Newsletter March 2016 - Church Road Primary School
Church Road Primary School Newsletter March 2016 Staff news We have a new caretaker starting at school. Mr Jonathan Hughes will be joining us before Easter. We know you will all make him very welcome. A big thank you to our temporary caretaker, Mr Lathwell who has been a super star! Miss Prudence will be starting her maternity leave in the next few weeks, and we wish her all the best. Miss Amatt will cover her class after Easter. Our two students, Danielle Smith and Adam Cox will return to us for the summer term. Thank you all for your lovely support during our recent Ofsted inspection. The inspectors were really impressed with your lovely children and the quality of education we provide for them. The report is available to read on our website and on the Ofsted website. If you would like a printed copy of the report, please call into the school Thank you for your understanding during the recent snowy weather. As long as the school is accessible on foot, we will be open. Please don’t ring the school to check if we are open. If we can’t open for any reason we will let you know by text message, on Facebook and through the Bolton.gov website. 15/03/16 16/03/16 16/03/16 16/03/16 16/03/16 16/03/16 17/03/16 18/03/16 04/04/16 05/04/16 12/04/16 13/04/16 Year 5 Easter Experience at St Peters Church Year 6 Easter Experience at St Peters Church Year 2 walk Barrow Bridge- 1pm Maths Evening for Parents Easter Bingo 6pm Spring KS2 Concert- 9:15am Moss Bank Park – Cross Country 5G family assembly 9:15am Training day for staff School re-opens for the summer term 8:50am Year 2 Visit to Blackpool Zoo Oral Health Team for EYFS Keep Safe Please be aware that there will be no School Crossing Patrol Officer on Church Road on the morning of Wednesday 20th April. This represents great value for money. Children in reception, Y1 and Y2 have free school meals. Children in KS2 will only pay £1.25 per day , £6.25 per week Please pay any lunch money on Mondays in a clearly marked envelope. If you would like to pay for lunches half a term at a time, we are able to arrange that. Next half term is eight weeks, two training days, bank holiday and local elections which equates to 37 days x £1.25 = £46.25 As many of you know, the school gets additional money for those children who are entitled to free school meals As children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 automatically get free meals, not all families are registering their entitlement. This means the school may not be getting all the money we are eligible for. If your family are in receipt of any of the following benefits, please take a few minutes to check that you are registered. Many thanks. Income Based Job Seekers Allowance Income Related Employment Support Allowance Attendance Our attendance figure for this term is 95.9% which is below the National average of 96.1%. During next term we need a big push to increase our attendance figure and with your help we can. Mr Mills and Mrs Lamb are Learning Mentors in the school. If you need any help, support or advice in raising your child’s attendance level then make an appointment at the office to meet with them. Low attendance does affects children's learning, achievement and successes in school. Give your child the best chance by increasing their attendance! Appointments We do understand that sometimes appointments during the school day are unavoidable. Please could we ask that such appointments are kept to a minimum? Please show the children’s appointment card/ letter when you collect them from school. Thank you Building work around school New school logo and motto You may have seen the children bringing home a leaflet about a new school badge. We are tapping into their creativity and asking them to come up with a new school badge that reflects our new school motto Church Road School - Our Place to Shine We will use the new logo on our website, school books and planners this year. From September 2017 it will also be used on our school uniform. We would like to start a dialogue about school uniform. We are prepared to listen to all ideas (although we can’t promise to use them all)! What is school uniform for? What would be the best combination? How can we make sure it’s affordable/durable/practical and how can we cut down on the lost property pile? We will probably be sticking with green and yellow, but there are many different shades of these colours we could use. We will open up a forum to discuss this on our blog. We are at the start of a programme to develop parts of the school. The work should start during the Easter holidays with the demolition of the old Nursery building on the EYFS playground. At various times during the next seven months there will be work to: Extend the school kitchen Move the main entrance to the “Moorland Grove” side of the school Extend the school car park Replace the boundary walls Develop the playgrounds. As much as we would like to get the work done in the holiday periods, this is not going to be possible and we are going to have to ask for your patience and understanding over the next few months. It will look very smart when it is all finished. When we have more news and details we will let you know. Parent teacher association Our first evening meeting of the PTA went well. We had a few new parents along, and as we hoped, we had some new ideas put forward. We are going to try that again to see if we can get even more parents and staff involved. The main out comes of the meeting were: A decision to run two Easter Bingo evenings if the numbers were sufficient, so that no one is disappointed. We would look at local firms to see whether anyone would be willing to sponsor a sports kit for the school The summer fair would be a bigger affair this year with more attractions and advertising The PTA will look into organising a large raffle to try to raise money from outside our school community Allotment Easter Bingo Easter bingo was a terrific success. Thank you to all those who attended. Your continued support is invaluable! We will let you know the total funds raised on our next Newsletter. Now the sun is shining classes are beginning to make their way down to the allotment. Year 1 will be planting leeks, Year 2 are trying out beetroot while Year 5 have onion sets to plant. Each year group has potatoes chitting ready to plant in a potato sack. We all hope to grow a sunflower too! Don’t forget offers of help are always appreciated. Please do consider getting in touch with Mrs Rigby or Mrs Porter to help out. A big thank you for all your kind cake donations! Breaking news! Mrs Schofield’s brother has agreed to sponsor a sports kit for the school. That’s great news. Thank you very much to “Meadow House Interim Management”. As a growing school , we could do with two strips, so keep asking around your friends and family if they have a business that could sponsor a kit. Parking We have some new zigzag lines around school. They look very smart, but that is not their purpose. They are there to keep your children safe. We have had a complaint from a member of the public who drives past the school regularly at 3:30pm. she has also provided several photographs which show people parking and collecting children in very dangerous places and situations. We have asked the police to monitor the situation, but really it shouldn’t take that. Please don’t cut corners with child safety. We do understand it’s only a few parents/carers/taxi drivers who are causing the problem. Thank you so much to the many, many others who are thoughtful and keep all children safe. NEVER park on the zigzag lines outside school, not even “for one minute to drop off”. They are there for a reason. Children and parents need to be able to see cars moving. Our school was never designed to manage such traffic and we all need to take responsibility for the safety of all the lovely children in school.
