August 28, 2011 ŚWIĘTA JADWIGA SANTA EDUVIGES 2226 NORTH HOYNE AVENUE • CHICAGO, IL 60647 W EEKLY R EFLECTION THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT „You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”. EX 20,16 „It was said to the men of old, "You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.” Mt 5,33 2464 The eighth commandment forbids misrepresenting the truth in our relations with others. This moral prescription flows from the vocation of the holy people to bear witness to their God who is the truth and wills the truth. 2465 The Old Testament attests that God is the source of all truth. His Word is truth. His Law is truth. His "faithfulness endures to all generations. Since God is "true," the members of his people are called to live in the truth. 2466 In Jesus Christ, the whole of God's truth has been made manifest. "Full of grace and truth," he came as the "light of the world," he is the Truth. "Whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness." The disciple of Jesus continues in his word so as to know "the truth [that] will make you free" and that sanctifies. To follow Jesus is to live in "the Spirit of truth," whom the Father sends in his name and who leads "into all the truth." To his disciples Jesus teaches the unconditional love of truth: "Let what you say be simply 'Yes or No.'" Continued on page 2 St. Hedwig, pray for us. Św. Jadwigo, módl się za nami. READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF August 28 - September 4, 2011 Against Truth Offenses Sunday: 2475 Christ's disciples have "put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness." By "putting away falsehood," they are to "put away all malice Monday: and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander." False witness and perjury Tuesday: Detraction and calumny destroy the reputation and honor of one's neighbor Boasting or bragging is an offense against truth. So is irony aimed at disparaging someone by Wednesday: Jer 20:7-9/ Rom 12:1-2/ Mt 16:21-27 1 Thes 4:13-18/ Mk 6:17-29 1 Thes 5:1-6, 9-11/ Lk 4:31-37 Col 1:1-8/ Lk 4:38-44 Col 1:9-14/ Lk 5:1-11 Col 1:15-20/ Lk 5:33-39 Col 1:21-23/ Lk 6:1-5 Ez 33:7-9/ Rom 13:8-10/ Mt 18:15-20 Thursday: maliciously caricaturing some aspect of his behavior. A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of deceiving." The Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil: "You are of your father the devil, . . . there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." My Friends. Sally Cardenas - Health & Blessings Barbara Durbin - Health & Blessings REFLEXIÓN R E F L E K S J E T YG O D N I A 6 EL OCTAVO MANDAMIENTO ÓSME PRZYKAZANIE «No darás testimonio falso contra tu prójimo» (Ex 20, 16). Uczeo Jezusa "trwa w Jego nauce", by poznad "prawdę, która wyzwala" (J 8, 32) i uświęca. Wykroczenia przeciw prawdzie 2475 Uczniowie Chrystusa "przyoblekli człowieka nowego, stworzonego według Boga, w sprawiedliwości i prawdziwej świętości" (Ef 4, 24). "Odrzuciwszy kłamstwo" (Ef 4, 25), mają "odrzucid... wszelkie zło, wszelki podstęp i udawanie, zazdrośd i jakiekolwiek złe mowy" (1 P 2,1). Fałszywe świadectwo i krzywoprzysięstwo! Dni Eucharystyczne: W najbliższym tygodniu obchodzimy I czwartek, piatek i sobotę miesiąca. Zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy o dar nowych powołao kapłanskich i zakonnych oraz do skorzystania miesięcznej spowiedzi św.
