Die gestalterische Kraft von Michael Siegers Arbeit entspringt unter anderem seiner Affinität zu geometrischen Figuren. Die Formenwelt, die er für MY CHINA! gefunden hat, verdeutlicht einmal mehr
seine Suche nach der perfekten Form. Ein Geschirr zu entwerfen bedeutete für den deutschen Designer
Michael Sieger nicht einfach die Gestaltung einzelner Teile, sondern es ging ihm darum, ein System
zu schaffen, das jedem einzelnen Teil mehrfache Einsatz- und Kombinationsmöglichkeiten verschaffte.
So entstand ein in seiner konzeptionellen Funktionalität bis dato einmaliges Porzellan.
In seinen Arbeiten zeigte Michael Sieger immer wieder, wie eine intelligente Systematik die Basis für
hohe Funktionalität bilden kann. Nicht einzelne Objekte oder Produkte sind es, die diesen Designer
interessieren, sondern die Möglichkeit, für unterschiedliche Situationen die jeweils angemessene
Gestaltungslinie anzubieten. Das lässt dem Einzelnen die Freiheit, seinen individuellen Stil zu leben.

The creative power apparent in Michael Sieger‘s work springs from among other things his affinity to
geometrical figures. The world of shapes that he discovered for MY CHINA! is once again an expression
of his search for the perfect form. To this German designer, the development of a porcelain service did
not simply mean the creation of individual pieces but constituted the idea of a system that would
enable each separate item to be used in a variety of ways and combined with the other pieces in the
series. Thus a range of porcelain that to date is unique in its conceptual functionality has been
produced.
In his work, Michael Sieger has always demonstrated how an intelligent system is able to constitute the
basis for a high degree of functionality. It is not the individual objects or products that interest this

MY CHINA! ist ein Geschirr, das universell funktioniert, ohne je die Sphäre von Exklusivität und Wertig­
­ eit zu verlassen. Zwei Grundformen bilden das Rückgrat dieses Services: die in ihrer Linienführung

geschwungene Coup-Form und die architektonisch geradlinige zylindrische Form. Untereinander
kombiniert, entstehen allein bei diesem Spiel mit den Formen je unterschiedlich akzentuierte Tischarrangements. Cloches werden je nach Größe im Handumdrehen zu Schüssel oder Schale, und jeder
Teller kann auch immer Unterteller für die je kleineren Teller und zahlreiche andere Einzelteile sein,
um nur einige Beispiele der vielfältigen Kombinationsmöglichkeiten zu nennen. Ziel war es, mit
MY CHINA!, ein Porzellan zu schaffen, das wechselnden Bedürfnissen moderner Tischkultur entspricht,
ein Maximum an gestalterischer Freiheit ermöglicht und dabei immer vollendeten Stil zelebriert.
Universal concept. MY CHINA! is tableware that works universally without it, however, leaving the
sphere of exclusiveness and top quality. Two basic shapes constitute the foundation for this service:
the coup shape with its curving line and the architecturally straight shape of the cylinder. The interaction when these two shapes are juxtaposed with each other alone allows variously accentuated table
arrangements to be created. Depending on their sizes, cloches may easily be turned into bowls or
dishes and each plate may always be used as the bottom plates for the next smaller plates and many
other individual pieces – to mention but a few examples of the many different types of juxtaposition.
The intention with MY CHINA! was to create a porcelain that is able to satisfy the changing demands
of modern table culture while permitting a maximum of creative freedom and thus the celebration of
an always perfect style.

