Worship Center
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
is celebrated at the 10am Mass. Children ages 4 TO 8 are
invited to gather in the Daily Mass Chapel during the liturgy
to listen to and participate in the Liturgy of the Word in a
way that is relevant to their young lives. They return to their
family before the celebration of the Eucharist. No
registration is necessary, however we do ask that only
children between those ages attend.
Children who are 3 years and under are invited to attend the
activities in our Parish Nursery. The Nursery Coordinator has
prepared Bible Stories, Songs
and Activities that are
developmentally appropriate
for younger children. Please
call Heather @ 369-2632 to
register for the Nursery.
Not Just “Ordinary Time”
The Church liturgical calendar celebrates
Ordinary Time during the summer
months. Actually, Ordinary Time begins
the Monday after Pentecost and
concludes with the onset of the First
Sunday of Advent. The liturgical color
prescribed for Ordinary Time is green,
symbolizing life and hope. Far from being “ordinary”
Sundays, these days in the liturgical calendar are marked by
readings from Jesus’ public ministry. Many of the readings
this summer are from the Gospel of Luke, which is known as
the “gospel of compassion.”
In the car on the way home from Mass, talk about what each
member of the family learned from the Gospel reading or
the priest’s message during the homily. Did you hear the
message of life and hope that so beautifully represents
Ordinary Time (and summertime)?
From Take Out: Family Faith on the Go www.osvparish.com
Sacraments
Baptisms at OLMC are celebrated
seven times throughout the year.
Whether you are parents-to-be, parents of an infant, or parents of a
young child, we invite you to consider
having your child baptized into the
Catholic faith at Our Lady of Mount
Carmel Church. Parents are encouraged to register early to accommodate family and godparents’ schedules. Dates are now available for August, October and November. Contact Christa @ 595-0385,
x119 or e-mail [email protected].
New to the parish? Plan to attend the Parish Welcoming &
Parish Registration in the Commons Meeting Space at
11:15am, the second Sunday of each month.
Nursery
Our nursery is a CO-Op Nursery, currently at the 10:00am
Mass, staffed by parents who utilize the nursery and volunteer about one Sunday per month. It is a place for children
ages 1 year to 4 years old to come together to worship, learn
about God and grow in their faith development through
bible stories, songs and activities. Please call Heather @ 369
-2632 or Christa @ 595-0385 ext. 119 for more information or
to register.
As per Diocesan requirements, we are required to have at least 2 caregivers present in
the nursery at all times. In addition, adult volunteers must complete the 3
hour VIRTUS training (go to
virtusonline.org to register).

Initiation Programs
Steubenville Experience
From July 10th to the 13th, 10 youth and 2 adults traveled with
250 other youth and adults from the Diocese of Richmond to
the Steubenville Atlanta Conference. There, we experienced
Mass, Adoration, Reconciliation and speaker testimonies, all
while interacting with over 3000 Catholic teens from around
the USA. Here are some things said about the experience:
RCIA Inquiry (Rite of Christian Initiation)
Who should attend the RCIA?
∗ Those who wish to learn about
the teachings of the Catholic
church
∗ Those who have never been
baptized
∗ Those who are thinking about
“converting” from another Christian faith
∗ Catholics who have not completed their Sacraments of
Initiation (Communion and/or Confirmation)
∗ Active Catholics who wish to walk the journey as sponsors
Why not give a meeting a try! Our no-obligation sessions are
held Tuesday evenings from 7 until 8:30pm; 3 weeks on---one
week off! The next gathering is August 12th, and you are welcome to join us. We meet in St. Michael Hall.
“It was by far the BEST weekend of my life!” - Teen Attendee
“I’ve never been this close to God in my life. I feel like I’ve
grown stronger in my faith because of this weekend.” - Teen
Attendee
“The most impactful moment for me in the conference was
Saturday night adoration. There was no doubt God was with us
at that very moment, I felt his presence, I felt his warmness in
the hug he was giving me.” - Teen Attendee
“That was so much fun! Can we go back?” - Adult Chaperon

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School News
OLMC School has served families in the Hampton Roads area for over 60 years, teaching the whole child in
the tradition of the Catholic Church and of the Nashville Dominicans. With a mission rooted in the Gospel
and in the Church, the school receives and participates in the great command of Jesus Christ to “go and
teach all nations.” With morning and afternoon prayers, weekly attendance at Mass, and daily religion
classes, the OLMC school community values the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.
OLMC School has long enjoyed a reputation for academic excellence, which was magnified in 2009 when it
was awarded the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence for its sustained, distinguished academic achievement.
The Blue Ribbon is a national recognition of what the students have always received at OLMC – a strong
foundation in academics, morals, and discipline. The students and teachers, supported by the wider parent
community and the parish, engage in teaching and learning in a creative, warm, Christ-centered environment.
Applications for the 2014-2015 School Year are currently being accepted.
If you would like a tour of our school or have any questions about a particular
grade or curriculum requirements, please call Mrs. Tucker at 596-2754.
