unable to adapt to the ‘new world’. Yet,

growing at a far more rapid rate than
they would have previously forecast.

The DHF Powered Gate Group was
only formed in 2010 but since then
it has become recognised as the
leading trade association of its kind
in the UK. It now has over 80 member
companies covering manufacturers,
component suppliers and installers.
And membership continues to grow.

venues throughout the UK. None of
this could have been achieved without
the tremendous input and efforts of
our member companies and their
employees.
But, of course, we have much more
to do. We need to embrace and get
the attention of all the powered gate
installers in the UK (and Ireland) so
that we can help and train them,
particularly in safety critical issues. We
also need to make as much noise as
possible to try and ensure the general
public and anybody responsible for
gates are aware of the serious issues.
All our efforts must go into doing as
much as possible to prevent further
deaths and injuries happening.
When the Group was formed at the
end of 2010, with the encouragement
of the Health and Safety Executive,
there was very little guidance freely
available to the industry concerning
legislation and, more importantly, the
critical safety aspects of powered gate
installations. Therefore, the first task
was to provide a guide to gate safety
legislation and standards which was
published in January 2012.
So, this takes us back to ‘Fencex’
and ‘Gate Safety Week’. It’s all about
making the industry at large and the
general public aware of the position
and informing them of the help that
is available. ‘Fencex’ and ‘Gate Safety
Week’ provide us with the platforms to
do exactly that.
Then in 2013 we turned to training and
introduced the ‘Powered Gate Safety
Diploma’ course. The support from
the industry for this training course

Telguard manufactures and distributes GSM and telephone based intercom systems. We are
proud of the fact that we are a UK company. Our products are reliable, cost effective and installer
programmable. We have the ABST-Bespoke and the Hy-Can CU. Both are GSM platforms and fully
operational. The ABST-Bespoke is gloss black with a silicone keypad backlit with up to 7 different
colours. This product offers a single call destination with 8-call forward numbers. It has a dial to open
facility and 400 code keypad. Programming can be carried out by SMS, keypad, dial-in, GSM modem
or directly on to the PCB via a header. The battery backed time clock allows for 9-time zones. The
Hy-Can CU is a GSM video intercom which will show video from the intercom to an android phone or
deuce. This requires a 3G Sim card and a 3G signal. This product can be added to most of the Telguard
range. We also have the Hy-Can CU 2 PAL which has up to 2 Pal cameras connected to the Telguard
and the user has the ability to switch between cameras during the call.
