Founded by the Vikings and later

oldest city. 1100 years of history lie

famous Waterford Crystal Factory, the
city’s Georgian Museum in the restored

Waterford, the Dunbrody Famine Ship
is a replica of an 1840 Famine Ship
that was responsible for the transport
of the endless stream of emigrants
escaping the Great Famine, across to

The world’s leading luxury crystal
brand was originally founded in
1783 by two brothers William and
George Penrose. They decided
they wanted “to create the finest
quality crystal for drinking vessels
and objects of beauty for the home.”
Their aspirations gave rise to the
now world famous Waterford Crystal,
which has been designing and
manufacturing some of the world’s
most exquisite pieces of tableware
and gifts for over 200 years.
The Waterford Crystal factory,
located in the heart of Waterford
City, welcomes visitors to witness the
skill of the craftsmen as they mould,
blow, cut and engrave crystal. After
watching the master craftsmen
at work, visitors can browse
the House of Waterford Crystal
showroom, where a huge range of
elegant pieces are on display.

Viking Triangle
Waterford’s Historic City Centre
Waterford’s Viking Triangle is in
the heart of the city, located on
the site of the original 9th-century
Viking settlement. It is home to
museums, national monuments and
over a thousand years of history.
Reginald’s Tower, dating back to
the Norman period showcases
a collection of intriguing Viking
artefacts, the city’s modern history is
celebrated at the restored Georgian
Bishop’s Palace, while Waterford’s
medieval history can be explored at
Choristers’ Hall, opening Summer
2012. Waterford has a rich cultural
tradition and within the triangle,
located in a beautiful Victorian
playhouse is the Theatre Royal.
A spectacular display of indigenous
craftsmanship can be witnessed at
the Waterford Crystal Factory, also
situated in the Viking Triangle.
