MENSAJE IMPORTANTE DE PADRE VAUGHN WINTERS
It is with sadness that I have to announce that our Associate Pastor
Father Noe Sanchez has been transferred to work in St Joseph's
Church in Pomona. The Archdiocese has decided that this parish has
a greater need and his priestly ministry is more greatly needed
there. This change comes as a great surprise to me as I am sure it
also does to all of you. Father Noe did a great job here as you know
and he will be greatly missed. Please pray for him in this transition
time and for all your priests here at St. Mary's as well. Meeting the
pastoral needs of the parish will be very challenging without
Father Noe.
Es con tristeza que tengo que anunciar que nuestro Pastor Asociado
Padre Noe Sanchez ha sido trasladado a trabajar en la iglesia de San
José, en Pomona. La Arquidiócesis ha decidido que esta parroquia tiene

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Muchos conocemos la historia de la Virgen de Guadalupe en el Tepeyac, pero
ignoramos que en Extremadura, España ya había una imagen de la Virgen
con el nombre de Guadalupe. En 1252, la Virgen se le apareció al campesino
Gil Cordero pidiéndole que trajera a los sacerdotes del pueblo para que escarbaran al lado del Guadalupe (río escondido). Al hacerlo, encontraron
una pequeña estatua morena de la misma Virgen. Esta imagen, según la documentación enterrada con ella, la cual también relata su origen, fue escondida
durante el ataque de los moros en el año 711. Había sido un regalo del Papa
Gregorio Magno al obispo de Sevilla después de que había resultado
milagrosa. Su primer milagro fue el salvar al pueblo romano de una plaga en el
año 591. Cuando la llevaron en procesión alrededor del castillo papal se apareció un arcángel que luego terminó la plaga. Esta misma imagen fue un regalo
al Papa Pelagio II traída de Constantinopla donde había sido trasladada con
los restos del evangelista san Lucas en el siglo IV. Estaba con los restos de
este santo porque él mismo la había esculpido en el primer siglo.

TONY MELENDEZ CONCERT HERE AT ST. MARY’S
“A Gift of Love Concert”

Tony was born without arms in 1962 as a result of his mother taking the prescription drug,
Thalidimide.
Today, Tony is known around the world for playing the guitar with his feet, In 1985, Tony began playing and singing in the Los Angeles area. Just two years later, his life was changed
forever when he performed for the Pope before a live audience of 6,000 people and a TV
audience of millions. He performed a touching song entitled “Never be the Same”. This was
an appropriate song, for those few moments changed Tony’s life and brought his unrestrained
abilities as guitarist into national attention. It seems to be a fitting place for a man who has
spent his life putting personal confidence above his handicap. A highly talented composer
and musician, Tony has recorded among others the following songs: “hands in Heaven”,
“Lowly Servant”, “everybody Sing” “Love is an Answer”, “I wish I could Hold You” , “Hands in
Heaven” and “”You are my God”.
Saint Mary’s Church will be transformed again as Tony and his band Toe Jam perform live
with their uplifting inspirational music on February 9, 2014 in a 90 minute Concert starting at
7:30 P.M.

Tony nació sin brazos en el año 1962, como consecuencia que a su madre le suministraron una medicina llamada Talidomina estando embarazada.
Hoy Tony es internacionalmente conocido por su habilidad de tocar la guitarra con sus pies. En el año 1985 Tony empezo a tocar la guitarra y a
cantar en el area de los Angeles. Dos años mas tarde, su vida cambió para siempre, cuando cantó para el Papa Juan Pablo II con una audiencia
de 6,000 personas y frente a millones de televidentes. El presento una canción conmovedora llamada “Nunca más sera lo mismo”. Siendo esta
muy apropiada, pues esos pocos momentos cambiarón la vida de Tony y trajo a la luz del público sus inmenzas habilidades como guitarrista
atrayendo la atención del mundo. Parece ser la oportunidad perfecta para darle lugar a un hombre que ha dedicado su vida poniendo confidencia
personal por encima de su incapacidad.
Como un compositor y musico altamente talentoso, tony ha grabado entre muchas las siguientes canciones: “Tu eres mi Dios”, “Despedida”,
“Manos en el Cielo”, “Siervo Solitario”, “Canten Todos”, “El Amor es la Respuesta” y “Desearía poder abrazarte”.
La Iglesia Santa María será transformada una vez mas al presenter a Tony y su Banda Toe Jam en un concierto en Vivo, donde cantará su
música y nos inspirará en una noche que nunca olvidaremos.
Será el 9 de Febrero del 2014, en un concierto de 90 minutos que empezará a las 7:30 P.M.

VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children™ Program
Protecting God's Children Adult Awareness Session is a three-hour training
that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and myths about child
abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults can take five important steps to keep children safe. The parent session also stresses
monitoring of computers, cell phones and other technology that perpetrators use to gain access to children and young people.

Santa Safety
Here are some simple guidelines for parents, guardians, and grandparents to employ to make sure that children have
a safe and happy visit with Santa’s helper: When your child is with Santa’s helper, consider encouraging him or her
to stand next to Santa or sit on the floor between his feet rather than sitting on his lap. Let your child know that it’s
okay to tell Santa what he or she wants for Christmas but that he or she should also tell mom and dad because they
are also Santa’s helpers…Secret surprises are special but no adult should ask a child to keep secrets from the child’s
parents. Make sure that the Santa visit is out in the open—or make sure that parents, guardians, and grandparents are
included in the interaction.

Aquí presentamos unas instrucciones sencillas para uso de los padres, guardianes y abuelos para asegurar que los

también son ayudantes de Santa … Las sorpresas secretas son especiales, pero ningún adulto debe pedirle a un niño
que tenga secretos con sus padres. Asegúrese que la visita de Santa sea en un espacio abierto, o que los padres, guardianes y abuelos estén incluidos en la actividad.
