IITTM was established in 1983 and presently IITTM campuses are located at Gwalior, Bhubaneswar, Goa, New Delhi and Nellore. IITTM is a founder member of UN-ESCAP promoted Network of Asia-Pacific Educational and Training Institute in Tourism (APETIT). It offers a two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes approved by AICTE. Post graduate programmes offered at Gwalior centre are all approved by Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as equivalent to MBA. Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Gwalior- Administrative Block Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Travel) (PGDM -TT) Offered at Gwalior and Bhubaneswar Tourism is one of the world's most important industries, supporting employment on a large scale in many parts of the world. Tourism is responsible for the movement of many millions of people each year, travelling for a variety of reasons, including holidays, business, education, health, and visiting friends and relatives. The PGDM (Tourism and Travel) programme has been developed to meet the growing demand for skilled and resourceful managers in this rapidly expanding tourism industry. Organisations that manage tourism facilities as well as those who provide essential services such as transport, accommodation, travel, and tourist advice are set to expand in the future. While individuals Bhubaneswar Centre entering this area require a sound grounding in general business principles, there are also specific areas that require a more dedicated set of skills and knowledge. This programme provides a sound foundation in business and management principles and at the same time provides for the development of specialist tourism knowledge and skills that are essential for a successful career in tourism management today. The programme of study aims at preparing graduates for taking up employment in a business organisation or self employment and / or carrying forward their family businesses. Learners would understand the need for different management approaches for different types of tourism; discuss the role of tourism as an agent for cultural change and understanding; and, assess the specific characteristics and trends in emerging specialist areas of the tourism industry (e.g. festivals, events, heritage, wellness tourism and other new markets). Subsequently they will be working in, or aspire to, careers in all aspects of the international tourism industry, which may include government tourism agencies, tour operators, airlines, cultural heritage, festival, wellness and/or other specialist tourism operations. The objectives of this programme of study arei. Understand the broad political, economic and social frameworks within which tourism management takes place ii. Appreciate the complex relationships between visitors and destination management iii. Evaluate the tools and techniques that are used for developing and managing tourism in a range of environments iv. Enable young learners to develop a business sense and sensitise them to nuances in service scenario v. Equip and enable learners to start a new business venture Accordingly, the programme has a large component of working in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors. Structure i. This is an intensive study programme of two academic sessions. ii. The programme shall be divided into four semesters and there shall be an examination at the end of each semester. There are three taught semesters and fourth semester of internship. iii. Each semester shall comprise of credits equivalent to nine courses, each of three hours per week, with equivalent teaching obligation and equal amount of self study. iv. Admission to programme is being offered for 93 seats each at Gwalior and Bhubaneswar. v. Dual specialisation would be available to students in any two out of Airfares and Ticketing, Air Cargo Operations and Management, Tour Operations, and Marketing. Zenith mentorship Programme Zenith Leisure Holidays (ZLH), a leading tourism company has agreed to mentor the students of PGDM (TT) programme at Bhubaneswar centre of the institute through the duration of the programme. Scheme envisages students of PGDM (TT) programme of IITTM, Bhubaneswar to travel extensively, inside and outside of the country, for training and practical exposure including one international and one domestic study tour. However, students who opt for this programme are expected to financially support these activities. The mentorship programme includes: a. Two-month paid Internship after second semester with stipend of Rs. 5000/- per month and four months paid internship during the fourth semester with Rs. 10,000 per month as stipend. b. Each student of ZMS to be assigned one Zenith Mentor for the whole period of two years (hand holding as per Gurukul tradition). c. ZLH will award a specialist certificate to the qualifying students. Further, IITTM Bhubaneswar will award certificate after successful completion of Zenith Mentorship Scheme (ZMS) course. Quiz on World Tourism Day Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Leisure) (PGDM-TL) Offered at New Delhi Tourism, today, is the largest industry in the world. Upcoming IITTM Delhi centre campus (at Noida) Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Services) (PGDM-S) Offered at Gwalior Service sector, today, is the largest contributor to gross domestic product in India. As economy strengthens both service sectors (tourism, healthcare, retailing, education, IT, hospitality, etc.) and service components of manufacturing and agriculture sector would increasingly become important. This growth has resulted in a sharp rise in employability and paying capacity of these sectors. More jobs are created and job demand and supply gap has increased, calling for more trained human-power to occupy these jobs. This programme of IITTM focuses on management of service sectors. The programme of study aims at preparing graduates for taking up employment in a business organisation or self employment and/or carrying forward their family businesses. Learner would be able to specialise simultaneously in one functional elective area and also in one sectoral elective of his /her choice and subject to availability of such courses at the centre. Dual specialisation would be available to students in Marketing, Human Resource Management or Finance; and Tourism and Hospitality Management, or Financial Services. