Message From the President
We have so much going on in the next month that I hope everyone can help volunteer their time to make
sure our activities are successful. We have another open show on the 20th of this month that needs
volunteers. If you can help with that please contact Holly Brown or Ginny Kelsch. We have the Horse
Expo as well on the 20th of this month. Please contact Lynn Kinney or Char Armstrong. Then we have the
TVC show which is already showing positive signs of being very well attended. Please contact Linda Oliver
to volunteer, or Holly Brown if you want to be a vendor. We are also looking for sponsors for this show.
Concerning the TVC the new, up-dated, premium is on the Des Arab web site. I would like to thank Barbra
Zellner, our USEF steward along with Linda Oliver for helping get this re-vised. If you know of anyone that
would like us to mail out a premium to them please let us know and we will get them one in the mail.
Denyce Drinkall has been putting together some awesome trail rides for the club this year. There seems to
be a lot of interest so don’t be shy. If you have a horse that needs to get some trail ride experience this
might be the perfect place to do so. Please feel free to contact her and get a trail ride schedule and time.
You won’t be disappointed.
Our next meeting location HAS CHANGED. We will be meeting Sunday, April 28th, at Casa Mexico, 10332
Fairview, Boise, Idaho, at 1:00. If you wish to have lunch I would appreciate it if you could show up a little
earlier and order your food so we can get the meeting started and continue with our business without so
many interruptions. This is an important meeting to tie things up before the TVC show. Again your input is
important.
Hope to see you all soon.

Jim Shippers is the proud owner of Mi Paraisa. (Eden C / Mi
Fiesta Rose) in her first show under saddle she won the Junior
Hunter Championship at the Rally in the Valley Show at the
Oregon Horse Center in Eugene, Oregon. This was a
unanimous win, both Judges had her Champion.
Mi Paraisa is for sale. She has 3 Regional Halter
Championships and one Reserve Championship. She is
certainly competitive for the US Nationals Maturity Hunter
Class.

WHAT ARE YOU UP TO WITH YOUR ARABIAN?
from Lyn Kinney
I volunteered earlier this year to put together a calendar for the web site of all kinds of events that we
could be involved in with our horses – from endurance rides to dressage festivals to organized trail
rides to cutting/reining shows to open shows, to clinics, to jumping shows, etc. HOWEVER, this has
become an unwieldy undertaking. So I was thinking what might be really cool is to have the events
we are already doing listed on a monthly calendar for the web site. That way we can know what we are
all doing and can support each other in that endeavor.
With that in mind could you send me ([email protected])YOUR calendar of events that you are
participating in with your Arab, Half-Arab or Anglo-Arab. Send me a list including the following
information: Any organized event (such as listed earlier), your name, the date and the horse you plan to
participate with. I will then get it organized onto a calendar and get it sent in for the website Calendar
of What We (Des Arab Members) Are Doing With Our Horses.

TRAIL RIDE ETIQUETTE GUIDELINES:
The purpose of trail rides is to have “Safe” rides, meet new friends, and give our horses a chance to be horses
in a natural environment. Above all, Safety is our number one priority.
1. Ready to Ride (RTR) means that you have tacked up, applied insect spray (if appropriate), and are sitting in
your saddle at the designated location and time. Be courteous and be RTR on time. Others should not have to
wait for you.
2. Leave as part of the group and return as part of the group. If you decide to go off on your own, please
discuss your plans with the Ride Host first. NEVER leave a rider in the dust.
3. Develop basic horse handling skills before you embark on a trail ride: Mounting/dismounting, stopping,
controlled changes in gait, etc. Our trail rides are designed for the safe enjoyment of beginner-intermediate
riders.
4. Maintain spacing between you and the horse ahead of you. If your horse kicks at other horses, tie a red
ribbon in its tail.
5. Don’t run your horse past other horses ahead of you.
6. Carry water, snacks, and a basic horse first aid kit with you. Dress appropriate for weather, be prepared for
changes, especially if the ride is in the mountains.
7. Dogs are loved by all of us but they can spook horses not familiar with your “best” friend. Please do not
bring them on the “trail” during the group ride, especially if there are a large number of horses. If you bring a
dog, you are responsible to control it at all times.
8. Extra horses that you bring should be controlled at all times. Please do not turn them loose to graze, or run
along with the trail party.
9. IF you bring a Firearm, it should only be discharged with extreme caution, when there is a severe threat, if
it is immediate, and other riders have been warned. Horses unfamiliar with firearms may be spooked. The
potential injury to other riders is far greater than from a snake or minor threats you may perceive.
10. The Trail Host is there to assist you and ensure that all have a safe riding experience. Please defer to any
decisions the Host may feel necessary to make: choice of route, departure time, return time, pace, etc. Keep
the host informed of any special needs or problems you may have.
11. Social hour is a part of the ride to get to know the other riders and to have a chance to relax and enjoy
good food and good company. Always pick up trash afterwards and pack out whatever you have brought in.
Plan to come and ride, have fun and then enjoy a little break from the rat race!
12. Be sensitive to how you represent Des Arab Arabian Horse club to members of the public you may
encounter while on a trail ride or other horse activity. They will judge the club based on your interaction with
them!
