On Joy, “Mousetrap” and Mercy Confirma*on Prep Do you remember the children’s board game called “Mousetrap”? The words some assembly required on the Confirmaon Candidates worked on the rough draHs of their Bishop’s le3ers this week. Any student who missed this last Confirmaon Prep session, please see Mrs. Skinner or Jim Garvey for informaon. front of the box are slightly misleading, as there must be Keeping All God’s Children Safe Our diocese has policies and procedures to create a safe environment and protect children. Read the policies and learn how you can help create a culture of protecon. h3p://syracusediocese.org/safeͲenvironment/ one hundred pieces to put together before play can even commence, well maybe not one hundred, but certainly a lot of pieces! And just as everything is snapped into place, even the Are You Seeking Something More? How You Can Become Catholic “Becoming Catholic is a process of falling in love. The person we’re falling in love with, over and over again, more and more deeply, is Jesus Christ. To become Catholic, you have to open your heart to the love Jesus has for you and return that love as best you can.” Nick Wagner, The Heart of Faith. If this is what you are seeking, then give us a call. The process of becoming Catholic is very flexible and tailored to the individual. For more informaon contact Fr. Tom or Debbie Krisher at [email protected] or call 638Ͳ0585. Would you like to be confirmed? Confirmaon bestows on us the giH of the Holy Spirit and invites us into lifelong discipleship of Jesus Christ. It is one of the three sacraments of iniaon into the Catholic Church. There are many reasons why someone reaches adulthood and has not celebrated the sacrament of Confirmaon. If you are interested in becoming confirmed please contact Fr. Tom or Debbie, 638Ͳ0585 or [email protected] for more informaon. The process is very flexible and tailored to the individual. slightest jolt or jiggle of the board can cause the boot to prematurely kick the bucket which sets off an enre chain reacon of movements that lead to the basket Ͳlike mousetrap being dropped. So then one begins the arduous process of reͲseng the trap and on it goes… probably eventually the game is played and laughter ensues, but most of my memories of “Mousetrap” conjure up feelings of annoyance and lots of interrupted playme. Before readers write me off as a complete “Debbie Downer”, here’s where I’m heading with the “Mousetrap” analogy: “Chrisans cannot be pessimists! They do not look like someone in constant mourning. If we are truly in love with Christ and if we sense how much he loves us, our hearts will “light up” with a joy that spreads to everyone around us.”―Pope Francis, the Church of Mercy Want to read more? SmallͲ toͲ mediumͲsized men's clothing only, please. We especially need longͲ sleeved work shirts, pants, work gloves, and rain ponchos. Also needed are men’s work shoes or sneakers in size 7 and up. We are looking to collect bedding supplies for the men that weekend as well. Please leave the items in the Gathering Room aHer each Mass. If there is a large amount of clothing, please call 638Ͳ1420 and arrangements will be made. Thanks so much. th st Outhouse Challenge #4 Members of our Prayer Shawl Ministry team recently gathered together for their Spring meeng. As you can see from the picture, they had a very producve winter! The beauful prayer shawls, each unique in design, will be blessed by Fr. Tom and distributed to anyone who is in need of prayers and healing. Each prayer shawl is created with love and the recipients feel the comfort as they wrap themselves in God’s care through the giHs of this parish outreach ministry. The members of this group also create the beauful Bapsmal shawls for our newest members of the church. The intricate details and soH white, babyͲfine yarn that made up each shawl represents both a giH of love and an expression of faith. The traveling Outhouse will return to the Gathering room for the month of May. This will be our fourth year! Every year we ‘overflow’ the Outhouse…. with paper goods, of course, for the Baldwinsville Food Pantry. Hopefully we can do it again as the Pantry is always in dire need of such supplies. The paper products needed are: toilet paper, paper towels and ssues, laundry detergent, bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and deodorant. Beyond that, whatever toiletry items anyone would like to donate! A total of8,600 toiletry items have beencollected by St. Augusne’s to date. Let’s set a goal to break 10,000! “Prayer shawls are tangible symbols of love. They are warm hugs of empathy and support; a private place of escape in which to rest, relax and renew; something to hold on to when all else seems to be slipping away. Wrapping others in shawls made with prayer and loving thoughts is the giH. Prayer begins in the heart and the creaon of a prayer shawl is a spiritual journey of prayer for the shawl maker. “ For more informaon on this lifeͲgiving, hearYelt ministry, please visit our parish website staugusnesparish.org and search “prayer shawl ministry”. Page Six St. Augusne’s Church, Baldwinsville, New York April 24, 2016 A Reflecon on the 2016 Women’s Retreat By Fauna Lang This year's women's retreat was the best retreat I have ever been on. The Holy Spirit’s presence was evident from the moment we began, ushering Jesus into our lives and showing us each how uniquely wonderful we are in His eyes. Our fearless leader, Meg Castellini, helped us journey down the road of knowing that we don't have to be what the world views as "the best" to be a follower of Jesus Christ. He calls us just where we are; just as we are. A po3er (Ruth Thomson) came to share her trade with us and we gained understanding of what it means when Isaiah says "We are the clay, you (God) are the po3er” in a very real and tangible way. We even got to play with clay and create our own "masterpieces" as Meg guided us through a meditaon where we met with Jesus and He shared His inmate thoughts towards us. Mass with Fr. Tom was a fun and intenonal celebraon of the many things we had explored as disciples of Christ. We are so very blessed to have a Pastor who is willing to smell like his sheep!! As our me together came to an end, we blessed one another with treasure chests full of gold coins that we filled for each other with words of encouragement and love. I know I wasn't the only one leaving with a new vision and hope for the call of Christ Jesus on our lives. The women of St. Augusne's are a force to be reckoned with! I will be forever grateful for the discoveries and joys God brought to me this weekend. We are sisters called to this place for such a me as this. I am most grateful and blessed that I had the opportunity to be a part of this awesome weekend.
