun die
Weinkönigin! Also, meine Damen wer Weinkönigin werden will, muss mit Karl Braun
tanzen! Der deutsche Volkstrauertag findet am
Sonntag, den 14. November auf dem Woodland
Friedhof statt. Bei dieser Feier werden wieder
unsere gefallenen Soldaten geehrt und alle, die
während des Krieges, und auch danach, so
furchtbar leiden mussten. Anschliessend gibt es
wieder Kaffee und Kuchen im Alpen Klub. Diese
Feierlichkeiten werden von der Deutsch
Kanadischen Gedächtnisstiftung und von der
Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutschen Klubs im
Kreise Waterloo organisiert. Wir hoffen, dass uns
das Wetter in diesem Jahr wieder gnädig sein
wird damit so viele unserer Mitglieder wie
möglich dabei sein können. Wir werden versuchen an diesem Tag Stühle aufzustellen für
diejenigen, denen es schwer fällt, so lange zu stehen. Es scheint, dass keiner von uns jünger wird!
Im Dezember fangen nun langsam verschiedene
saisonbedingte Feierlichkeiten an, angefangen
mit dem Weihnachtsessen der Senioren am
Dienstag, den 7. Dezember. Besorgt Euch eure
Karten rechtzeitig, wenn Ihr einen guten Tisch
reservieren
wollt,
sonst
könnte
es
Enttäuschungen geben. Ich hoffe, so viele von
Euch wie möglich bei diesen Festen begrüssen
zu könnnen, um mit Euch zu feiern.

President’s Report
The deadline for this bulletin is such that it coincides with the first day of Oktoberfest, so I will
not be able to report on Oktoberfest other than to
say it looks very promising. Ticket sales are
ahead of last year for the remaining five days of
the festival – the two Fridays and Saturdays of
Oktoberfest are always sold out far in advance in
May. Oktoberfest Inc.’s “Rock the Tent” was a
success this time around, as they had over 3000
attendees. This should give the Inc. some extra
income to balance the budget. As in the past
years, the Groups inside the Main Tent had to
wait until the last few days before Oktoberfest to
set up their booths. Thanks again for your
patience and understanding.
Please remember Stiftungsfest on Saturday,
November the 6th, followed by the Mardi Gras
special celebration of 4x11 on Saturday,
November the 13th. Both of these events are
important, and we sure would like to see the hall
filled, so please make an effort to attend.
Stiftungsfest, November the 6th, will be the last
time that I will address all of you at this function
as your President, as I have decided not to seek
re-election. After nine years of service in this
capacity, I believe it is time for new blood to take
on the leadership of the Club. We have planned
a few surprises for this evening, and I hope that
you will join us for an evening of reflection, fun
and enjoyment.
Winzerfest, staged by our Choirs again, turned
into an evening of fun and enjoyment for all. A
visiting Choir from Stratford also attended, and
the hall was filled. My thanks to our Youth group
who turned out in full force. Their President,
Alexandria Nowak, was crowned the new
Weinkönigin. Treffpunkt, well done! By some
coincidence, this was the second year in a row
that Karl Braun’s dance partner won the title of
Weinkönigin. So next year ladies, if you want to
win, dance with Karl!
German Volktrauertag is on Sunday, November
the 14th. We will again have a ceremony honouring our fallen soldiers and all those who
endured atrocities during and after the wars at
Woodland Cemetery in Kitchener, followed by
coffee and cake at the Alpen Club. These ceremonies are now being organized by the German
Canadian Remembrance Society and the Cooperative Council of German Clubs of the Region
of Waterloo. Let’s hope the weather is on our
side, as it makes it so much easier for our members to attend. We are trying to arrange for chairs
to be available for those who find it difficult to
stand for the entire length of the proceedings, as
it seems that none of us are getting any younger!
November also marks the beginning of the festive
season, starting with the “Seniors Christmas
Dinner” on Tuesday, December the 7th. Purchase
your tickets early, as it is the best way to ensure
you can reserve a good table and avoid disappointment.

