If you are going to enter any
wine competition this year,
this is the one to enter!
You are invited to enter the 16th Annual Finger Lakes
International Wine Competition to benefit Camp Good
Days, the world’s largest charitable wine competition!
This year’s competition will be held in
Rochester, NY, on March 18–20, 2016.
It is open to commercial wineries from
all producing countries.
TRULY AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
• In 2015, over 3,700 wines from 23 countries, 4 Canadian Provinces,
and 48 United States were entered in the competition.
• The finest collection of international judges ever assembled in the U.S.—
Last year’s competition boasted 72 judges from 17 countries representing
the best Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, sommeliers, educators,
enologists, winemakers, writers, importers, retailers and industry consultants.
• Since the beginning of our competition in 2000, we have maintained the highest
standards of national and international wine professionals for our judges.
HOW WE JUDGE YOUR WINES
• Each wine is judged on its own merit—its presence,
balance and varietal character—not by how it compares
to other wines in the flight.
• Each glass is labeled with this code number and the
judges are given a scoring sheet with the number and
the variety of the wine (i.e., Chardonnay).
• While it is common knowledge that wines go through
various stages of quality development, each wine
entered in FLIWC is judged for what it is at the time of
judging—not for what it might become in the future.
• All flights are staged in a separate back room and
delivered to the judging room. Re-pours, when necessary,
from a second unopened bottle are also staged in the
back room and delivered to the judging room.
• Wines are blind judged in flights, with each wine
identified only by a computer generated code number.
• All wines are presented to the
judges in Riedel crystal stemware.
SPECIAL AWARD CATEGORIES
• JOHN ROSE AWARD for the top Riesling. Gold-medalwinning Rieslings are judged again in a Finals Round
to select this year’s best Riesling. We award a unique,
handmade crystal goblet created by Corning Glass Works.
• Best-In-Class awards will be given in the following
categories: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot,
Cab Franc, Fruit Wine and Champagne/Sparkling, along
with their Double–Gold medals.
• CRYSTAL GRAPE AWARD for the top Ice Wine will be
selected from gold-medal-winning ice wines during a
Finals Round, and also receives a unique, handmade
crystal goblet created by Corning Glass Works.
• Medals are awarded for all Double-Gold, Gold, Silver,
and Bronze winning wines.
• All award-winning wines are featured on our web site
www.fliwc.com within one week of the competition.
Award-winning wines will be featured at several public events following the competition,
including a charitable gala to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times. The Finger Lakes
International Wine Auction and Dinner attracts more than 500 wine aficionados and collectors
who gather for a fun evening of wine tasting, dinner and an auction of medal wines, one-of-akind items, and wonderful experiences.

FULLY LICENSED:
Wineries outside of New York State: In order to conform to reciprocity laws, we have been issued licenses from the
Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (#NY-I-15473), IRS (#22-232-695-400), The NY State Liquor Authority
(#E528822) and the FDA registration (#10728385666), and are in compliance with the laws for shipping.
BIOTERRORISM ACT:
All wineries outside the United States: You will need to register with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to obtain a
“FURLS” (Electronic Registration & Listing System) number which, in turn, must be used to clear U.S. Customs and allow
the wine to enter the country, whether for sale or for competition purposes. This process is FREE OF CHARGE and may
be completed online at the FDA website http://www.access.fda.gov link from the FURLS headline in the left margin.
The agency simply needs this information to locate and interview company principals if there is ever a question of
possible contamination of the product. Compliance with this new legislation is required by U.S. law. Be sure the company
information in your FDA/FURLS application matches the information on your competition entry.
Be certain that your broker/importer or customs agent is working in compliance with the Bioterrorism Act to obtain and
use your FDA “FURLS” number on all documentation related to importing your wine and sending it to our consolidation
points. If you need assistance obtaining a U.S. FDA “FURLS” number, please contact Karl Rudolfs for assistance.
BROKER AND CUSTOMS FEES:
Please note that all customs or broker fees for any delivery or transit of wine to the consolidation point (Camp Good Days
and Special Times, c/o Finger Lakes International Wine Competition, Mendon, NY) must be paid by the winery or their
designated agent; otherwise, wines may be returned or refused. FLIWC is NOT responsible for any fees related
to OUTSTANDING CHARGES, CUSTOMS DUTIES OR SHIPPING FEES to the consolidation points.