Die Manufaktur
H a n dw e r k li c h e M e i st e r scha ft
Manufakturporzellan bedeutet im Wesentlichen Handarbeit. In der Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG
geht ein Porzellanobjekt durch zahlreiche Hände, bis am Ende ein einmaliges Produkt entstanden ist.
Schon die Umsetzung der Entwurfszeichnung in ein dreidimensionales Gipsmodell erfordert hohes
handwerkliches Können. Flüssige Porzellanmasse verwandelt sich, in die Hohlform gegossen, durch
Feuchtigkeitsverlust in einen festen Porzellanrohling. Um makellose Oberflächen zu erhalten, wird
jeder einzelne Rohling nach dem ersten Glühbrand mit Schwämmen und feinen Messerchen behandelt
und anschließend glasiert. Der abschließende Glattbrand bei 1.400 Grad sorgt für endgültige Aushärtung. Rein weiß schimmernd oder von Porzellanmalern sorgfältig dekoriert verlassen die wertvollen
Porzellanteile den Brennofen.
The porcelain makers – master craftsmanship. Crafted porcelain is in the main produced by hand. At
Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG, an item of porcelain passes through many hands before a
unique product comes out at the end. Even the production of three-dimensional plaster models from
the design drawings demands high levels of craftsmanship. After it has been cast into hollow moulds,
liquid porcelain paste transforms as the moisture escapes into solid raw pieces of porcelain. After
biscuit firing, in order to achieve the perfect finishes, each raw piece is treated with sponges and finest
cutters and then glazed. The concluding glost firing at 1400° C produces the final hardening. Shimmering in pure white or carefully decorated by porcelain painters, the valuable porcelain pieces are
then carefully removed from the kiln.

Die Porzelliner von FÜRSTENBERG schreiben eine 260-jährige Geschichte der Porzellanherstellung
fort. Ihre Erfahrung, ihre Leidenschaft für hochwertiges Manufakturporzellan und der hohe Anspruch
an die Verarbeitungsqualität macht die Manufaktur zu einem idealen Partner. Die exakte Geometrie
und Passgenauigkeit, die MY CHINA! ausmachen, stellte die Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG
allerdings vor eine ihrer größten handwerklichen Herausforderungen. Hunderte von Modellen und
viele Probebrände waren nötig, um zu einem optimalen Ergebnis zu kommen. Die extreme Dünnwandigkeit des Geschirrs treibt die handwerklichen Anforderungen auf die Spitze: So macht beispielsweise eine Wandstärke von stellenweise nur 2,5 mm eine Glasur der Tassen und Schalen im Glasurbad
unmöglich; eine Sprühglasur, einzeln und von Hand aufgetragen, ist erforderlich. Die Aussparungen
des Brotkorbes werden ebenfalls von Hand vorgenommen, Dekore mit Platin oder Mattgold tragen
die Porzellanmaler der Manufaktur mit präzisem Pinselstrich auf.
Eine solche Meisterschaft im Handwerk ist nur mit Menschen möglich, die in ihrem Beruf auch Erfüllung
suchen und finden. Die Manufaktur FÜRSTENBERG in Deutschland gehört zu den ältesten Europas.
Auch vor diesem Hintergrund ist MY CHINA! ein Geschirr von hohem Wert: Eine Formensprache, die

The porcelain makers at FÜRSTENBERG are continuing their 260-year tradition of porcelain production.
Their experience, their passion for high-quality crafted porcelain and the high demands they place on
production quality make them the ideal partner. But with the precise geometry and precision fits that
characterize MY CHINA!, Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG found that it had come up against one
of the most serious challenges to its mastery of craftsmanship that it had ever faced. Hundreds of
models and many test firings were necessary to produce the best possible results. The tableware‘s
extreme delicacy drove the demands on craftsmanship to a peak: for instance, a wall thickness of just
2.5 mm in some areas made it impossible to apply the glaze by immersing the cups and bowls in a
glaze bath – the glaze had to be sprayed by hand on to each individual piece. The fretwork on the
bread baskets is also executed by hand and the platinum or mat gold decorations are applied with
precision brushstrokes by porcelain painters.
Such mastery in craftsmanship can only be achieved by people who look for and find fulfilment in their
chosen professions. Porzellanmanufaktur FÜRSTENBERG in Germany is one of the oldest porcelain

