Enjoying Summer To The Max
Even More With digiMAX
The routines of summer are in place
as we enjoy the days and nights
that summertime offers us. There
are many activities happening
throughout
our
community
and beyond. People will travel
somewhere for vacation while
others enjoy sitting back and
relaxing at home. Whatever you
do this busy summer, digiMAX will
keep you connected.
The high speed Internet service,
high quality telephone service
with 911, and of course our latest
offering of IPTV service will always
be there for you. This summer
MTCO is upgrading our IPTV
service to all of our customers in
Marseilles. The upgrade displays
a new look to your guide as well
as other great enhancements to
make your connection with MTCO
even more enjoyable. The channel
guide data will extend out to 12
days, and the grid size of the guide
will be adjustable for your viewing
preference. With the upgrade, you’ll
receive 18 more channels in crystal
clear HD!
The new upgraded services with
digiMAX will include integrating
your telephone voicemail service
with your TV. You will be able to
check your messages and listen to
them through your television while
sitting in your Lazy Boy chair. Also,
you can retrieve your voicemail
messages while online, or have
them sent to any email address
as an MP3. How’s that for being
connected?
New enhancements for your TV
viewing includes the ability to
control your DVR while being
away from home.
View the
Channel Guide, schedule or cancel
recordings, and see a list of what is
in your DVR library all from any pc or
laptop that can access the Internet.
The new upgrade allows each family
member to create their own folders
to store their DVR shows in. There is
a fun new App that lists the top five
channels all customers are currently
watching called “What’s Hot.”
We’ll be turning up four Pay-PerView Movie channels along with
the EventTV channel in HD. For a
full overview of all these exciting
enhancements, visit http://www.
mtco.com/?television&upgrade.

Entertainment & Technology
Nonstop to London
July 27 - August 12, 2012
The Games of the XXX Olympiad from London will
be televised across the networks of NBC Universal,
beginning with preliminary-round soccer games on
Wednesday, July 25, and concluding with the Closing
Ceremony on Sunday, August 12.
The first Primetime Show will be
Friday, July 27, the night of the
Opening Ceremony in HD
on digiMAX NBC channel
502 (digital channel 5).
In addition to the NBC’s
coverage, the recently
re-branded NBC Sports
Network channel (digiMAX
HD channel 555/digital channel
28) will provide extensive
coverage, with an emphasis on
team sports featuring the U.S., such as basketball and
women’s soccer.
MSNBC (HD channel 513 /112 digital) will air up to
18 medal rounds and 20 different Olympic sports.
CNBC (HD channel 512 / digital channel 113) will carry
73 hours of boxing coverage, and Bravo (HD channel
541/digital channel 66) will become the home of
Olympic tennis, with 56 hours of coverage.
Just a few of the many USA highlights this year will
be Michael Phelps and the rest of the swim team,
Alex Morgan with soccer and Nastia Liukin with
the gymnastics squad. Add in Usain Bolt in track
sprints and other exciting events like volleyball and
basketball and 2012 has the makings for a historic
Olympiad.
The Weather Channel Premieres
New Series Hurricane Hunters in
July 2012
The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) announced
today it has greenlit “Hurricane Hunters,” a new
character-driven documentary series revealing
the high-stakes world of pilots who fly planes into
hurricanes to gather meteorological data from the
eye of the storm. The show tracks their lives and
dangerous missions during the height of hurricane
season. Produced by Christian D’Andrea, Aleco
Bravo, Rich Battista, and High Noon Entertainment,
the series is comprised of four 30-minute episodes
and will premiere in July 2012. “Hurricane Hunters”
follows the Air Force’s 53rd Weather Reconnaissance
Squadron based in Biloxi, MS, whose mission is to fly
planes into hurricanes to better understand them
and gather key meteorological data that can only be
captured by flying into the eye of the storm.
Off-Road and Offline
Google Maps is introducing Steet View Trekker as
a way to go off-road into places where traditional
Street View cars cannot, meaning you will soon be
able to explore ski slopes, canyons and more. All the
gear necessary for Google staff to photograph the
spots only accessible by foot fits into a backpack.
Google Maps is also going to launch offline maps for
Android in the next few weeks. This means you will
be able to use Google Maps even if you are in a spot
that lacks Internet connectivity. All you need to do is
select the regions you need to explore while online
and download them for future reference.
Seniors Are Using Internet and Digital Gadgets More
According to a study performed by PEW Research Center, seniors ages 65 and older are less likely to own digital devices
than other age groups. However, the senior population is experiencing a lot of growth in the use of internet and digital
devices. The survey found that 69% of adults 65 and older have a cell phone, up from 57% in May 2010. Smartphone
ownership is still quite low with one in ten adults ages 65 and over stating that they own a feature rich phone. Increases in
owning and using e-book readers have grown faster with 11% of the seniors surveyed saying they own one, compared to
just 3% in 2010. Owning a Tablet has increased to 8% of seniors having them, up from 1% in 2010. For more demographics
of smartphone owners, see “Nearly half of American adults are smartphone owners,” by Aaron Smith: http://pewinternet.
