WINTER 2016 INSIDE THIS ISSUE: • Chair’s Message • Frequent Shopper Program • Bowling Event Photo Scrapbook • Ribbon Cuttings • Calendar of Events • Welcome New Members A NORTHERN KANE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PUBLICATION President’s Message Thank you to our committee members, participants and Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville for another successful bowling event and beginning of a new year. Recently I was asked to write a brief story about our Chamber for the Northwest Herald. I’d like to share with you some of the points I addressed through my involvement as your president the past 9 years. The landscape of what a business community is has changed from personal relationships to online shopping, social media engagement Melissa Hernandez and web-based interaction. Along with the internet, chambers have struggled to find relevancy in a climate of multiple networking opportunities and choices. Because of all the options available to businesses and consumers that exist, the question of whether or not chambers are still necessary surfaces quite often and here is how I feel. Chambers offers businesses a place to come together, share ideas, make new connections and expand their contact base. Chambers offer educational seminars for professional development, social media and programs to support small businesses. The chamber aligns with SCORE and the SBDC to inform and educate businesses on services available to promote success. Along with networking, the one thing chambers offer unlike other networking groups is the relationship with local government. The NKCC works with five villages and participates in community events to help promote local businesses and shop local 2016 SUPER BOWLING Event Sponsors OF CARPENTERSVILLE continued on page 2 2016 Bowling Event....Great Job from the NKCC Ambassadors! Our committees have already been hard at work planning this year’s events. We started the year with an awesome bowling event organized by our Ambassador Committee. It Lori Schutt was loads of fun with great food and even some prizes this year! Next up on our event agenda … The annual Golf Outing in June, followed by the 2nd Annual Fest on the Fox, and then the popular Annual Dinner! Look for info on these great events to be available soon. Our great events start with energetic volunteers! If you are looking to get involved with a committee, please let us know. We are always looking for help in planning these events. Look for the committee meeting dates listed on the chamber website or contact the Chamber for more information. Are you looking for networking opportunities? We have our membership lunches every other month. It is open to everyone and offers a great way to meet new and potential members and enjoy a great lunch. Do you like to network early in the morning? Join us at our Rise and Shine events which are held every other month at each of our friendly villages. Business After Hours are also held once a month in the evenings. Mornings, lunches and evenings - the NKCC provides lots of opportunities for you to network your business to fit right into your schedule. Not sure if you are taking advantage of all of your membership benefits? Join us at our next Membership Lunch on Friday, March 18th! Here’s to a great 2016! Lori Schutt Chairman of the Board President’s Message ... continued from page 1 initiatives. We organize morning coffee with the mayor on an annual basis and a Community Service Award event highlighting an individual in each community that goes above and beyond to make the world we live in a better place. The chamber understands that without strong businesses you don't have a strong community and vice versa. We work with the area service organizations and clubs to clean up our community and make it a better place to live. The NKCC has participated in local food drives, projects for Habitat for Humanity, the local Rotary clubs and the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township. We truly believe that it is the efforts of working together that will make the Northern end of Kane County a wonderful place to live, shop and do business! Melissa Hernandez President MISSION STATEMENT The Northern Kane County Chamber is an advocate for business interests and development by identifying and fulfilling the needs of the business community through leadership, education, support and promotion. 20 S.
