I’m now back from all of my vacationing, and the program year has begun.
Lots of meetings and gatherings that take a summer break are now resuming.
As I type this, there are still a few lingering things that I need to get caught up
on from my time away, but for the most part, I am back. I’m also glad to have
Msgr. Swetland back for the program year, as his summer traveling has also
come to an end. Once again, he will celebrating the English morning Masses
roughly every other week.
Next week, Joe Akers from For the Greater will be at the Masses to speak
about the feasibility study that we are conducting this month (Mireya will
speak at the Spanish Masses). We hope to undertake a capital campaign in
the Fall. He will explain the process and invite everyone to take part in a survey. For us to have the most accurate data, it is crucial that as many people
participate in the process as possible.
I’m excited to begin my 8th year here as pastor. I officially started on August
20th, 2009. As I’ve been a priest for 13 years, the majority of my time as a
priest has now been at OLU. Lots of things have happened in the past 7 years,
and my first years here seem like a long time ago now. I am grateful to everyone who has weathered the storms of change over the past seven years. I believe our parish is in a good position for a really positive future.

Ya estoy de vuelta de todo mi Vacacionar, y el año de programa ha comenzado. Varias juntas y reuniones que toman unas vacaciones de verano están
reanudando. Mientras escribo esto, todavía hay algunas cosas persistentes
que necesito para ponerme al día de mi tiempo fuera, pero en su mayor parte,
estoy de vuelta. También estoy feliz de tener a Mons. Swetland de vuelta para
el año de programa, como su viaje de verano también ha llegado a su fin. Una
vez más, va a celebrar las misas de la mañana en inglés aproximadamente
cada dos semanas.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION
Please note that since the feast of the Assumption on
August 15th falls on a Monday this year, the obligation
to attend Mass on that day is lifted. However, Mass will
be offered in English at Sacred Heart at 8:15 and 6pm
at St. John in Spanish.

CONFIRMATION 2016-2017
Interviews for Confirmation have begun. Please call the
parish office to set up an interview. Cost is $100 per
child or $150 per family. Please bring the child's baptismal certificate and the payment to the interview.
This year our School of Religion will be 2 years, both
for First Communion and Confirmation. For Confirmation the child must be between 7th— 12th grade.
SCHOOL OF RELIGION CLASSES
Registration for SOR, (grades 1st – 6th), will be this
and next weekend after Sunday Masses in the church
basement (SJE or SH). SOR for 1st Communion program is now a 2 year program. It is also a Family Catechesis program and PARENTS MUST ATTEND.
Please bring a copy of child’s baptismal certificate and
payment for registration. Cost is $100 per child or
$150 per family per year for OLU registered parish
members.
FALL CYO SPORTS REGISTRATION OPEN
Register for volleyball, cross country or football. New
this year: all participants must have a preparticipation physical to play. Registration fee is
$40.00 per participant which covers the school year;
registrations must be done online. Visit the website

RCIA IN ENGLISH
If you are interested in becoming a Catholic or are a
Catholic needing Confirmation and/or First Communion, then we have an excellent program to assist you
in your journey. Classes will begin on Wednesday,
September 14th, at 7pm in the basement of the church
rectory/offices. All are welcome. It would be helpful if
you would contact Fr. Kent or Paco Tarelo before the
classes, so that they will know that you are coming.

CONFIRMACIÓN PARA EL 2016-2017
Las entrevistas para la Confirmación ya comenzaron.

UNITY FEST 2016 MEETINGS
The Unity Fest 2016 meetings will be held every Tuesday, starting on August 9, through September 6.
Please join us and bring your ideas as we plan this
year’s event. We are always looking for more volunteers. With your help we can make this event even better. Reminder that this year’s Unity Fest is September
10, 2016.

QUINCEAÑERA RETREAT
Next retreat for any girl that plans to celebrate her
quinceañera will be August 20 & 21, at St. Mary’s– St.
Anthony. To register your daughter, please stop by
your parish office and pick up a registration form and
confirm your quinceañera Mass date. The cost for the
retreat is $30.00 per girl. Please don’t wait until the
last minute to register. We do have limited space. For

CROWNING OF MARY & PRO-LIFE RALLY
Save the date! August 22, at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart.
This will be our very first ever August Crowning of the
Blessed Virgin and pro-life rally. We have a special
guest coming to celebrate with us, Archbishop Emeritus James Keleher! Rally will be in both Spanish and
English.
UNITY FEST MINI SOCCER TOURNAMENT
The organizing committee of Unity Fest 2016 will be
hosting a Mini Soccer Tournament on September 10,
during the festival. We are inviting all members of our
parish to participate in this competition, and we will be
inviting other parishes to participate as well. To form
the teams, we will have four categories; children from
10 to 14 years, teens 15 to 18 years, women and
adults. There will be top three places in each category.
You can register for your team after the 8 a.m. Mass
and the 4 p.m. Mass the following Sundays until the

MINI TORNEO DE FUTBOL DE UNITY FEST
El comité organizador del Unity Fest 2016 será la anfitriona de un mini torneo de fútbol el 10 de septiembre