Stiftungsfest
Am 6. November findet das diesjährige Stiftungsfest der Mitglieder des Klubs statt! Karten
für diese Veranstaltung sind
schon seit dem 15. September
erhältlich. Sehr wahrscheinlich
sind Karten nur noch in begrenztem Maße erhältlich, denn wie
Sie alle wissen, kostet der Eintritt einschließlich Cocktail Stunde und einem Festessen nur $ 18.- einschließlich Verkaufssteuern und
Bedienungsgeld. Der Schatzmeister des Klubs muss
an diesem Abend eine gute Stange Geld zuschießen,
denn die Eintrittsgelder decken bei weitem nicht
die Unkosten! An diesem Abend finden alle Ehrungen für verschiedene Jahre der Mitgliedschaft, sowie die Ernennung eines neuen Ehrenmitgliedes
statt. Zur Unterhaltung spielen das bekannte und
immer beliebte Edelweiss Trio.
Seniorenweihnachtsfeier
Am 6. Dezember feiert der Klubvorstand mit unseren Mitgliedern, welche das Seniorenalter erreicht
bzw. überschritten haben, die alljährliche Concordia Club Seniorenweihnachtsfeier. Hierbei gibt’s
selbstverständlich ein serviertes Abendessen zusammen mit einem kleinen und bunten Unterhaltungsprogramm. Karten zu dieser Veranstaltung

Selbstverständlich planen wir wieder für eine

Schenke am 31. Dezember. Dieses Jahr spielt wieder
das beliebte Edelweiss Trio und serviert wird
wieder ein Festessen in 5 Gängen, ganz so, wie wir
es in den Vorjahren gemacht haben. Das Format des
Abends hat sich besonders bewährt und findet bei
unseren Gästen viel Zuspruch, weshalb wir uns
auch in diesem Jahr dafür entschlossen haben.
Reservierungs-Eintrittskarten in Form eines Essensgutscheines können zu je $ 55.- pro Person im
Klubbüro erworben werden. (Der Essensgutschein
schließt weder Steuern noch Bedienungsgeld mit
ein) (gleicher Preis seit 3 Jahren!!) Mit dem Erwerb
der Karten sichern Sie sich einen Tisch und dieser
Gutschein wird dann am Ende des Abends von

Stiftungsfest
Tickets in form of vouchers will be available
shortly for our upcoming New Years Eve
Party in the Schenke this year again with
the always popular “Edelweiss Trio”. A 5course dinner to ensure that everyone is fed
in style in order to celebrate this special
occasion. Tickets in form of a dinner voucher are only $ 55.- each, same price as the last
3 years!!!. (This dinner voucher will be
deducted from your total restaurant bill,
where the dinner portion is $ 55.-, plus
applicable taxes and gratuities) As this
event is held in the Schenke and we sell out
each and every year, I would like to remind
you that the best seats reserve first, so don't
delay your table reservation for too long!!
Although most members get their tickets in
September, we may just have a few left! On
November 6st, the club celebrates another
successful year in it’s 137 years of history.
Just like it was done in prior years, there
will be a cocktail hour, followed by dinner.
After dinner the club will honour special
members for their continued years of loyal
membership. As far as I know, a new “honorary” member will also be announced that
evening followed by entertainment from the
well known and liked Edelweiss Trio. The
admission price is again heavily subsidized
by the club’s treasury!!
Seniors Christmas Party
On December the 7th we have another reason to celebrate: the club invites all members who reached the age of 65 (and over) to
come and enjoy an evening out with dinner
and entertainment.
Tickets are available in the club office and
the price per senior member is only $ 18.00
inclusive applicable taxes and gratuities!!!!
Of course for that price we serve a special
Christmas Dinner as we’ve done in the past.
I am sure Santa will be there and of course
entertainment is arranged as well. Come on
out and be with your friends!!!
Prepaid Gift Card
If you need a gift Idea for Christmas or any
other occasion: The club is selling prepaid
gift cards in denominations of $ 10.- and up.
The card can be used to pay for food and
beverages in the Schenke, either once or
during multiple visits. It’s an ideal and lasting gift!! Of course we also offer gift certificates in smaller denominations - it’s your

Well, Oktoberfest has come and gone. The
committee would like to extend a big thank
you to all of you who volunteered to work in
our booth. The group would also like to
welcome 2 new bowlers: Gisela Ruff and

always welcome. We now have our Turkey
Roll and Christmas Party to look forward to.