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Business) (PGDM-IB) Focus: International Tourism Business Offered at Gwalior The prime objective of this programme is to develop a global way of thinking- a valuable asset and an important skill for all businesses today. IITTM’s International Tourism Business (PGDM-IB) programme is unique among international management programmes because we focus on preparing our graduates to be global tour leaders who possess a deep knowledge of the intercultural sensitivity and skill to handle both out bound and inbound tourists. Mentored by Thomas Cook (India) Ltd., PGDM-IB programme provides learners with international as well as general business skills, and an opportunity for hands on experience. With IITTM’s core competence in tourism and travel-the largest global industry today, we prepare learners for this. They will also be equipped with skills transferable to other sectors of global businesses. PG Programme in International Tourism Business is mentored by Industry leader Thomas Cook India Pvt. Ltd. All students enrolled for mentorship will undergo paid four month internship at the end of the programme and shall have an opportunity to assist on an outbound tour among many other benefits. In times when companies must spend each rupee judiciously it has become increasingly important for tourism companies to hire managers/executives who are trained to be relevant to their requirements. At PGDM (IB) we believe that for graduates to be worth the employers’ money, they need to be trained/ educated in a manner that they may contribute from day one to the company by creating value for their customers and company. We believe that the only way out is to offer a programme working closely with industry, so that it produces learners who are of immediate use for the tourism companies. Separate (additional) certification by Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. Opportunity for other concurrent certifications. f. Admission to programme is being offered for 93 seats at Gwalior. g. Programme envisages students to travel extensively, inside and outside of the country, for training and practical exposure. Learners of this programme are expected to financially support these activities. Approximate expenses would be Rs. 1.1 lakhs in addition to the regular fees for the programme. Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Business) (PGDM-IB) Focus: Tourism and Logistics Offered at Bhubaneswar As the global marketplace gets more competitive, the key to sustainable competitive advantage would emanate from a business’s ability to make effective decisions and move products to the market quickly and efficiently. Post recession, management of logistics has gained importance with business decision makers. This necessity has made flow of information, goods and services, people and capital more complicated. Business environments have become dynamic and complex on one hand while product life cycle has reduced. To remain in, reckoning companies need to be quick and precise to address their customer’s needs. This calls for a smooth processing along the supply chain. Post Graduate Diploma in Management with focus on Tourism and Logistics (PGDM-IB) is a programme of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar, approved by AICTE. Boys’ hostel at IITTM Bhubaneswar The paramount objective of the course is to make the students understand the indispensable role of logistics in the movement management of tourists and their travel accessories, including souvenirs from the tourism generation region to the transit and destination region vice-versa. Analyze the prevailing regional and global tourist travel demand, and constructively analyze the functional capacity of the existing tourist travel supply capacities. iii. Learn functions of transport logistical operations systems in tourist transit regions, and their effectiveness in the management of the mass movement of tourists and goods from the travel hubs to the tourist attraction spokes. iv. Make sense of existing and future global, regional and local prospects and challenges for tourist transport provision and methodologically approach each issue. v. Understand and implement concepts, techniques and applications that are important for logistics and supply chain management. vi. Link strategic and operational system thinking with appropriate action to inform and facilitate day-to-day decisions in logistic management. vii. Apply business and logistic methods and principles to identify problems to improve value chain and supply chain management for sustainable practice. viii. Ability to communicate effectively to build and maintain relationships with other professionals at various levels of business organisation, stakeholders, clients, team members and management. ix. This course offers a very vibrant approach to human