ATTENTION INTEL EMPLOYEES!
IMPORTANT INTEL MATCHING
INFORMATION
Are You Spiritually Healthy?
Sometimes people will say, “I’ve
heard you speak three times and every
time you mention that ten minutes a
day idea!” I always ask them, “How
many days last week did you spend
ten minutes in quiet conversation with
God?” That gets them thinking. Then
they answer, usually vaguely and with some sort of
excuse attached. So, I’m going to keep talking about it
until we are all doing it every day!
Intel now matches donations up to $10,000 for each
active or retired blue badge employee per year: $5,000
for St. Pius X School, and another $5,000 to St. Pius X
Community Outreach. Your donations can be matched
two ways at intel.benevity.org:
1. You can make one-time or recurring donations with
a credit card, and these donations automatically
generate the Intel match.
2. You can upload receipts to request matching for
donations already made directly to our parish. Email
[email protected] if you’d like an extra
receipt to submit.
There are two reasons this theme keeps emerging in
my work. First, because this habit of prayer changed
my life. Second, because I know from personal
experience how hard it is to keep the habit going.
This is my biggest battle with resistance each day.
Resistance will fight me every time; it will never just
let me sit down and begin my prayer. It will try to
distract me and discourage me. It will do anything and
everything to prevent me from doing my prayer.
PARISH FACILITIES LEAD TESTING
In addition to the school lead testing that took place this
past summer, testing was completed for all other parish
buildings.
And if resistance cannot get me not to pray, it will get
me to delay, to put it off until later. Resistance knows
that delaying my prayer is as good as victory. Because
I will either rush it or do it poorly later, or I will delay
it further, putting it off at every opportunity all day
long, and then not do it at all. (Resisting Happiness, by
Matthew Kelly, pgs. 53-54)
All results are within normal and acceptable ranges. The
testing was provided by Apex Labs in Tigard, OR.

WORSHIP AND LITURGY
VOLUNTEER TRAINING
ADAPTED LITURGY
As we look forward to the upcoming program year, it
is time to think about the necessary training you need
to complete in order to volunteer in Faith Formation,
CYO, at school events, etc. Called To Protect training is
required for adults who will be volunteering with minors
four or more times per year. Please attend if you have
not completed this initial and in-person training before
you plan to volunteer.
You are invited on October 23 to the St. Pius X
Adapted Liturgy, a shorter Mass that celebrates the
lives and gifts of all people, including those with
physical and developmental disabilities and illnesses.
Every effort is made to accommodate the inclusion and
participation of each person. The church is accessible
for wheelchairs, and listening devices are available.
The Adapted Liturgy is offered the 4th Sunday of every
month at 2:45 pm at St. Pius X, 1280 NW Saltzman
Rd., Portland, OR; call (503) 644-5264 for more
information. Future dates are November 27, 2016,
and January 22, 2017. All are welcome to this joyful
gathering!
Even if you will not be volunteering, all parents, aunts,
uncles, grandparents or godparents are encouraged to
attend a session.
You’ll learn the following, plus more:
1. Facts and myths about child sexual abuse.
2. How offenders gain access to children.
3. Warning signs to look for in children, or adults.
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
The Special Collection next weekend, October 22-23,
will be for World Missions. Every year the needs of the
Catholic Church in the Missions grow - as new dioceses
are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of
the growing number of young men hearing Christ’s
call to follow Him as priests, as areas devastated by
war or natural disaster are rebuilt, and as other areas,
long suppressed, are opening up to hear the message of
Christ and His Church. That is why the involvement
and commitment of Catholics from around the world
is so urgently needed. Offerings from Catholics in
the United States, on World Mission Sunday and
throughout the year, are combined with offerings to the
Propagation of the Faith worldwide. Mission dioceses
- about 1,100 at this time - receive regular annual
assistance from the funds collected.
A training session will be held in the St. Pius X Parish
Office Conference Room on the following dates:
•
•
•
•
•
Thursday, October 20, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.

Thursday, November 3, 8:30 am - 10:30 am.

Luke 18:9-14
In the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector, Jesus
contrasts the attitudes of two people praying. This
Gospel reading suggests that we approach God and

our world, and especially for the suffering poor.

clothing newborn to size 4T, hygiene products: diaper

euthanasia, the use of the death penalty and imprudent
resort to war; protecting the fundamental understanding
of marriage as the life-long and faithful union of
one man and one woman; achieving comprehensive
immigration reform; caring for our common home;

Prenatal testing has allowed more and more parents
to find out that their children have Down syndrome
before the babies are born. Unfortunately, 90% of
those parents choose to kill their children, simply
because they have an extra chromosome. 99% of
parents say they truly love their son or daughter with
Down syndrome; 88% of brothers and sisters say they
are better people because of their sibling with Down
syndrome. People with Down syndrome themselves
spoke up, too: 99% are happy with their lives, and 97%

la Nota del Parroco
¿Esta espiritualmente saludable?
A veces la gente dice: “Lo he oído decir tres
He
Y pagan
los niños, los hijos. Vosotros no sabéis, queridos hermanos
Sucede. A veces «vuelan los platos». Pero si el amor es
verdadero, entonces se hace enseguida la paz. Yo aconsejo a

Pero tú has
dicho la palabra clave: memoria. Conservar la memoria de la
primera llamada.
sacerdotes y religiosas.
