THE ART AND ENJOYMENT www.nbbqa.org OF BARBECUE do the “right thing” After watching a documentary a few weeks ago about this, I thought I would share some thoughts on the subject. The documentary I saw showed people being down right mean to strangers. I never saw where this story was filmed but I can only believe they must have been in a bad section of town or far away from mainstream America. I also noticed they never showed any barbecue joints or places where families would gather, so I have come to the conclusion the film’s producers failed to show America in general. I became a little concerned that maybe our country is becoming a bit hard-hearted and decided to do a little investigating on my own. I recently paid close attention while on a road trip to witness just how many people are still doing “the right thing.” Opening doors for others, letting ladies go first and being polite to complete strangers are just a few ways I witnessed folks still doing what I was taught as a youngster. Some will argue that this frame of mind is Southern hospitality, but I have been witness to these acts of kindness throughout my barbecue travels across this great country. After my close observance I think we are generally good-hearted people as a whole and the majority of Americans still know right from wrong. I wrote about this because I know that most barbecuers are very giving and kind-hearted folks. I thank God daily to be working closely with lots of these like-minded people. NBBQA is all about sharing and giving back to ensure the success of barbecue as a whole and most of our members are willing to do whatever it takes to help a fellow barbecue lover succeed in their endeavors.
