What`s Happening?? - Timberline Basset Hound Club
Hope you’ll come out and support the Timberline Basset Hound Club Calling All Basset Hounds picnic next weekend, July 6, 11:00 a.m. at deKoevend Park in Centennial. Flyer is attached. Hope to see you there! The more the merrier. Homemade Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats What’s Happening?? TBHC News 1 banana, peeled 1 cup oat flour 2/3 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup dried parsley 3 tablespoons peanut butter 1 egg, beaten Preheat oven to 300°F. Put banana in a large bowl and use a spoon or potato masher to mash it thoroughly. Add oat flour, oats, parsley, peanut butter and egg and stir well to combine. Set aside for 5 minutes. Roll mixture into 24 balls, using about 1 tablespoon dough for each; transfer to a large parchment paper-lined baking sheet as done. Use the back of a spoon or the heel of your hand to press each ball into a (1 1/2- to 2inch) coin. Bake until firm and deep golden brown on the bottom, 40 to 45 minutes. Set aside to let cool completely. Storage note: It's best to store these in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Or, freeze them to give to your pal later; just be sure to thaw the treats before handing them out. The AKC has seen our draft and has returned it with comments. You’ll be receiving shortly with suggested changes incorporated. Our Timberline Basset Hound Club agility trial is set for September 22 at Arapahoe Park in Golden, Colorado. Betty Gene is chairing. Our judge is Beth Godwin. Kitty Bradley will once again do personnel for us. The park is reserved; all is a go. Once again we are sharing the weekend with the Newfoundland Club. As always, a lot of help is needed. A presentation on the Basset Hound has been requested by the Colorado Judges Group. Tentative timeframe is September, 18 Wednesday at Denver Dog Sports in Denver. We’ll need some Basset Hounds to use as examples – different types would be great. This is an instructional session to teach our local AKC judges what to look for when they’re judging the Basset, so a very important function for our club. Let us know if you’d like to attend. The presentation includes a lot of fine points related to our breed. Next year, Timberline will be celebrating its 50 Anniversary and planning has begun for a special day next April – possibly adding a Basset Hound Club of America regional specialty to be held in the morning and a formal show and dinner in the evening to celebrate. We have the entire Al Lesser building reserved for just Basset Hounds from morning to night. We will need another judge for the regionals and the TBHC board is working on that. Specialty judge is Carla LaFave and Christina is doing sweepstakes. It seems like a long way in the future but plans do need to be firmed up soon and advertising needs to be done The Basset Hound Club of America Nationals is taking place the first week in October in Eureka, Missouri – a wonderful opportunity to overdose on the Basset – obedience, tracking, field trials, hunt test, seminars, tons of Basset Hound items to shop for and lots of things to see and do. Headquarters hotel is the Holiday Inn Six Flags in Eureka – a very dog friendly place with lots of grass and they even have a special building for bathing your dogs complete with shampoo and towels. You will love it! Tracking test is set for March 2, 2014 at Lori State Park in Ft. Collins. Judges are Jane Jonas and Roy Fair. David is chairing. th So far we’ve not been able to locate any of the show pictures or rescue pictures taken at the specialty this year but we’re working on it. Remember, we had a new photographer for the first time so that could be the problem. Hopefully we’ll have something to post in the newsletter by next month so stay tuned. Collins This is taken from a Denver Post article dated June 18, 2000 honoring Libby Sallada. Thought you would enjoy and thanks to Mary Mosley for the hard copy. Libby was quite a woman and I wish you all could have known her. The title of the article is: Dog Rescuer’s Life was Multi-Basseted Inner Peace If you can start the day without caffeine, If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it, If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time, If you can take criticism and blame without resentment, If you can conquer tension without medical help, If you can relax without alcohol, If you can sleep without the aid of drugs, Then You Are Probably The Family Dog! And you thought I was going to get all spiritual ... Handle every Stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or play with it, Pee on it and walk away (thanks Richard, for the words of wisdom!) Mark Murphy’s long fight is over. He passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon with son, daughter in law and wife Kathy by his side. He was truly at peace. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mark, Kathy and the family.