oder Schale sein, die Teller sind so bemessen, dass sie zu Untertellern für viele andere Teile des Geschirrs
werden, den unterschiedlichen Tassen stehen mehrere Untertassen zur Verfügung und selbst die
Vorspeisenschalen sind exakt dem Radius der Teller angepasst.
Weitere Möglichkeiten der Tischinszenierung ergeben sich durch die Zusammenstellung unterschiedlicher Dekore – in all seinen Ausprägungen ist MY CHINA! immer mit sich selbst kombinierbar.
Combinations. MY CHINA! is a service that has made flexibility its credo. Diameters and sizes have
been coordinated in such a way as to make it possible to use many individual pieces in several settings.
To name just some of the opportunities the service presents: a cloche can always be a dish or a bowl,
the plates have been dimensioned in such a way that they may be used as bottom plates for many
other items in the set, the different cups possess a variety of saucers and even the hors d’oeuvre
dishes have been adapted precisely to the plates’ diameters.
Many more possibilities for staging tables may be utilized by combining the different designs – in all
its versions, MY CHINA! is never lost for an opportunity to be combined with itself.

gottgewollt. Ist es aber nicht, denn die Becher „Sip of Gold“ wurden eigens für Champagner kreiert:
Das Gold ihrer Wände reflektiert sein prickelndes Funkeln, im feinsten Porzellan spiegelt sich seine
Leichtigkeit wider. Insbesondere die aufwändig modellierten Reliefs vermitteln die Gewissheit, nicht

It is said that champagne is the drink of the gods. But what do they drink it from? We humans usually
drink it – at least here on earth – with a glass, a flute or a goblet. As if it was God’s will. But it’s not.
Because the “Sip of Gold” beakers have been created especially with champagne in mind: the gold
applied to their sides reflects champagne’s tingly sparkling with its lightness also being mirrored in
this most delicate of porcelain. Particularly, the intricately formed reliefs convey the assuredness that

zu philosophieren. Persische Dichter erblickten im Becher gar den „Spiegel der Welt“, und Michael
Sieger widmet ihm das schönste Gefühl überhaupt: die Liebe. „Liebestrank“ symbolisiert diese
einzigartige Paarbeziehung durch zwei miteinander korrespondierende Becher, die mit dem Porträt
ihres jeweiligen Pendants verziert sind. Allein für sich vermittelt jedes dieser Objekte die Kraft einer
schlichten Skulptur, zu zweit entwickeln sie aber den Zauber und die Faszination einer innigen

The beaker is a symbol of life but also a symbol of love and desire. Its universal shape has caused
cultures all over the world and throughout the ages to reflect on the meaning of this type of vessel.
Persian poets even saw the “mirror of the world” in beakers and Michael Sieger has dedicated the
most beautiful feeling of all to it: love. “Love Potion” symbolizes the unique relationship that exists
between couples with two corresponding beakers each adorned with the portraits of their respective

Beachtung. Mit seinen meisterhaft gearbeiteten Durchbrüchen und der sich so ergebenden filigranen
Struktur wird diese Variante eines Korbes aus Porzellan zu einem der erstaunlichsten Elemente des
Tischdekors: ein ebenso feines wie fragiles Objekt perfekter Manufakturarbeit, das sich mit dem

Manchmal taucht etwas auf, ganz überraschend. An Orten, wo niemand damit gerechnet hätte. Zum
Beispiel ein kleines Krokodil – einfach so, neben dem Teller. Als sei es gerade eben durch die Tisch­
decke ans Tageslicht gestoßen – ein Teil des Körpers noch unter der Oberfläche verborgen. Vielleicht
ist es aber auch ein Nilpferd, leicht erkennbar an den präzise gearbeiteten Nackenfalten. Oder der
Eisbär mit seinem filigran modellierten Fell. Auf der gedeckten Tafel leistet diese fröhliche Menagerie

