Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation, Inc. Annual
Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation, Inc.
2014 Annual Report
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Brothers, Family, and Friends of Alpha Chi Rho:
In recent years we, at the Foundation, have learned how to do
the same with less. Generally, contributions and investment
revenue were down due to the economy. As Trustees, we are
committed to investing in our own growth to meet the needs of
our members.

Doing this is not easy nor is it without cost. To accomplish this,
the Foundation endowment must grow to continue to meet the
needs of those we are here to support. I know we can do this, as
the Foundation has done since 1950. “Cultivating Men of Word
and Deed” is a fundamental cornerstone of Alpha Chi Rho.
The Alpha Chi Rho Educational
Foundation, Inc. is a public charity.
Donations are recognized as exempt
from federal income tax under section
501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Trustees have decided that we must keep our focus narrow.
With that in mind, we have set a goal to improve relationships
with our members and do what needs to be done to attract new
donors. We need to increase the number of members who
donate and the average annual gift. This will help us keep pace
with the demand for grants supporting educational programs at
the Chapter level. We will also focus on encouraging the
Chapters to start endowments of their own in partnership with
the Foundation. This will create stronger Chapters and, in turn, a
stronger Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity and Foundation.
ALPHA CHI RHO
EDUCATIONAL
FOUNDATION, INC.
The Foundation is “All In” with this and has started investing in
our future. We hope you will help as well, by volunteering and
donating regularly. 2015 can be a banner year for the Alpha Chi
Rho Educational Foundation. Helping Brothers to “Be Men” is
our charge and yours as well.
In The Bond,
Gary
Gary DelPiano
President

2014 Scholarship Winners
The Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation has awarded the 2014 scholarships. These scholarships
are awarded to both undergraduates and graduates based on academic achievement, leadership
and community service. The Foundation was proud to support and encourage the following
Brothers for demonstrating achievement in all of these areas.
Graduate Scholarships
SAMMY E. ANZER
Wilbur M. “Curly” Walden Award
Stonybrook University – January 2011 – Major: Sociology and Media
Studies
Currently enrolled at Union University – Masters in Urban Education
Sam wrote: The AXPEF scholarship means more to me than a grant. During my undergrad years, Alpha
Chi Rho gave me a sense of belonging and purpose in my college and community. Now that I'm a
graduate student teaching high school English in Tennessee, the Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation
has given me their vote of confidence by helping me ease into moving 1,000 miles from home to
become a meaningful part of the bridge to education equality in the United States.
A professor wrote: “Professional, committed and learner are just a few of the attributes that make
Sammy ideal for your program. Sammy has shown himself to be a committed learner with a strong
desire to have a positive impact on the lives of students in urban schools. His academic work has been
of the highest caliber.”
STEVEN R. FISHER
Stanley G. Bedford Award
SUNY / Geneseo – May 2013 – Major: History/International Relations
Currently enrolled at SUNY Buffalo Law School – Juris Doctor
Internship with US Magistrate Christian F. Hummel in the Northern
District of New York – summer 2014.
Steven wrote: While at Geneseo, I made one of the best decisions of my life; I became a Brother of
Alpha Chi Rho. The structure and inter-competitiveness of my Chapter helped me to elevate my grades
and prepare for law school.
Judge Hummel wrote: “The quality, speed, and dedication upon which Mr. Fisher handles his
assignments have exceeded my expectations of a rising second-year law student … he has proved to be
a highly focused and principled individual. I have no doubt he will be a valuable contribution to the
legal profession.”
ALEXANDER D. MUIR
F. Prescott Hammond Award
Worcester Polytechnic Institute – May 2010 – Major: Society Technology
and Policy
Currently enrolled at Northeastern University – Master of Business
Administration
Alexander wrote: The scholarship from the Alpha Chi Rho Educational
Foundation means a lot to me. We've just moved back to the US after
living for four years in China. We're paying for my degree entirely on our
own, so we're really counting on scholarships like the one from AXPEF to
ease the financial burden. I'm looking forward to being able to give back
to the Foundation after graduation.
DOMINIC J. MASCOLO
Donald F. Jones Graduate Award
Rutgers University – May 2008 – Major: Finance
Currently enrolled at University of Florida – Master of Business
Administration
Dominic wrote: I have gained so many positive life experiences by being a member of Alpha Chi Rho at
Rutgers University. The diverse group of people I have met and friendships I have made are
undeniably the greatest benefit of being a Brother in a national fraternity like Alpha Chi Rho. I plan to
use the scholarship money from the Educational Foundation to pursue another rewarding and
beneficial educational experience.
An employer wrote: “Dominic has shown me that he is a dedicated employee who has an excellent
work ethic. He has consistently taken on every challenging assignment I have given him and by doing
so he has gained the trust of myself and senior management in our organization.”
Undergraduate Scholarships
GEORGE Y. LI
Paul K. Addams Award
University of Pennsylvania – May 2015 – Major: Finance
Internship with Anheuser-Busch – summer 2014
George wrote: “I now recognize that aside from being a brotherhood, a
fraternity is still an organization like any other organization. This means that at every level, Brothers
need to be engaged and aligned to the fraternity’s goals and values.”
