The Southern Poland Pilgrimage - including the Footsteps of Pope John Paul II
Day 1 - KRAKOW (D)
Arrival in Krakow. Orientation tour of the city and walk through the
picturesque Old Town. Prior to dinner we will have a brief presentation
of biography of Pope John Paul II with focus on his life in Poland that will
introduce us to many sites where Holly Father lived or stayed and that we will
visit later. Attend the Holly Mass at Franciscan Church, where Karol Wojtyla
had "his own" bench.
Day 2 - KRAKOW (B, L)
Visit Krakow in the footsteps of Holy Father John Paul II with places such as:
the Bishop's Palace where Karol Wojtyła used to live, St. Florian 's Church
where he was a vicar, or the beautiful Church of St. Francis of Assisi - his
favourite praying place. Stop by Franciszkanska Street with the famous
Pope 's window where John Paul II used to show up to talk with Cracovians
during his pilgrimages to Poland. Walk to the Higher Clerical Seminary of the
Krakow Archdiocese, where he studied and to the house on Kanonicza
street where he lived as a bishop. Visit to the Royal Cathedral on Wawel Hill,
where in crypt of St. Leonard, Karol Wojtyla conducted his first service. Walk
to the Jagiellonian University's Collegium Novum where Karol Wojtyla began
his Polish linguistics studies in the philosophical department. Afternoon
drive to Auschwitz-Birkenau, a former Nazi concentration camp.
Day 3 - KRAKOW - WADOWICE
- KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA - KRAKOW (B, L)
Drive to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska. From far away you may see the monastery
complex of the Bernardine Father with the early baroque church of the
Angelic Mother of God. To the south of the monastery, on the area of 300
hectares are located the famous Calvary paths, with churches, chapels and
wayside shrines which location in the terrain imitates the topography
of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem service conducted in natural scenery has
attracted thousands of pilgrims from the very beginning. Degustation of the
famous Pope 's Cream Cake. Drive to Wadowice, the birthplace of Pope
John Paul II to see his house and the Wadowice Church of Presentation
of the Virgin Mary, where Karol Wojtyla was baptized.
Day 4 - KRAKOW - ZAKOPANE - KRAKOW (B, D)
Depart for Zakopane. En route stop in Ludzmierz, a small village with its
magnificent icon of the Virgin, the Queen of Podhale. In 1963 during
the crowning ceremony, as the feretory bearing the figure was being
carried, the scepter fell from its hands. It was caught in mid-air by then the
Bishop of Krakow, Karol Wojtyla, who years later became a Pope.
In Zakopane take a cable car to the nearby mountaintop of Gubalowka
for a thrilling panoramic view. It is here that he hiked the many wooded trails.
Learn about his love of the outdoors, his excellent athletic ability (hiking,
skiing, etc.) and his love of theater and poetry. Stop by the Sanctuary of the
Virgin Mary of Fatima.
Day 5 - KRAKOW - LAGIEWNIKI - CZESTOCHOWA (B, L)
Departure for Lagiewniki. We will visit the Sanctuary that houses the image
of Merciful Jesus and the relics of St. Faustina. We will also visit
St. Faustina's convent chapel, the Shrine of Divine Mercy and St. Faustina's
Tomb. Meeting a sister from the convent who will also present the short
history of St. Faustina. But while in Lagiewniki you cannot omit to visit the
new John Paul II Center where the relics of the Holy Father – the cruet with
His blood, the crosier, and the plaque from His grave – are presented in the
Church of the Blessed John Paul II. Afterwards, departure for Czestochowa.
Upon arrival, first we will invite you for lunch to a local restaurant and then
continue with a visit to the Sanctuary of Jasna Gora, the capital of Polish
Catholic Church and the main pilgrimage destination of Poland. See the
famous, miraculous Painting of Black Madonna, visit the Treasury Room
with the impressive collection of many precious gifts received by the
monastery throughout the ages, including the Golden Rose given by Pope
John Paul II. Also see a very intriguing Way of Cross painted by one of the
most famous Polish artists, Jerzy Duda- Gracz, which is a touching
presentation of the last moments of Jesus.
