MEASUREMENTS
• Length approx 54"/137cm
GAUGE
20 sts and 28 rows to 4"/10cm over St st using larger needles and A or B.
TAKE TIME TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
PROVISIONAL CAST ON
Using scrap yarn and crochet hook, ch the number of sts to cast on plus a few
extra. Cut a tail and pull the tail through the last chain. With knitting needle and
yarn, pick up and knit the stated number of sts through the “purl bumps” on the
back of the chain. To remove scrap yarn chain, when instructed, pull out the tail
from the last crochet stitch. Gently and slowly pull on the tail to unravel the crochet stitches, carefully placing each released knit stitch on a needle.
STITCH GLOSSARY
Inc 2 (P1, yo, p1) in next st—2 sts inc’d.
Lifted inc (L inc) Insert RH needle into p bump under next st on LH needle and
p into this st—1 st inc’d.
LONG I-CORD STEM WITH LEAVES (make 7)
With larger dpn and A, cast on 3 sts using provisional cast-on.
*Knit one row. Without turning work, slide the sts back to the opposite end of
needle to work next row from RS. Pull yarn tightly from the end of the row. Rep
from * until I-cord measures 10"/25.5cm from beg.
Cut A and join B, work leaf in B only.

*Row 1 (RS) With B, k3.
Row 2 (inc WS) P1, inc 2, p1—5 sts.
Rows 3, 5 and 7 Sl 1, k to end.
Row 4 (inc) Sl 1, p1, inc 2, p2—7 sts.
Row 6 (inc) Sl 1, p2, inc 2, p3—9 sts.
Row 8 (inc) Sl 1, p3, inc 2, p4—11 sts.
Row 9 Sl 1, k4, p1, k5.
Rows 10, 12, 14 and 16 Sl 1, p to end.
Row 11 (dec RS) Sl 1, k2tog, k2, p1, k2, ssk, k1—9 sts.
Row 13 (dec) Sl 1, k2tog, k1, p1, k1, ssk, k1—7 sts.
Row 15 (dec) Sl 1, k2tog, p1, ssk, k1—5 sts.
Row 17 (dec) K2tog, p1, ssk—3 sts. Without turning work, slide the sts back
the opposite end of needle to work next side from RS.
Row 18 (RS) K3. Without turning work, slide the sts back the opposite end of
needle to work next side from RS.
Row 19 (dec RS) S2KP. Cut yarn leaving a 6"/15cm tail. Fasten off last st.*
Carefully remove sts from provisional cast-on and place on needle. With B, rep
between *’s to make a leaf at cast-on end.
SHORT I-CORD STEM (make 1)
Work as for long I-cord stem, but make i-cord only 6"/15cm long.
LEAVES (make 8)
With larger dpn and B, cast on 3 sts. Without turning work, slide the sts back
to the opposite end of needle to work next row from RS. Pull yarn tightly from
the end of the row. K 1 row.
Rep between *’s of leaf.
BERRIES (make 9)
With smaller dpn and C, cast on 3 sts leaving a long tail.
Row 1 and all RS rows through row 11 Knit.
Row 2 (inc WS) P1, L inc, p2—4 sts.
Row 4 (inc) P1, L inc, p2, L inc, p1—6 sts.
Row 6 (inc) K1, L inc, p4, L inc, k1—8 sts.
Row 8 (dec WS) P1, p2tog, p2, p2tog, p1—6 sts.
Row 10 (dec) P1, [p2tog] twice, p1—4 sts.
Row 12 P4. Row 13 (dec) K1, k2tog, k1—3 sts.
P 1 row, k 1 row p 1 row. K3tog. Fasten off last st.
Roll last 4 rows and tail end into center to form stuffing. With cast-on tail, sew
around edges to gather into a ball. Leave tail for finishing.
FINISHING
Lightly block leaves.
Assemble garland
Make a loop approx 11⁄ 2"/4cm long in one end of long I-cord stem, tack in
place. *Sew base of next long I-cord stem at same point as tack on opposite
side of cord. Make a loop in opposite end of next cord, tack in place; rep from
* to last long I-cord, then rep with short I-cord, omitting loop.
Using photo as guide, sew additional leaves to garland so that each join has
a group of 2 or 3 leaves, with 3 at each end. Sew berries in center of leaf
clusters. %
