The yarn amounts are based on average requirements when specified tension and yarn is used.
You will also need 1 Pair of 6½mm (UK3 – USA10.5) Knitting Needles, 1 Pair of 5½mm (UK5 – USA9) Knitting Needles, Stitch Holders and Cable Needle (for Cabled
Socks only).
TENSION
14 sts and 19 rows to 10cm, (4in) over stocking stitch on 6½mm needles or the size required to give correct tension.
Check your tension - if less stitches use a thinner needle, if more use a thicker needle.
IT IS ESSENTIAL TO WORK TO THE STATED TENSION TO ENSURE SUCCESS.

C4B - slip next 2 sts to back on CN, k2 then k2 from CN.

TEXTURED SOCKS (Both alike)
Using 5½mm needles and thumb method
cast on 29 [31:33:35:39] sts.
1st Row. * K1, p1, rep from * to last st,
k1.
2nd Row. P1, * k1, p1, rep from * to end.
These 2 rows will now be referred to as
1x1 rib.
Work 5 rows more in 1x1 rib.
8th Row. P5 [2:3:2:2], p2tog, (p6 [4:4:
5:6], p2tog) 2 [4:4:4:4] times, p6 [3:4:3:3].
26 [26:28:30:34] sts.
Change to 6½mm needles and proceed as
follows:1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. P0 [0:1:2:4], * k2, p4, rep from
* to last 2 [2:3:4:0] sts, k2 [2:2:2:0], p0 [0:
1:2:0].
3rd Row. Knit.
4th Row. P0 [0:0:0:1], k0 [0:0:1:2], p0 [0:

From 1st to 4th row sets patt.
Cont in patt as set until leg measures
25 [28:31:34:38]cm, (9¾ [11:12:
13½:15]in), ending with a rs row.

Break off yarn.
Divide for Heel
Next Row. Slip first 7 [7:7:8:9] sts onto a
stitch holder, slip next 12 [12:14:14:16]
sts onto a stitch holder for instep.
7 [7:7:8:9] sts.
With ws facing, rejoin yarn to instep edge
of 7 [7:7:8:9] sts at end of row and purl
to end, turn stitch holder around and purl
across 7 [7:7:8:9] sts left on stitch holder
at beg of row. 14 [14:14:16:18] sts.
** Change to 5½mm needles and proceed
as follows:1st Row. Knit.
2nd Row. Purl.
st-st (stocking stitch).
Work 6 [6:8:10:12] rows more in st-st.
Turn Heel
1st Row. K8 [8:8:9:10], s1, k1, psso, k1,
turn.
2nd Row. P4, p2tog, p1, turn.
3rd Row. K5, s1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
4th Row. P6, p2tog, p1, turn.
For 4th and 5th sizes only
5th Row. K7, s1, k1, psso, k1, turn.
6th Row. P8, p2tog, p1, turn.
For all 5 sizes
Next Row. Knit to last 2 sts, s1, k1, psso.
Next Row. Purl to last 2 sts, p2tog.
8 [8:8:8:10] sts.
Break off yarn. With rs facing, rejoin yarn
to instep, pick up and knit 6 [6:7:9:10] sts
evenly along side edge of heel, knit across
8 [8:8:8:10] sts of heel and pick up and
knit 6 [6:7:9:10] sts evenly along other
side edge of heel. 20 [20:22:26:30] sts.
Next Row. Purl.
Proceed as follows:-
1st Row. K1, s1, k1, psso, knit to last
3 sts, k2tog, k1. 18 [18:20:24:28] sts.
2nd Row. Purl.
3rd Row. Knit.
4th Row. Purl.
Rep last 4 rows 1 [1:2:3:4] times then 1st
row once more. 14 [14:14:16:18] sts.
Change to 6½mm needles and cont in
st-st until foot measures 13 [16:18:
19:21]cm, (5¼ [6¼:7:7½:8¼]in), from
back of heel, ending with a ws row. The
length of the foot can be adjusted at this
point but allow 2 [2:2:3:3]cm, (¾ [¾:¾:
1¼:1¼]in), for toe shaping.
Shape Toe
Next Row. K1, s1, k1, psso, knit to last
3 sts, k2tog, k1. [14:16] sts.
Next Row. Purl.
For all 5 sizes
3 sts, k2tog, k1. 12 [12:12:12:14] sts.
2nd Row. P1, p2tog, purl to last 3 sts,
p2togtbl, p1. 10 [10:10:10:12] sts.
3rd Row. As 1st row. 8 [8:8:8:10] sts.
4th Row. P1, p2tog, purl to last 3 sts,
p2togtbl, p1. 6 [6:6:6:8] sts.
Break off yarn, leave these 6 [6:6:6:8] sts
on a spare needle. **
With ws facing, using 6½mm needles,
rejoin yarn to 12 [12:14:14:16] sts left on
a stitch holder and starting with
appropriate patt row patt to end.
Next Row. Patt 1, (pick up loop between
last and next st and work into the back of
this loop - this will now be referred to as
