EXECUTIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
Superior results through unrivalled hospitality intelligence.
Everywhere.
From the Chairman's Desk
Dear Industry Colleagues,
The idea to launch HVS Professional Skill Development was born at the “Owners Only Round-table” hosted by us alongside HICSA
2013. Approximately a hundred owners gathered, and quality of skilled manpower in addition to the training being provided by hotel
brands emerged as one their major areas of concern. The thought stayed with us, and we at HVS decided to try and fill this void.
Today we have a scenario wherein good candidates suited for direct employment in the industry are being developed by large domestic
hotel brands through their own training schools, but the number is still insufficient to meet the requirements of the fast-growing
hospitality sector. On the other hand, although students are graduating from independent hotel schools across India in large numbers,
they are not necessarily suitable for immediate recruitment within the industry. Moreover, amongst the international brands, there are
none that provide basic skill development training in a structured manner in India. In fact, they generally manage their manpower
requirements by way of poaching from one another, as against investing in an academy for training and skill development. Training is
most often in the form of a few classes held annually in regional Asia Pacific offices. Quite clearly, it is not the lack of intention but
simply the inadequate budgets to develop a comprehensive training program that has been a deterrent for these international hotel
companies.
Our research points to a definite need in at least three areas: sharing knowledge and best practices among owners, ongoing professional
development and knowledge enhancement of senior and middle management, and skills training for entry-level and junior-level
employees. To cater to this critical need for talent development at the junior level, HVS intends to launch a Skills Development and
Operations Training Program. However, a well-thought-through and exhaustive skills training program requires great planning and
financial resources and hence we will launch this program only in 2015. At this juncture, we begin by introducing our Executive
Development Program. The current scenario of rapid growth and its multiple challenges has caused executives to be promoted before
they were completely ready for their new roles, resulting, sometimes, in a mismatch between expectations and responsibilities. We do
believe that our courses will support executives to strengthen their competencies and create even better value for their companies.
For us at HVS, a program of this nature is a great opportunity to do something for the Indian hospitality sector. We play an impartial
role in the industry and believe that HVS is uniquely positioned to provide a service that can be utilized by international and domestic
brands alike. Neither can all hotel companies afford to send their executives for a professional development course overseas, nor can they
afford to bring in facilitators for their entire chain of hotels to India – something that HVS can do, owing to its access to and
relationship with global universities and business organisations.
Helping us make this a reality is Monisha Dewan, who brings with her 22 years of hands-on hospitality experience with commendable
expertise in developing and managing training programs. Monisha joins the HVS family as the Managing Director of this new vertical
and brings with her a rich experience of working with brands like Hilton, Marriott, Intercontinental and The Oberoi Group.
Monisha’s most recent assignment was that of General Manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton, Gurgaon. In the past 18 years of her
career, Monisha has held several leadership positions; she was also a certified trainer for Sales programs during her tenure at the
Marriott and facilitated Sales trainings across Asia.
This brochure is an introduction to our Executive Development Program, and includes a preliminary list of courses, to be offered in a
few months’ time. While most courses will be held in Delhi, we intend to structure them such that some can be offered in other major
Indian cities as well. Additionally, for hotel companies/brands that prefer a particular course, HVS is willing to customize the course
content to suit the brands specifically. Please do note that a detailed program structure with course fees will be provided in our following
brochure.
We eagerly look forward to your suggestions and hope that we can join hands with you to contribute to talent development in the
Indian hospitality industry.
Yours sincerely,
Manav Thadani
Chairman, HVS Asia Pacific

HVS Professional Skill Development
HVS Professional Skill Development (PSD) was conceptualized with the primary aim to be a Learning & Development
Solution (L&D) provider to the hospitality industry. The Indian hospitality industry has been growing at a very fast pace in
terms of new hotel supply. This has lead to intense competition, demanding customers, limited resources and a never-ending
shortage of skilled and qualified manpower. Making talent management a strategic priority has become the need of the hour.
Be it to reduce employee attrition, bridge the skill gap or develop manpower to achieve business goals; it has become
imperative to invest in quality and relevant training.
Recognizing this need, HVS PSD’s objective is to provide world class trainings in the field of Sales & Marketing, Revenue
Management, Finance, Leadership Development and Specialized courses for hospitality professionals to achieve peak
performance and deliver results. Our target audiences are executives & managerial level hospitality professionals.
