Our mission at Hambden is working with families and our community. Hambden Elementary strives to
promote responsibility and independent thinking through a safe and supportive environment.
Conference sheets have been sent home with set dates. If you did not receive one and
you would like a conference, please call the school office at 440-286-7503.
Dear Parents,
During the month of February, Chardon Local Schools, and in particular, Chardon High School will be promoting "A Month
of Caring." It is our desire to encourage all of our community to perform random acts of kindness throughout this
month. In memory of Danny, Russell, and Demetrious, Chardon High School will be challenging its student body and the
community partcipate in several service projects.
One project is to collect gently worn shoes for a service organization called Thinkkindness.org. Our goal is to collect 2,500
pairs of shoes in just 15 days! 20% of those shoes collected will stay right here locally to help those in need. The other 80%
will be distributed by the organization in developing countries around the world.
Hambden Elementary will partcipate in the collection as well. I invite you to send in gently worn shoes for donation to this
project. Shoes can be sent in beginning tomorrow, February 4, through Thursday, February 20. How many shoes can we
collect? This is a great way for your children to partcipate in a wonderful service project!
A second service project that Hambden will participate in will be a canned food collection for the food pantries of
Geauga County. This will take place February 18-February 21. More information will be forthcoming.

Hambden PTO in recognizing students with
specific traits that are spotlighted each

Peaceful Parenting
This is a 3-part parenting class for parents of children ages birth – 17. Learn
strategies for everyday parenting dilemmas and difficulties. The class is
offered on the following Tuesdays: February 25, March 4 & 11 (6pm – 8:30pm).

One School One Book
One School One Book is coming to Hambden Elementary again. Remember last year’s book “The Cricket in Times
Square”? Well, this February and March, we will do it again with a different book. On Friday, February 21, all students will
receive a copy of our book (the title is a secret, for now) for this year’s One School One Book (OSOB) as well as a calendar with the reading schedule. Please don’t read ahead, as part of the fun is to learn what happens together. Trivia
questions will be announced daily and prizes awarded. We are even having a contest which you will be learning about
later. Hurray for OSOB!!!

SEEKING MARDI GRAS DONATIONS Please help us support a great cause: our kids! We are looking to showcase your business or any local business through our Mardi Gras Magic event. Please consider supporting by
donating product, an advertising donation, or attending this fun evening. The funds collected from this event
will be used for continuing technology and field trips for the students. A donation letter came home last week

MARDI GRAS TICKETS Make it a date night! HPTO Mardi Gras Magic Reverse Raffle Auction
& Dinner tickets are on sale now! Flyers came home with your child. This fun adult only event
will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Huntsburg Twp. Community Center, 6-11pm.
Ticket price includes raffle ticket, dinner, unlimited beer, wine & soft drinks. $75/couple, $50/
single. Tickets can be purchased at our new PTO website: www.hambdenpto.org and CC

BOOK FAIR NEWS Book Fair dates are Wednesday, Feb. 19 through Wednesday, Feb. 26. We will be open
both nights of conferences and a breakfast will take place Thursday, Feb. 20.
BOX TOPS SNOWBALL FIGHT! Join our snowball fight!!!
The newest Box Tops contest is underway! Take aim
at the other classrooms until Thurs 2/20. Please remember to trim off excess paper/cardboard, throw
out expired Box Tops and don’t use staples on your
submissions. You can also submit your Box Tops in an
envelope or baggie, no need to fuss with affixing

Participants are given homework each week which is reviewed at the following class. The class is activity
based and parents practice each skill. Parents receive lots of materials to take home for reference to use as
children grow.
In Peaceful we have taken the best of many parenting programs currently in use including: Active Parenting,
Loving Solutions, the Parent Project, Love and Logic and added activities and other research-based information to make it as practical and parent-friendly as possible.