Day 6 - CZESTOCHOWA - GORA SW. ANNY
- PIEKARY SLASKIE - WROCLAW (B, D)
Depart for Wroclaw. En route stop at St. Anna Mountain (Gora Sw. Anny).
The ancient cult of St. Anna is combined with special services for the Mother
of God and Passion of Christ. Afterwards, drive to Piekary Slaskie. The local
cult of the Mother of God goes back to the 15th century. Since the
17th century it has been associated with the picture of the Piekary Mother
of God which gained the fame at that time for remarkable acts of grace
and was recognised as miraculous. Drive to Wroclaw, a city with one of the
most beautiful and largest market squares in Poland and its town hall
that is recognized as a gem of Gothic-Renaissance urban architecture.
After arrival in Wroclaw accommodation at your hotel and dinner at local
restaurant located in the Old Town.
Day 7 - WROCLAW - BARDO - WAMBIERZYCE
- WROCLAW (B, L)
Morning drive to Bardo with its baroque basilica of the Redemptorist Fathers
in which on the main altar stands the Romanesque statue of the Madonna
with Child. There is a Calvary built in 18th century with 6 wayside shrines
devoted to the Mother of God. Afterwards, drive to Wambierzyce, the village
that is lying at the foot of Stolowe Mountain. The monumental basilica with
the wooden figure of the Mother of God with Child called Wambierzycka.
In 18th century the new basilica was built surrounded by the most precious
Calvaries of that time, where 130 figures in 92 chapels portray specific
events from the life of Christ and Mary and the Passion of Christ.

The Best of Pilgrimages to Poland - including the Traces of Saint Faustina
Day 1 - WARSAW (D)
Day 4 - CZESTOCHOWA-OSWIECIM-KRAKOW (B, D)
Group's arrival in Warsaw. Orientation walk along the Old Town with a visit to
Basilica of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Warsaw's
oldest church, site of the celebrations in the year of 1791 when Poland's
Constitution of May 3, the first constitution in Europe and only the second
in the world was proclaimed. Walk along the Market Square and the New
Town. Enjoy your welcome dinner and degustate typical Polish dishes
served in one of the Warsaw’s restaurants located in the beautiful Old
Market Square.
Morning departure for Kraków. En route stop in Oswiecim to see the former
Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the biggest factory of death
in the history of humanity and the silent witness of human tragedy. After
arrival in Kraków, tour of the city including the Old Town area with beautiful
Market Square and the St. Mary's Church famous for its wooden, glorious
altar by Wit Stwosz. Visit also the Franciscan Church to see the most
interesting Art-Nouveau stained-glass windows in the chancel and above
the organ loft, the latter being regarded among the greatest in Poland. Stop
at the St. Catherine's Church for an organ concert.
Day 2 - WARSAW (B, D)
A morning visit to St. Stanislaw Kostka Church and lecture „The Catholic
church in Poland under communism and in the transition to democracy“.
Also visit the special exhibition devoted to Father Jerzy Popieluszko, one of
the greatest church personalities in Poland murdered by the communists.
Drive through the Royal Route with many historical monuments, aristocratic
residences and churches, including a stop by the Holy Cross Church where
Frederic Chopin's heart is placed. Stop at the Pilsudski Square where you
can see a specially designed cross that stands in the place where Pope
John Paul II celebrated Holy Mass in 1979, during his first pilgrimage to
Poland as a Pope. Afternoon drive to the Convent of Divine Mercy at Zytnia
Street, which Faustina joined in 1924. Afterwards, drive to Walendow and
Derdy to visit the Convent of Sisters of Divine Mercy where Faustina stayed
in 1936.