Sometimes something turns up entirely surprisingly. At places no one would have expected. For
instance, a little crocodile – just there, next to the plate. As if it had simply crawled through the tablecloth into the daylight – part of its body still submersed beneath the surface. But perhaps it’s also a
hippo, easily recognizable by the precisely worked folds in the neck. Or the polar bear with its delicately

The enjoyment of tea is the epitome of heavenly enjoyment: a pleasure that may hardly be expressed
in words and that stimulates the imagination, the fragrance of freshly made tea can send people off
into a world of their own. « Ciel Bleu » reflects the soul of this mythical beverage: A tea service in a
heavenly design applied for SIEGER by FÜRSTENBERG by hand by a porcelain painter using a complex dabbing technique.
Each service is therefore a one-off – as unique as each individual cloud in the sky. Before and after the
tea ceremony, the pot, cups and saucers rest in a specially made case also decorated in the sky design,
which finds space on a red presentation table. An approach that stimulates the senses – just like the
perfect tea pleasure for which « Ciel Bleu » was created.

tisch, wo das Ei den Anfang des Tages markiert und schon am frühen Morgen in seiner wärmenden
Hülle aus edlem Porzellan bezaubernde Geschmacksnoten setzt. Wobei natürlich auch Dips und

Sharp-edged, geometric, precise – the effect of the “Star” collection is a result of reduction. In pure
white or in a highly contrasting gold and black look, the vases, candleholders, bowl, candle lamp and
fragrance vase constitute a fixed point for the eye. The collection is based on the eight-pointed star,
which combines all fundamental geometrical shapes within it to create a powerful shape and which is
simultaneously also SIEGER’s trademark. Made from high-quality crafted porcelain, the white objects
radiate minimalist coolness. The items decorated in black and gold, on the other hand, impress with their
intentional opulence: the black of the night is juxtaposed with pure hand-applied 24-carat gold. The
realization of the geometric shapes in hard porcelain posed an unexpected challenge to the experts at

Schon als Jugendlicher entwarf Michael Sieger für renommierte Firmen wie den Sanitärhersteller
Dornbracht, gestaltete Innenräume von Szene-Bars und beriet Kunden der von seinem Vater gegrün­
deten Designfirma. Mit wachsender Erfahrung bildete er seine typische Handschrift heraus, die ihn
inzwischen zu einem unverwechselbaren Designer macht, der längst auch internationale Anerken­
nung findet. Ausstellungen mit anderen großen Vertretern der Branche und die regelmäßige Teilnahme
an hochkarätig besetzten Podien zeugen vom Renommee des gebürtigen Westfalen. Trotz aller
Erfolge bleibt er mit seinem unermüdlichen Willen zur Ästhetik stets auf der Suche nach noch besseren
Lösungen. Michael Siegers Begeisterung für die perfekte Form und seine Liebe zum kleinsten Detail

Even as an adolescent, Michael Sieger, who was born in Westphalia, designed objects for such famous
companies as Dornbracht, created the interiors of fashionable bars and advised clients to the design
agency established by his father. His typical style developed with increasing experience makes his
work, which enjoys international recognition, unmistakeable. Exhibitions with other big names in design
and regular participation in top-class panels are evidence of his esteem. In spite of his success, he
continues to search continuously for even better solutions and tirelessly strives towards a greater
aesthetic. Michael Sieger’s fascination for the perfect shape and his love of even the finest of details are
also shared by his team – a fact that is convincingly reflected in SIEGER products.