Nach 92 Jahren
Am Sonntag endet für
Deutschland der 1. Weltkrieg
Am nächsten Sonntag ist es so weit:
Deutschland tilgt die letzten Schulden aus
Reparationszahlungen für den 1. Weltkrieg
(1914-1918). 69.9 Millionen Euro beenden
dieses Kapitel nach 92 Jahren. Zumindest
finanziell.
Londoner Schuldenabkommen von 1953 erst gezahlt werden, wenn Deutschland
wiedervereinigt sei. Diese Zahlungen begannen 1996. Am 3. Oktober 2010 ist nun die
letzte Rate fällig - und der Erste Weltkrieg
auch finanziell beendet.
Die rund 70 Millionen Euro stehen als
Punkt 2.1.1.6 im Bundeshaushalt 2010:
“Bereinigte Auslandsschulden (Londoner
Schuldenabkommen)”.
Warum zahlt Deutsch-land noch immer?
Nach dem Ersten Welt krieg musste
Deutschland
Entschädigungen
für
Zerstörungen und Kriegskosten leisten.
Verpflichtungen aus dem Versailler
Vertrag von 1919. Doch während des
Zweiten Weltkriegs stoppte das Deutsche
Reich die Zahlungen.
Nach 1945 übernahm die Bundesrepublik
einen großen Teil der Schulden, beglich
sie bis 1983. Rund 125 Millionen Euro für
Zinsen auf Auslandsanleihen sollten - lt.

Oktoberfest haben wir wieder einmal gut hinter
uns gebracht.
Wir hoffen, dass es fuer den Klub und die
Untergruppen ein Erfolg war.
Leider sind nun die schoenen Sommertage vorbei. In diesem Jahr konnten wir uns ueber das
Wetter nicht beklagen. Auch die Herbsttage
waren einmalig. Hoffen wir dass der Winter nicht
zu streng wird.
Die Skat-Gruppe hat den Ann Wolf Pokal
in 2 Durchgaengen gespielt. Es waren an jedem
Abend 30 Spieler anwesend.

Dear Karneval Friends
When you read this message Oktoberfest is
behind us. Now we are still looking forward for
this event. It is not only a lot of fun but a lot of
work. We thank all those people who helped us
to make it a wonderful success. Without you we
would never had made it.
For Friends of the Karneval starts now the 5th
season of the year with lots of fun and happy
days!
On November the 13. we have a Great Gala
Opening our 44th Anniversary.
This event includes the Prince Proclamation,
Dance performances from our Garde, entertainment and dancing to the music of the Variations
with Heinz Lindlau.
For this event the doors open at 5 pm and a three
course dinner will be served at 6 pm. The cost for
this wonderful evening is $27.00 and can only be
bought in advance by calling Juergen Budczinski
at 519-745-7506.
For those who would like to accompany us out of
town:
We will be traveling to Hamilton November 20th
at 6pm by bus from the Concordia Club. Also on
Nov. 27th we will be going to London by bus at
6pm from the Concordia Club. Everyone is welcome to join us.
In January we will update you with our outcome
from these events.

Am ersten Mittwoch jeden Monats ist unser
Treffen, diesmal wars in der Jaegerstube mit 15
Mitgliedern anwesend. Fred begruesste herzlich
jeden Besucher. Ihm alle Ehre wie er in der
Gruppe die Versammlung fuehrt und das
Wichtigste berichtet, wie von den Kanufahrern
auf der Concordiafarm. Auch berichtete er in
seinem Falle ueber Rente aus Deutschland, da
jetzt rueckwirkend von 2005 an die volle Rente
nachtraeglich versteuert wird, man kann sich
beraten lassen, ueber was noch kommen wird,
ein jeder hat seine eigene Sache zu erledigen.
Auch hatten wir grossen Besuch von Benjamin
Mayer, gerade 3 Monate alt, vorgestellt von
Luzie, ein Zeichen dass es in 65 Jahren noch eine
Senioren Gruppe geben wird. Den 50/50 gewann
Wolfgang die Summe ging in die Kasse, Margret
Koch wurde zum Geburtstag gratuliert mit Kaffee
und Torte nahm das Treffen sein Ende.