Day 3 - WARSAW-PLOCK-GLOGOWIEC-CZESTOCHOWA (B, L)
Morning drive to Plock to visit the convent that Faustina joined in 1930. It is
here where on February 22nd, 1931 Jesus appeared to her bringing the
wonderful message of Mercy for all of the mankind. Asked to do so by the
Lord, Faustina painted the picture of His Divine Mercy with the inscription
„Jesus, I trust in You“. Afterwards, drive to Glogowiec where she was born
and to church of Swinice Warckie, where she was baptized. Continue to
Czestochowa to visit Jasna Gora Monastery. See the Black Madonna
Shrine and the Treasury Room where is an impressive collection of many
precious gifts received by the monastery throughout the ages. Walk along
the fortification walls of the Pauline Monastery and the Way of the Cross.
Day 5 - KRAKOW-KALWARIA ZEBRZYDOWSKA-WADOWICE
-KRAKOW (B, L)
Drive to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska that is lying among the colorful hills of the
Wadowice Upland. From far away you may see the monastery complex of
the Bernardine Father with the early baroque church of the Angelic Mother
of God. To the south of the monastery there is a famous imitation of Calvary
path with chapels and shrines that all resemble the topography of
Jerusalem. It covers the area of 300 hectares and attracts 1 million pilgrims
annually. Afterwards, drive to Wadowice. Visit the house, now a museum,
where Pope John Paul II was born in 1920. See the Wadowice Church of
the Presentation of the Virgin Mary, where He was baptized.
Day 6 - KRAKÓW-ŁAGIEWNIKI (B, D)
Morning drive to Lagiewniki to visit the Blessed Sister Faustina Convent.
Sister Faustina was the person to whom Jesus appeared in 1931 bringing
the wonderful message of Mercy for all of mankind. Asked to do so by the
Lord, Sister Faustina painted the picture of His Divine Mercy with the
inscription „Jesus I Trust in You“. But while in Lagiewniki you cannot omit to
visit the new John Paul II Center where the relics of the Holy Father – the
cruet with His blood, the crosier, and the plaque from His grave – are
presented in the Church of the Blessed John Paul II. Attend the Mass at
Sister Faustina Convent in Kraków. Drive back to Kraków to visit the
Archdiocesan Museum of the Archdiocesan Museum that presents
collections of sacred art borrowed from the treasuries of various churches.

The Pearls of Northern Poland Sanctuaries -including Five Pilgrimage Wonders
Day 1 - WARSAW (D)
Upon arrival orientation walk along the Old Town to get acquainted with the
atmosphere of the city. Welcome dinner at one of the local restaurants
to degustate typical Polish dishes.
Day 2 - WARSAW (B, L)
Visit to St. Stanislaw Kostka Church, a place of worship for ”Solidarity”
members during communism times. It was St. Stanislaw Kostka Church,
where the father Jerzy Popieluszko's "Masses for the Homeland" attracted
tens of thousands of worshippers. Jerzy Popieluszko was murdered
by militant security police in 1984 but his death serves as testimony to the
struggle for freedom, basic rights, and human dignity. See a poignant
memorial and a Museum dedicated to the life of this pro-Solidarity priest.
In the year 2010 Father's Popieluszko beatification took place. Drive to the
Old Town to see the beautiful Market Square with St. John's Cathedral, the
oldest church in Warsaw. Evening transfer to one of the historical interiors
of Warsaw for a private piano recital.
Day 3 - WARSZAWA - GIETRZWALD - OLSZTYN (B, D)
Morning departure for Olsztyn, the region called "A land of a thousand
lakes", one of the most picturesque regions of Poland. En route stop in
Gietrzwald Sanctuary to visit the Neo-Gothic church of Sts. Peter & Paul and
the Birth of the Virgin of Mary from the turn of 19th century. The marvellous
picture of the Lady of Warmia Land has been worshipped here since the
16th century. Until the last century the cult of the Mother of God was limited
to the immediate vicinity. The sanctuary of Gietrzwald became a throbbing
centre of Polish patriotism. Drive to Olsztyn for dinner and accommodation.