resource development in the growing tourism and cargo management sector. The pedagogy of the course is designed by combining the contemporary developments in the tourism and cargo management scenario with a global outlook. Tourism Day This unique PGDM programme emphases value based education which opens door for innumerable opportunities in Tourism, Cargo and allied sectors at executive and management level. In tourism sector; Tour operations in national and multinational tourism and travel companies, Tourism destination Marketing, Event management, State Tourism Boards and related organizations, Independent Travel Consultants, E-Tourism services, Escorting, Guiding and Interpretation and Hospitality are the much sought after areas. Options available in cargo sector includes Air and Shipping cargo, Freight and forwarding, LLP/4PL services, Cross-Docking, Fleet management and Customs and brokerage. Foreign exchange, Airports and airlines, Research and consultancy are the other allied areas where this course is found useful. Dual specialisation would be available to students in the areas of Tourism Marketing, Tour Operation Management, Air Cargo Management and Shipping Cargo Management. First and Second semester comprise of nine courses and Third and Fourth semester shall have six courses excluding project report and study tour report; with three hours per week of class room teaching for each course along with demand for equal amount of self study obligation. Foreign language, Soft skill lab, Live Projects, exercises and assignments are integral part of the pedagogy. d. Admission is being offered only for 60 seats in the programme. IITTM Nellore inaugurating ‘Wings Horse’- Air Cargo Club Facilities at IITTM IITTM centres have state-of the art infrastructure that support a learning environment. Classes are equipped with state of the art technology. Given our collection and access to online databases our libraries are considered the best for tourism. Students have campus-wide access to internet. Gwalior, Bhubaneswar and Delhi campuses offer hostel facilities to students at a very affordable price. Hostel rental vary from Rs. 5,500 to Rs. 7.500, for a semester, depending upon the type of accommodation. This excludes the caution money deposit and electricity charges. Students admitted to PG Programme in International Tourism Business (PGDM-IB) at Gwalior may opt for mentorship by providing for an additional Rs. 1.0 lakhs plus taxes for mentorship to Thomas Cook India Ltd. Students being admitted to IITTM Bhubaneswar may opt for a mentorship by Zenith Holidays Pvt. Ltd. The mentorship fees is Rs. 1.0 lakhs plus taxes The above include fees towards Convocation and Insurance The study tour is compulsory for students opting for PGDM (T&T) and PGDM (T&L) programmes. Students must pay an additional fee of Rs. 10,000 (Rs. Ten thousand only) for this study tour. 4. 5. 6. Scholarships and Freeship Students of IITTM can avail of government scholarships offered by various agencies to students from different categories. More than 100 students benefit from these scholarships every academic session. Besides these scholarships, IITTM offers freeship to one boy and one girl from each group for the semester that they score the highest grade (Rules of the institute applicable). * Fee estimates are indicative and are subject to approval of the relevant authorities. PGDM (Tourism and Cargo) Nellore 60 30 16 09 05 Meeting of Board of Governors of IITTM, March 2011 Eligibility for programmes Candidates seeking admission to the PGDM programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern) in any discipline of a University or equivalent thereto with at least 50 % marks (45% for SC/ST/ PH). Reservation for SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and physically challenged candidates will be applicable as per Govt. of India rules. Physically challenged candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates appearing for the final examination of graduation are also eligible to IITTM Alumni develops Solar cycle apply, provided they complete it with requisite grade/ percentage of marks by October 31, 2013. In case the candidate fails to establish eligibility by this date, the admission would be cancelled and fees will be forfeited. Admission process and counselling The admission to IITTM is a four-step procedure: a. b. c. d. Applying Screening for admission Counselling and offer of admission Admission A. (India) 1. Apply online to IITTM latest by May 31, 2013 with admission fees of Rs. 1000/(500/- in case of SC/ ST/ PH) through a demand draft payable to Director-IITTM, payable at Gwalior 2. Candidates must also upload a photograph. 3. They must also indicate the choice of the programme (out of the 7 programmes offered at the four centres of IITTM) by June 25, 2013 4. System will generate an application form-cum-admit card carrying all the details filled by the candidates including the preference for the different courses. 5. Candidates must take a printout of the same and get it attested by a gazetted officer; attach photocopies of relevant documents and keep it ready. B. Screening for admission Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points. A weight of 70% shall be for the performance in Admission Tests considered for the purpose by IITTM. IITTM considers MAT/CAT/CMAT/XAT/ATMA for admission to its programmes. Another 15% points each are for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) respectively. A candidate to be eligible to be considered for admission must participate in all components of the admission process, i.e., one of the Admission tests, GD and PI. Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute. 1. Eligible candidates must write any one of the national level exams: a. Valid MAT score (September 2012, December 2012 and February 2013, June 2013) b. Valid CAT score (2012) c. CMAT 2013-14 (October 2012, February 2013 and May 2013) d. XAT 2013 e. ATMA 2. They must mention their score on the application. In case a student has appeared for more than one exam, the best of the scores will be considered. 3. Those seeking admission on the basis of MAT (June, 2013) and CMAT (May, 2013) may apply with copy of their Admit Card (indicating their Roll Numbers). 4. Institute will notify the date and time for GD/PI. 5. Candidates must come with all original documents for verification before being allowed for the GD and PI. 6. Short-listed students will have to appear for GD and PI at any one of the IITTM centres: i GD and PI at Delhi June 13-14, 2013 ii GD and PI at Nellore June 15, 2013 iii GD and PI at Bhubaneswar June 16-17, 2013 iv GD and PI at Gwalior June 18-20, 2013 C. Counselling and offer of admission The institute will declare results of the screening for admission on Saturday, June 29, 2013. 1. The result will also indicate the programme allotted as per merit of the candidates and the choice exercised by them. This will be the first counselling. 2. Allotment of seats along with the waiting list will be displayed separately for each of the programmes. 3. At this stage the candidates may report to the reporting centre with non-refundable processing fees through a demand draft of Rs. 10,000/- in favour of Director- IITTM, payable at Gwalior. Fees will be payable only if the candidate seeks admission at this stage. 4. At this stage a candidate will have two choices on payment of processing fees: a. Confirm the seat allotted b. Take admission on seat allotted and keep the option of up-gradation. This means the admission on the allotted seat is confirmed but the candidate will be automatically upgraded in case of availability of seats. c. Candidates in the waiting list who do not exercise the above option will be considered for the second counselling for higher preferences only but will not have any right to seat allotted during the first counselling. 6. The seats reserved for various which remain unfilled after all the candidates of reserved category are exhausted will be de-reserved and will be allotted to unreserved candidates. 7. Second and final counselling will be spot counselling at IITTM Gwalior for seats remaining vacant after the first counselling. This counselling would be on Monday July 8, 2013. D. Admission Candidates offered admission must deposit the fees by Monday, July 22, 2013 failing which the seat would be considered vacant. 1. Teaching commences on Monday, July 22, 2013. 2. Admission on vacant seats will be offered to other waitlisted candidates on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. 3. Those candidates who have reported and have been allotted a course and who do not deposit the balance fees will be considered as abstaining wilfully and the seat will be allotted to others. Such candidates will forefeet their processing fees. 4. IITTM will not be responsible for any delay in postal services. 5. Processing fees of Rs. 10,000 will be accommodated in the total fees for those who deposit their fees on or before July 22, 2013. 6. Candidates, who have deposited their entire due fees and want to leave the course, will be allowed to do so by July 22, 2013 the date of commencement of teaching. In such cases they will have to forego their processing fees and a deduction of Rs. 1,500 will be made as per AICTE norms. 7. No fees are refundable after July 22, 2013. Important note 1. Institute shall not be responsible for any postal/courier delays in correspondence related to admission process. 2. Candidates, who are admitted to the programme during the counselling session and are unable to get admission to the programme of their first choice, shall be placed on waiting list for that programme. Movements through waiting lists are strictly on the basis of merit. 3. Once a candidate has taken admission in one of the programmes of IITTM at any of the centres and his/her name is forwarded to AICTE, his/ her admission shall not be transferred to any other programme of the institute. 4. Admission to hostel is on merit and availability. 5. A candidate/guardian must declare ailment and medical history, if any, at the time of admission. 6. Students on taking admission shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by the rules and regulations of the institute. 7. All matters are to be settled subject to jurisdiction of Madhya Pradesh High CourtGwalior Bench. Reservation of rights This bulletin is applicable for admission to Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Services), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Business) (at Gwalior), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Travel), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (International Business) (at Bhubaneswar), Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Cargo) and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Tourism and Leisure) programmes for the academic session 2013-15. However, Director IITTM reserves the right to make changes in requirements and regulations for admission, regulation for continuing the courses, contents of the courses, fee charges, or regulations affecting students, or making any other suitable modifications in any matter incidental or ancillary thereto, should these be deemed necessary in interest of the student, profession, or the institute.