Campers
Hello From The Campers Group
The camp ground is now officially closed. The
hydro and water should be shut off by now. I still
love going out to the farm in the fall. There is still
lots of wild life and the leafs have turned to beautiful colors.
The campers committee have modified the campers
booth for Oktoberfest and I trust it was a great success. I hope everyone had a chance to see the new
booth. I would like to thank the committee for all
their hard work during Oktoberfest and I would also
like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work
filling in the shifts at the booth.
We have purchased a new projector and will be buying a Wii for the Home On The Range so the young
and old can use the Home On The Range and have
different things to do on weekends at the farm. This
will especially come in handy if we have a rainy
weekend. We can do movie nights with the projector also. Your new committee will be working hard
to come up with new ideas to entertain the campers.
There will not be much to write about over the winter but your committee will keep you informed
about anything new at the Concordia Farm.
Outdoor Group
Fellow Outdoor and Concordia Club Members
The Outdoor Group have had a very successful
Oktoberfest. This is due to all of our amazing volunteers who helped set up and tear down the
booths and helped worked the crossbow and
shooting booths during the week. I would also
like to thank the committee members for all the
pre planning and extra work they have done
through out Oktoberfest. Most importantly I
would like to thank everyone on the main board

for all their hard work during this week. Some of
the main Board take holidays to work at
Oktoberfest and others work their regular jobs
and then go to the Concordia Club and work
until 2 in the morning. I personally don't know
how you do it but it is really appreciated. It is
because of you that the Concordia Club is the
best German Club anywhere.
Now that Oktoberfest is over the Outdoor group
committee has started planning this years
Christmas party. The new committee have decided to change our party to a Friday night so we
can party until dawn. It will be December 17thin
the main hall. This Christmas Party will also be a
reunion for all the past Outdoor Group Members.
We will recognize the accomplishments of some
of our past members. There will be entertainment,door prizes,recognition for long term members,announcing the member of the year and we
will party until Christmas morning. May be that's
a little carried away. We will also have a special
guest flying all the way in from the North Pole.
Don't forget if you have worked two or more
shifts at Oktoberfest your dinner is free. The
committee will be calling all of you to see if you
will be coming to the event of the year. Once we
have Christmas out of the way your new committee will be mailing all of you a calender of the
up and coming events for 2011. Hope to see all of
you at the Christmas Party. Take care for now.

Concordia Choir
September was our annual Winzerfest and we
would like to thank the Stratford choir for joining in our celebrations of dinner, dancing, wine
and song, and being our guest judges. It’s not an
easy task, but after much waltzing the judges
crowned this years wine queen to be Alexandria
Nowak, who was partnered by Karl Braun. Karl
has successfully partnered with the last two wine
queens, (last year Katie Braun) and I have heard
that his dance card is already full for next year!
Childrens Choir - do you have children, or
grandchildren or friends who like to sing? The
childrens choir is still accepting new singers. It’s
not too late to join! The choir is now under the
direction of Angelika Werner, who many of you
know from the German Language School. She
has lead many successful choirs, and we are
thrilled that she will continue to instruct with
Concordia. Practice is every Monday from 6:307:30. For more details you can call Ulrike
Schmidt at 519-888-0512 or drop by the club on
Mondays to join a practice.

Dates to Remember
October - the choir will be busy volunteering in
our game booths. A huge thank you to the men
that assemble the game booths year after year,
and the volunteers that work the games.
Nov. 6th - Stiftungsfest - Male Choir
November - we will be busy practicing for our
Christmas concert. You will want to mark your
calendars for this event on December 12 at 7pm.
We have a selection of some exciting new
arrangements from Dr. Alfred Kunz, as well as
your favorite traditional songs. On November 6th
the male choir has the honor of singing at the
clubs ‘Stiftungsfest’. As the clubs founding roots
started from the male choir, it is an honor to be
invited to sing at this event for the members.

On September 17th at the age of 90 Katharina
Matich has passed away. We wish to express our

Hello all! Its our busiest time of the year as we
start preparations for Oktoberfest and I’m writing
a bulletin for November events which is our
annual Christmas Party on November 27. We will
be calling our members if they will be joining us
as the board will pick out a fabulous meal so
everyone can enjoy. I’m hoping all will come out
to enjoy our festive dinner.