Day 4 - OLSZTYN - GLOTOWO - SW. LIPKA - OLSZTYN (B, L)
Visit the most famous sanctuaries of Masuria region. First visit to Glotowo
Sanctuary - the Warmia Calvary. Glotow became famous because of the
hidden host that was found by a farmer. Drive to St. Lipka where is the cult
of the Mother of God. The object of the cult is the wooden figure of the
Madonna. A few years later a splendid Baroque basilica that may be
admired today was built here under the patronage of The Visitation of the
Holy Virgin Mary. The sanctuary is one of the most magnificent relics
of Baroque architecture in north - east Europe.
Day 5 - OLSZTYN - MALBORK - PELPLIN - GDANSK (B, L)
Morning departure for Gdansk. En route stop in Malbork to visit the famous
fortress of the Teutonic Knights. The magnificent castle is located on the
banks of the Nogat River. Lunch at a local restaurant located in the wing
of the Malbork Castle. Before entering Gdanks, stop in Pelplin to visit one
of the most beautiful churches of Pomerania region. Upon arrival in Gdansk
visit to the Church of St. Bridget's. This is the church where Lech Walesa
attended holy masses when he was an unknown electrician in the nearby
shipyard. You will find here the tombstone of the murdered priest Jerzy
Popieluszko, the Katyn epitaph, a collection of crosses from the 1980 and
1988 strikes and a door with bas-reliefs of scenes from Solidarity's history.

Day 6 - GDANSK - OLIWA - GDANSK (B, L)
Start the tour of Gdansk from the Upland Gate - a fragment of the city's
fortifications and one of its main gates. Pass by a bakedbrick construction
consisting of the Prison Tower and the Torture House - relics of the Gothic
defence walls from the 15th century. The Golden Gate, situated next to the
Prison Tower, opens onto the Long Market - a magnificent street, with
Patrician mansions decorated with late Renaissance and Baroque facades.
Beyond the Main Town Hall, we admire the Artus Court - building used
for Hanseatic League meetings. Just behind it rises the tower of St. Mary's
Basilica, a part of the most precious and largest redbrick Gothic church.
Drive to Oliwa to visit the local cathedral. The cornerstone of the Cistercian
Monastery in Oliwa was laid down in 1188. Short organ concert and drive
back to Gdansk.
Day 7 - GDANSK-TORUN-GNIEZNO-POZNAN (B, L)
Departure for Poznan. En route stop in Torun, one of the most magnificent
historic cities in Poland and the birthplace of Copernicus, a great Polish
astronomer. Visit the St. John’s Cathedral, one of the biggest Gothic
churches in Poland. Degustation of famous Torun gingerbread made
according to the old Polish recepies. Afterwards, drive to Gniezno to visit the
pride of the city, Gniezno Cathedral. The most precious possession of the
church is the pair of 12th century bronze doors that depict in basrelief
18 scenes from the life of St. Adalbert. Continue to Poznan. Orientation walk
through the historic part of the city with the famous Town Hall, the Collegiate
Church, one of the most impressive Baroque sacral edifices in Poland.
Day 8 - POZNAN - LICHEN - NIEPOKALANOW - LOWICZ
- WARSZAWA (B, L, D)
Morning visit to Ostrow Tumski, an island which is the oldest borough
of Poznan dominated by the monumental Gothic Cathedral of St. Peter and
St.Paul built in the 14th century. See the 15th century Archbishop's Palace
and the nearby Church of the Virgin Mary. Departure for Lichen Sanctuary,
probably the second famous sanctuary, after Czestochowa, devoted to the
cult of the Virgin Mary in Poland. Lunch at Teresin Palace en route and stop
in Niepokalanow Sanctuary & Franciscan Monastery linked with the figure
of St. Maximilian Maria Raymond Kolbe - a martyr from the death camp
in Auschwitz. The monastery was founded in 1927 and in 1980 John Paul II
gave the church the title of a lesser basilica. Meet the priest from the
Niepokalanow Sanctuary. Visit the museum of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
and continue to Warsaw. End your trip with your farewell dinner served at
one of the finest local restaurants.