Handwerkliche Meisterschaft
Manufakturporzellan entsteht in aufwändiger Handarbeit: Bei FÜRSTENBERG geht jedes Stück durch
zahlreiche fachmännische Hände, bevor es als Unikat die Porzellanmanufaktur verlässt. Schon das
Umsetzen der Entwurfszeichnung in ein dreidimensionales Gipsmodell erfordert hohes handwerkliches
Können. Flüssige Porzellanmasse verwandelt sich, in die Hohlform gegossen, durch Feuchtigkeits­
verlust in einen festen Porzellanrohling. Um makellose Oberflächen zu erhalten, wird jeder einzelne
davon nach dem ersten Glühbrand mit Schwämmen und feinen Messerchen behandelt und anschlie­
ßend glasiert. Der abschließende Glattbrand bei 1.400 Grad sorgt für endgültige Aushärtung. Das
Ergebnis sind wertvolle Porzellanobjekte – rein weiß schimmernd oder zuvor von Porzellanmalern
künstlerisch dekoriert.
The porcelain makers – master craftsmanship. Crafted porcelain is made by hand using complex
methods: At FÜRSTENBERG, each item passes through many skilled hands before it leaves the workshops as a unique piece of work. Even the production of three-dimensional plaster models from the
design drawings demands high levels of craftsmanship. After it has been cast into hollow moulds,
liquid porcelain paste transforms as the moisture escapes into solid raw pieces of porcelain. In order
to achieve perfect finishes each unfinished piece is after the biscuit firing process treated with sponges
and finest cutters and then glazed. The concluding glost firing at 1,400° C produces the final hardening.
Which all results in finest porcelain objects – shimmering in pure white or artistically decorated by
porcelain painters.

weile 260 Jahre alte Tradition des Hauses in der Porzellanherstellung fortführen. Ihre Erfahrung und
ihre Leidenschaft für höchste Qualität in Material und Verarbeitung machen die Manufaktur aus
Fürstenberg an der Weser – eine der ältesten Europas – zum idealen Partner für SIEGER. Die exakte
Geometrie, wie sie etwa für die Objekte der „Star“ Serie erforderlich ist, hat sogar so erfahrene Meister
ihres Fachs wie jene bei FÜRSTENBERG vor eine ihrer größten handwerklichen Herausforderungen
gestellt. Hunderte von Modellen und viele Probebrände waren nötig, um ein optimales Ergebnis zu
bekommen. Denn auch die extreme Dünnwandigkeit der „Sip of Gold“ oder „Desire“ Becher treibt
handwerkliche Anforderungen auf die Spitze. So macht etwa eine Wandstärke von stellenweise nur
2,5 Milimetern eine Glasur der zerbrechlichen Stücke im üblichen Glasurbad unmöglich; eine Sprüh­
glasur, einzeln und von Hand aufgetragen, ist erforderlich. Die Aussparungen des Brotkorbes werden
ebenfalls von Hand vorgenommen, Dekore mit Platin oder Mattgold tragen die Porzellanmaler der
Manufaktur mit präzisem Pinselstrich auf. Nur wer in seinem Beruf Erfüllung findet und ganz darin
aufgeht, ist überhaupt zu solch handwerklicher Meisterschaft in der Lage.
The porcelain makers at FÜRSTENBERG are aware of their responsibility – after all, it is they who are
continuing the company’s 260 years of tradition in porcelain production. Their experience and their
passion for highest quality in material and workmanship make this top-class manufacturer in Fürstenberg on the banks of the River Weser – one of the oldest in Europe – the ideal partner for SIEGER. The
precise geometry as required, for example, by the objects in the “Star” range even demanded the
utmost from such experienced masters of their craft as those employed at FÜRSTENBERG. Hundreds
of models and many test firings were necessary to produce the best possible results. Because even
the extremely thin walls of the “Sip of Gold” and “Desire” beakers place highest demands on their
skills. For instance, a wall thickness of just 2.5 millimetres in some areas makes it impossible to apply
the glaze by immersing the fragile items in conventionally used glaze baths – the glaze has to be
sprayed by hand on to each individual piece. The fretwork on the bread baskets is also executed by
hand with the platinum and matt gold decorations also being applied with precision brushstrokes by
porcelain painters. Only those who find fulfilment in their professions and who are able to become
completely absorbed are able to achieve such mastery of their craft.