A professor wrote: “George excelled in his studies … he always arrived prompt and prepared … his
achievements demonstrate that he is very diligent and takes everything he is committed to seriously.”
CHRISTOPHER D. KELLEY
James McFadden Award
Robert Morris University – Spring 2015 – Major: General Psychology
Chris wrote: “I joined the best fraternity my school had to offer … my
opportunities have been limitless, and I’m pleased to say that my
brotherhood has taught me many things and showed me what it’s like to
have brothers when I grew up with none. My original plan for this
semester was to commute; however, Brother Michael Fraser, after his
incident, needed someone to live with. At the time of his request, all the
Brothers at RMU were currently locked into their housing situation. Even
though deciding to live with Mike would be financially hindering, the “no
Brother left behind” mentality (as well as the life experience) would be
well worth the price tag when looking back over the years. This scholarship not only helped me to stay
in school, it helped me make a best friend; and for that, I am forever grateful.”
The Director of ADAC Children’s Ministries wrote: “Christopher was a faithful and dedicated counselor
… his obvious concern and love for our children and his fellow peers was a great asset to the program
…. he oversees the children in his class with loving authority and concern for detail, ensuring that their
needs are met, physically, emotionally and spiritually. He is always willing to assist in any way and
does so cheerfully. His maturity is far above the average college-aged volunteer.”
DANIEL J. CAMPBELL
John C. Enk Award
New York Institute of Technology – May 2015 – Major: Pre-medical
Daniel wrote: “I want to thank the Alpha Chi Rho Educational
Foundation and John C. Enk Foundation for bestowing this award to
me. This scholarship will serve not only as a symbol of hard work and
dedication but also as a remembrance of the close knit bond Brothers of Alpha Chi Rho possess. I am
truly grateful for this award and this scholarship will be used to pay off my final semester as an
undergraduate at New York Institute of Technology.
An associate professor in the Department of Anatomy at the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine
wrote: “Daniel dove into his research project enthusiastically. He is a quick learner and easily
developed an excellent grasp of the questions, the methods and the ultimate aims of the project.
Daniel has a pleasant, easy going, and jovial personality and I enjoy conversing with him for long
periods of time on just about any topic. He is bright, inquisitive and asks questions about everything
imaginable. He is pursuing medical school very seriously and I have no reservations about Daniel’s
ability to succeed in medical school or any other endeavor he seeks out.”
DANIEL P. PALMATEER
Richard V. Olson Award
SUNY / Geneseo – May 2015 – Major: Mathematics / Economics
Daniel wrote: “I have made it a major priority in my life to fund my
education on my own, and this scholarship is really the only thing that
is making that perpetually possible. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all the contributors who make these
scholarships possible, as well as the people who work hard to look
through the applications and make the selections for the recipients. I
have worked hard to have the opportunity to pursue continuing
education and now this scholarship is making that opportunity feasible. I am grateful to the Alpha Chi
Rho Educational Foundation and Richard V. Olson for this scholarship, and I will continue to put forth
my best effort to make the fraternity proud into the future.
An employer wrote: “Dan has always been an ideal employee, he is always on time, has tremendous
enthusiasm and a great attitude. He is extremely pro-active, self-sufficient and internally motivated.
Dan requires very little direct supervision; he always anticipates what needs to be done and does it.
He makes good decisions and possesses a maturity beyond his years. More importantly, I have always
known him to be honest, forthright and completely straightforward in his dealings with others.”
KERRY BROWN
Donald F. Jones Undergraduate Award
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – December 2015 – Major: Economics /
Applied Mathematics
Kerry wrote: For me, winning the AXPEF Scholarship represents an
opportunity to focus more on my academic and fraternal lives and less
on worrying about how I'm going to fund my college education. This scholarship is very useful to me
because I come from a low-income family with two children (my brother and myself) currently
attending college.
An assistant dean wrote: “I believe Kerry is one of our best and brightest students at Rensselaer and
his dedication to his studies is only matched by his brotherhood and our greater Greek community.”
JARED M. PLATT
Charles W. Coughlan Award
Utica College – 2015 – Major: Economic Crime Investigation
Jared wrote: Receiving the Coughlan scholarship is a great honor for
me. It signifies that my hard work has paid off and that the Alpha Chi
Rho Educational Foundation recognizes academic success. The
scholarship will be used to help pay for books in the upcoming
semester. However, to me the scholarship is less about the money and
more about the support that I receive from my fraternity. It means a lot
to know that they are willing to award me for my academic
achievements. It shows that they truly want me to be successful and want to help in any way they can.
BRANDON S. McTIGUE
R.B. Stewart Undergraduate Man of the Year
Gettysburg College – 2015 – Major: Philosophy / Sociology / Pre-Law
Brandon wrote:
Thank you so much for this opportunity. It means a great deal to me to
know that I, and thus my chapter, can receive such a distinguished
award.
Did you ever go to a
Convention or Conclave
as an undergraduate?
“I was fortunate enough to get this opportunity,
and what I learned there helped me throughout my life.”
